  1. In terms of techniques to calm your nerves I would recommend power posing before the interview (in private of course). Below is the link to a TED talk that explains the concept and the science behind it http://www.ted.com/talks/amy_cuddy_your_body_language_shapes_who_you_are?language=en
  2. I also felt uncomfortable giving mi SSN (or SIN which is the Canadian version) 1. In Canada it is not mandatory to provide your SIN for an application (job or school). I would look for the US equivalent of this page http://www.servicecanada.gc.ca/eng/sin/protect/provide.shtml 2. I just left if blank. 3. I don't think it hurts your chances- I was accepted at 3 schools
  3. Thank you everyone!! I really appreciate it!
  4. This is my first year of graduate school (masters in psychology) and I was assigned to a course that requires teaching tutorials every week. I took a prep course from my university that covered the basics- how to plan and deliver a lecture, marking etc., but I am still nervous (I haven't had much experience with public speaking let alone teaching a class). I also look very young, and I am concerned that students won't take me seriously. Does anyone have any advice? For example, how do you get everyone to shush so you can start, or deal with students that talk amongst themselves? Thank you!
  5. Just to add to what healthypsych said, here are the links to the essay topics. It seems like a very long list, however, most of the topics are repeated with different instructions. https://www.ets.org/gre/revised_general/prepare/analytical_writing/issue/pool https://www.ets.org/gre/revised_general/prepare/analytical_writing/argument/pool
  6. I haven't heard of anyone doing that. If it is really really bugging you maybe call and ask, just as a general question (I would suggest calling and not e-mailing). Better to try now than once you are in the program (because then it would be extremely difficult to switch, many universities don't allow it)
  7. I think it depends on the university and the professor. My current supervisor has a slight preference towards students from other universities, another professor who I volunteer for wants someone he has already worked with/knows From what I have seen (applying in the US and Canada) it seems that stronger programs tend to prefer students from other universities - but that is just my experience
  8. And if anyone is wondering about Western, offers were sent out the week after interview day (Feb 6th). The director said that they send out about 10 offers, expecting that 5-6 will accept (they don't really like doing waiting lists).
