  1. Yeah shoveling is going to be pretty awful Thanks coffee cup! I'll definitely let you know if I have any questions
  2. I am! I'm not sure I'm ready for the cold though...African or European swallow?
  3. It's acceptable. I've emailed several schools about my status. Some were still being reviewed or didn't send out official notices yet, but most of the replies informed me the "unofficial" decision.
  4. Personally, I don't see it as being awkward, but maybe someone else would be willing to weigh in on this? Would it be acceptable as a waitlisted applicant to try to set up a visit?
  5. Sorry to hear about the English requirement! I got an offer from Buffalo and am leaning toward attending because my interests line up with their program. I will probably make my decision after visiting at the end of the month.
  6. I am sure there is some way you can still set up a visit, especially since you are seriously considering this University. That way if you do get accepted, you'll be more prepared to make the decision.
  7. My parents are coming with me to an admitted students visit, but while I am at departmental events, they will be touring the area and the school. I am SO happy they didn't expect to go to the talks, lunches, etc. that will be taking place, because I agree with your thoughts about them being a stakeholder. They're coming along to be supportive and see the area that could potentially be my new home, but also taking a backseat. I think it would be kind of weird if I brought them around with me to meet other graduate students and professors.
  8. I agree, he sounds philosophical to me as well. I once had a philosophy professor that did not even consider himself a philosopher. He was very intelligent and interested in philosophy, but just did not see himself as being one. Rather he was just a human wondering about the world and trying to share that with others. In my mind, that kind of made him the most philosophical person I've ever met. However, just having a PhD doesn't cut you to be a philosopher. I definitely think it goes beyond that.
