  1. Would also like to know how current grad students feel about Lubbock and said questions. Specifically, areas to live that are close to campus but aren't flooded by frat parties.
  2. I am facing a very similar situation here. Any advice would be appreciated from anyone else. I was notified a few days ago by my POI from PhD program at school A that the faculty had their official meeting about applicants and that it was decided then (officially, before interview weekend) that I will receive an offer for admission. The research match is almost perfect, but still have not heard anything regarding an interview from school B (and have learned from the threads here that they have not yet even sent interview invitations out). They are both very solid choices and a great fit for me. My POI from school A asked me to let her know when I was sure of my decision (yes or no) because she has other students on a waitlist. I told her how happy I was about the acceptance etc. and that her program was also my top choice, but I still had another application whose decision i was waiting on (for formality's sake). How long should I wait before accepting school A's offer? I feel like I should accept as soon as possible because I was accepted so quickly, but I'm worried that school B will send an invitation for and interview (based on a phone interview I've already had with my POI) and I'll miss out on that opportunity altogether.
  3. Hi, I need some advice about whether I handled this situation poorly. Without revealing too much sensitive information, I was notified a few days ago by my POI from PhD program at school A that the faculty had their official meeting about applicants and that it was decided then that I will receive an offer for admission. Does that come off as disrespectful? I don't know the etiquette for this type of situation and if it was rude, how can I redeem myself? I'm having a minor meltdown as other people have told me that I should not have said anything about another school and I came off as ungrateful. HELP.
  4. Do you mind PMing me the lab you work in? Just curious!
  5. Thank you for doing this! Great idea!

  7. Hi, congrats! Do you happen to know if the other departments (social&personality in particular) sent out invitations the same time as clinical? The website says " Each program evaluates applications and candidates may be invited to interview (Clinical) or visit" That leads me to believe only clinical holds interviews?
  8. Hi there, I have a scheduled phone meeting tomorrow afternoon with a potential advisor for a social psychology PhD program. Can anyone please offer advice on how to: 1. Direct the conversation. Should I be asking questions conversationally? Should I be asking about the direction of her future research? Should I let her drive the entire conversation? I want to be engaging, but also send the message I'm motivated and have the potential for research in graduate school. 2: I already know that she want to talk about my summer internship with her former graduate advisor. Their respective areas of research are very similar, but other than that internship and one other poster I presented as an undergrad, all of my other research experience (two years undergrad and three years working at a university/ research institution) aren't really related to social psychology. Has anyone else gotten admitted into a program of specific interest while having a wide range of other experience? How do I convey that although my CV doesn't show it, I really want to pursue SOCIAL psychology. 3. Any other tips to prepare for this meeting? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!
