  1. Well I have arrived at UCR and started some summer research early in the Botany dept. Luckily I have a sublet set up through September. But I thought I would through this out here and see if anyone is interested in going in on finding a place for the fall. There seems to be a good amount of nice places around the campus (houses w/ garages and yards). The average cost is between 500-700 per room for places larger than 1 bedroom. So if any cool folks are looking for a place to settle into, let me know. Cheers.
  2. 2.7 uGPA and middling GRE's. I got my BA years ago and worked in various fields. When I decided to go back to school I researched the programs I was interested in (Botany and Ecology) saw what courses they required and the spent the last two years in community college. Over that time I got much better grades, formed great relationships with my professors and worked in many internships. Because of all that I got very good LOR and just was accepted to UC Riverside with a full fellowship. You can overcome a low GPA, but you need to put in the work.
  3. I'm also going to piggyback on this thread. I accepted the offer to UCR for Plant Biology. It looks like I found a sublet for the Summer, but will be looking for new housing in the fall, and would much rather live near to campus rather than on it.
  4. Hey mobilehobo, did you happen to go to UCR's recruitment day? I'm also heading there this fall (Plant Biology) and during all the meet-and-greets and made some contacts with current grad students. Basically I asked around about places to live and immediatly found a sublet (I'm actually starting in July, so I needed a place early). All the other students were extra kind, so if you have any contacts down there I would just ask around. From what I understand rent is pretty cheap (though I am from the Bay Area) and it's DEFINITELY better not to have campus housing. Good Luck!
