I just emailed my POI who said that she's sure the adcom will reach out soon.
-
Did it: I just gave in and emailed a POI from one of my remaining schools. I'm praying for an acceptance and a good offer.
-
Today was the first time that Stanford has emailed me, and the email included a pdf of a nicely worded rejection. Oh well.
-
That's unfortunate. Hopefully Notre Dame is a good fit.

Vacation from my work. Just booked the tickets a few hours ago. Hopefully I can enjoy myself and not run to the nearest cyber cafe any chance I get. I'm going to enjoy myself, I'm going to enjoy myself, I'm going to enjoy myself.

We have definitely entered the "Waitlist Zone" and I'm afraid that it will last in perpetuity (or mercifully end on April 15).

I emailed Yale yesterday and a professor in the department forwarded my email to the chair, but I haven't received a response yet. The positive response from your POI is great news though! I haven't contacted my POI there and I'm afraid to bother her at this point. Maybe I should inquire. I think news will come soon though.

Last night (after being rejected by Berkeley), I dreamed that Stanford had excepted me. The funny thing was, I couldn't find the strength to wake up. My subconscious was arguing with reality, and I knew that I had not received any notification from Stanford of an acceptance, let alone any interest, but I couldn't move my body. My subconscious wanted me to enjoy the dream. Annnnnnnnd now its Thursday! Sigh.

Me too. There will be a flurry of decisions now that March is almost upon us. This agony will soon end.

Write ETS and launch a formal complaint with their complaint department. I've struggled to get my refund for a missed GRE (due to circumstances out of my control), but ETS finally relented. It's doable, but it will take some effort. I'm terribly sorry about that unfortunate situation. Get your money back from ETS!

Just inquired about UC Irvine. I'm on the waitlist, but the department is not sure how far down it will reach into the waitlist, if at all. But there's still hope!

Hopefully you will all laugh at this: As a current Peace Corps volunteer, most graduate schools offered me application fee waivers to apply. This allowed me to dramatically cut down application costs, and I thought it prudent to apply to a wide range of programs for medical anthropology (12). I was enamored with all of the programs to which I applied, including Northwestern's department. Unfortunately, I named a non-tenure-track faculty member as a POI, one who is not responsible for mentoring students. She was the only POI I listed. This demonstration of myopic decision-making may have been due to some residual malaria acutely affecting my brain at the moment I was deciding with whom I could work, or maybe the lack of electricity in this remote village prevented me from looking myself in the mirror and reminding myself that I am not more powerful than the admissions committee. To be honest, this f@*# up just made me smile and I hope it cracked you up too! Northwestern was a reach, but damn, that was a boneheaded move! Also, just received word from Duke POI that I didn't make the shortlist. 160 applicants for 4 spots.
-
My thoughts exactly! This just inspired me to email POI's at two programs that have me waiting!
-
Looking at my list of schools, I realize that they are ALL reaches. -___-

Website won't let me quote! Trogdor Burninator, you're one of the Northwestern interviewees! Good luck! I was a UVA interviewee in January and I'm waiting on a decision. Duke and WashU were long shots, and Berkeley med anthro was a huge reach! I've got one offer in the bag though, but I'm hoping I get lucky. Congrats on UMich!

27 now. Will be 28 when my program starts in the Fall.

To the WashU admit who stated on the results board "All the results are in," what did you mean/who told you? Does that mean that the selection process is over?
-
Meglet, I'm hoping that result was for evo. I've been waiting for Duke results as well. One more week in February -____-

I'm new to posting and I hope to use other forums on this site in the future. I'm down for getting together at the November conference! It's a wonderful idea and I appreciate the invite!

Your application is currently being evaluated.
PurpleZephyr replied to Pych's topic in Waiting it Out
Not necessarily. The case may be that the application is being carefully reviewed along with a few others. Contacting the department is not a bad move. You may be told that a decision on your application has not yet been reached, you may have been waitlisted, or you may have been rejected. All of these departments operate on their own schedules in their own idiosyncratic fashions; comparing what UPenn/UCB do with what Arizona does is problematic. One should not lose hope because a status has not yet changed in February. Its still early, and not receiving a rejection letter means you are still in the running. -
How soon do you hear from schools after an interview?
PurpleZephyr replied to nonickname's topic in Waiting it Out
I had a good interview in late January, so I'm hoping to get a decision soon! Fingers crossed for today -
Thank you for the info. I'm definitely narrowing my list of possible programs down, rejection by rejection. It would be nice to get rejections when the programs have decided, instead of getting them all in one big heap in March/April.
-
Has Yale decided that all its acceptances will come from the January interviewees? Is Irvine done with acceptances? There were a lot of offers already on the results board. I'm trying to get my list down to the programs where I still have a chance so I can relax.

Why Do Schools Take So Long to Send Rejections?
PurpleZephyr replied to TXInstrument11's topic in Waiting it Out
Yup, I'm with Aziz. This process is ridiculous.
