I actually got a mortgage with my partner who works full-time this past year. I initially believed the same as you - but they declared that my SSHRC and OGS were not considered income. I was able to use my part-time job (I worked a lot before getting the house so they could see I was on the incline with my income) and TA income. Obviously without the ability to use an external scholarship, the approved mortgage is lower, but we found something that was good for us! Good luck!

Hey everyone, I am quite confused as well with the confirmation of acceptance as well. I did not receive a direct deposit form. I received a paper with the award amount, a bunch of links (conditions to the awards), and a document about the selection process. Can this be found online? I applied directly through my university if that changes things? Thanks!

The letter is 7 by 10 inches.

The SSHRC fellowship is 20,000 for either 1, 2, 3 or 4 years. The CGS is 35,000 for 3 years.

Just following up with my message. I received the mail today in Kingston ON. I got a score of 18.15/20 and a CGS! I hope you all receive good news as well!

Hey everyone! I emailed my grad secretary regarding my status. She told me I have been successful. I'm not sure which award I have received yet though. But just to point out for those waiting, I did not have any publications, only conferences (only one being peer reviewed). Therefore, it IS possible to get an award without pubs. I have to give most of the credit to my references, and a reformatted proposal from last year. I was in committee 3. Good luck to all still waiting; and congrats to those who have received awards!

Hi grad_sugar, I think you have some solid work here, but I feel like your justification for liking mathematics since childhood is a little cliche. For me, your second paragraph (discussing your motivation to pursue further education) is stronger than the first paragraph. Admissions are probably used to seeing individuals write about how they loved their area of interest since childhood, so it might help to think of some other way to begin your SOP. The section on research experience is a little choppy. I completely agree with StudyStar. You need to try and find an effective way to transition between sentences and paragraphs. Finally, for teaching and leadership, I feel that you should mention more specific examples that exemplify your skills. For example, WHY did students find your teaching techniques motivating? Hi Sri, I can't speak 100% about psychology, but I did complete an MA in criminology and can tell you how my two years went. My schedule sounds a lot different than your sister's. For my first year, I had to complete two courses each semester so two of the days were spent at the university for at least three hours. I would then go to my office or home to read for next week's classes. I also TA'ed for a course that had seminars so I instructed third year students in a methods class twice a week as well. Once a week, I had office hours and I made sure to schedule those for one of the days that I had classes, so I could more or less hit two birds with one stone. All in all, I probably spent 4 days on campus every week, with a lot of course preparation happening at home or in the library. For my second year, I really was not on campus that much (only to meet with my advisor regarding my thesis and for my stats class in the winter semester). Other than that, most of the time I worked on my own to finish up my thesis project. A lot of the time, however, I went to campus if I needed to focus, or get away from the comforts of my own home, where I would sometimes procrastinate... damn you netflix. I know you said you are in clinical psychology, so I'm assuming you will have lab time as well (which I didn't have)? Hope this helps a little! -A

I was smiling the whole time reading everyone's acceptance stories. Congrats to all! One morning when I woke up, I emailed the grad secretary at the school because my status on the application website said "decision made". I kindly asked if I was still in the running to be accepted. I'm sitting on my bed and she emails back 2 minutes later. All I could see was "happy" ... "inform".... "accepted" and "I was going to email you this afternoon, but you beat me to it". I started crying and then decided to read the email again just in case I misread it (LOL). Nope! Read it again and continued to cry. Called my mom right away to inform her of my PhD acceptance and we had a very positive and emotional chat!

I was 22 when I started my Masters, and I'll be 24 when I start my PhD in the fall!

In my personal experience, I submitted a longer writing sample around 25 pages with the required length being 20, and got accepted, but this may be different for each school. You might want to email each school and ask if this is acceptable.
