I didn't get in anywhere last year - I was rejected from all 7 schools in late March/early-mid April. I'm currently a second round applicant and haven't heard anything yet, so it's a little scary!

3.35 overall/3.7ish slp GPA. 151V/149Q/3.5AW. Not exactly the strongest stats, but I went through a bit of a rough patch during my sophomore and junior years that I explained in my essay.

I applied to Emerson last year, and I received my rejection quite a while after people heard about their interviews/acceptances. That actually happened with the majority of my schools; I applied to all of my schools in December, and I didn't hear from the majority of them until late March/April... and they were all rejections. It was really the most anxiety-ridden and annoying time of my entire life. I really do wish you the best of luck, and you have a better few months than I did!

Waiting for Monmouth also! Good luck!

Really? I was under the impression that all decisions were supposed to be made after April 15th. I'm kind of annoyed, though. Like I've already been denied from 5/6 schools, I just want my last denial 100% finalized so I can start to make moves on my plan B lol

What do you mean, they call you if it's an acceptance? I just checked it out now because I'm very anxious about my Monmouth application as well, but I believe they say to call the admissions office if you have any questions about it, not to actually find out if you were accepted or not. -
I'm taking 285 and 450 now! For both classes I just have timed online quizzes, but there are definitely more assignments than tests.

Stilllllll haven't heard anything and I'm starting to freak out a little lol

graceSLP -- which classes are you taking through Longwood?? I'm taking two classes online with them also! graceSLP explained it very well; both my professors put up powerpoint slides, there's no voice over or anything. One of my professors is SUPER organized, and there is no question to how the course is running. He is also extremely quick with getting back to us, and he even put up his cell phone number so we can text him just in case we're having problems with the assignments or the program he had us download for the course. The class is honestly not easy, but I really think the professor is doing a great job of having us learn the information. My other professor is... okay. There has been quite a bit of confusion with assignments and due dates, and it can become pretty stressful at times. On the other hand, he is extremely open to constructive criticism (even made a discussion board asking for tips to help him help us), and he is very nice and understanding, so that makes the confusion less sucky. I think it might be his first online class, because I know some of the assignments are actually made for a regular class, but he's making it work the best he can. Overall, I think both professors are doing a really good job of having us learn the material, and the courseload is not too much or too minimal.

People have been hearing from these schools for months...

That's great news and great advice, thank you! So glad to hear you were accepted -
Hey guys! There are two schools that I've applied to that I still haven't heard from, but people have been hearing from them for months already (specifically Old Dominion University and University of Virginia) and I know the applications go in "waves/tiers", but I'm starting to get a little concerned. Two of my other schools were nice enough to let us know that their decisions would be sent later rather than sooner so I'm a little less concerned about them, but even after calling UVA weeks ago I still haven't heard anything, and April 15th is approaching quickly. (If we're being real here - don't sugarcoat this...) does this mean that I'm getting rejected from the schools and they just haven't notified me yet? I know some schools (so kindly) leave many of their rejections until the end, and I'm starting to get annoyed, concerned, and every other emotion under the sun. I also know they both received my application in the end of November through e-mails/the portal, so that isn't the problem. Thanks in advance!

Hey! I've called a few of my schools over the past few weeks and have gotten different responses from each. One of the schools was super nice and said "we're currently reviewing applications and will be sending out decisions late March/early April". The second school I called wasn't as nice about it, but I have a feeling they have been getting a lot more phone calls than the first school, since they've been sending decisions out since February and some of us applicants are starting to get antsy! She just said "we're going through applications now, keep checking your portal every day". I still haven't heard from four of my schools though, which is just absolute torture lol

Online Prerequisites (not a full postbacc)
j_rae replied to slpPLS's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Hi! I'm currently taking classes through Longwood. I don't remember prices, I know I picked Longwood over Utah because it was definitely cheaper. I'm taking two classes online with them (Speech Science and Language Development Across the Lifespan) along with 4 classes at my home university (Stony Brook). To be completely honest, it is a LOT of work doing the two online plus the four classes (plus work plus training plus everything else LOL), but I think I'm able to pull it off as well as I am because my last semester at SBU is not as rigorous as the rest of my semesters here have been. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it depends what else you have on your plate. If you're going to be working full time hours on your year off or keeping yourself very busy, then yea, I might split them up to be safe. But if you're going to only be working part time and just doing a little relaxing on your year off, then yea, do the two together and get them over with; maybe work more during the semester you're not taking any classes. They are manageable and they're nice because you can do the work on your own time (like wake up at 8 am on a Sunday to hand things in at noon because you didn't want to finish it the day before.. :x). But if you have any other questions about that you can just PM me about it As I'm sure you know, the SLP pre-req courses are nice because the majority of them overlap at least a little bit. The classes I'm taking are definitely not classes I have taken before, but I've learned a good amount of the material in other classes (for example, a lot of what I'm learning now in Speech Science bounces off of what I've learned in both Phonetics and A&P of Speech and Hearing, but it is definitely a necessary class because I'm learning a lot of new things). But my situation could be different because my college does not offer an undergraduate program in CSD, only a few of the courses. I hope this helped! -
Granted I haven't even gotten into a program yet, but that's actually something I thought of. I'm the type of person that gets tired of people VERY quickly, and I feel that if I live with a person AND have to spend every day with them in classes as well, there is a very good chance I will end up hating them for some petty reason. Living with someone in another program also increases the chance of having different schedules (so you're not home at all the same times) and broadens your horizons for social interaction, since their friends will most likely be in their program... so you get to meet/hang out with their friends also (if you guys get along, of course). Those are just my thoughts though

Congratulations!! I applied to ODU but still haven't heard anything from them yet. Hoping soon, though!
-
YES. Please. Please.
-
I actually called them today because I applied back in November and still have not heard anything (and UVA is my number one school) and the woman just said that they're still going through applications, to keep checking the portal, and that she didn't have any dates that she could give me :/

Statement of Purpose hooks, help please!
j_rae replied to Liza_Ann_92's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
definitely 2. overcoming adversity, experience with SLPs, understanding what your clients will be going through... etc. they'll definitely love that. -
I never, ever thought I'd say this, but THANK GOD IT'S MONDAY. This has been the longest weekend EVER. Here's to hoping we all get some good news asap!
-
To add on to what MangoSmoothie said, I'm taking online pre-reqs through Longwood University. I'm currently taking speech science and language development across the lifespan, but they have many other options as well, so I'm almost positive they have Audiology also!
-
YES. I've only heard from one school out of six (rejection, but expected), and I finished my applications in early December! I've been checking my e-mail literally every chance I get... especially since people are hearing from the majority of my schools already.
