  1. You can find employment with the Unified School District of an area. Also, you can find employment at city utility companies and other places like that.
  2. Thank you both! One of the MSW programs I have been admitted to also has a social work PhD program so perhaps I could help out on some of their ongoing research projects.
  3. Hi everyone, If you applied to Clinical psych masters programs could you list which programs you applied to, or list any programs that you know of. I applied to several MSW programs with clinical focus but I foresee that I might want to go the PhD in Psych route in the future and a MS in clinical psych might help set me up better for that. I am interested in clinical work and applying counseling, diagnostic, and therapeutic methodologies but I'm not opposed to spending longer in academia and doing research for a while as well. I applied to MSW programs because they seem pretty versatile for clinical work but now I can't help but wonder if a clinical psych MS would be more beneficial for pursuing a PhD.
  4. I thought about applying to the program but I couldn't find out much about it. Are you there now? How is it?
  5. Congrats!! When did you submit your application? Also, which program did you apply to?
  6. Also waiting to hear back! Good luck to everyone who applied!
  7. Well, I'm wondering if there is an assortment of field placement options available in the area? Also wondering if there are sites that could contribute towards accruing LCSW hours post graduation? I'd like to know your/their opinion on the quality of the program? Did you/your friends gain experience in the field working with the native american population? If so, what was their experience like? Lastly, did you like Humboldt or feel like the rural nature of the area would be too limiting for a social worker?
  8. That is unfortunate about the single summer course warrenting a transcript. Did your university transcript not list that course as a transfer credit? Mine did and one of the programs requiring transcripts from all colleges/univ attended waived my community college transcript because the summer course transfer credit was listed on my bachelor transcript from university. I'm sure you know this but the quickest way for them to receive your transcript would be electronically if that is an option or for you to pick it up from c college and overnight it to their department. The application process is so intricate and it is a shame that insignificant factors such as 1 course can affect your application. Hopefully it will all work out, just remember that when one door closes another opens. Good luck!
  9. Hey everyone, I know there is a significant difference in coursework/training/internships between these two programs (MSW clinical focus UCF vs. Mental Health Counseling UCF)... it's hard to decide which one I would rather pursue. Looking for any advice or just thoughts on comparing the two programs and prospects post-graduation. https://www.graduatecatalog.ucf.edu/programs/program.aspx?id=1136&tid=278 https://www.graduatecatalog.ucf.edu/programs/program.aspx?id=1436&tid=3605&track=Orlando Full-Time Thanks!

  11. Anyone know about Roosevelt University's program?
  12. Good luck with admissions everyone! I didn't see anyone post about Humboldt State University. Does anyone know if their MSW program is as reputable as the other california state schools mentioned in this thread?
  13. Hey everyone, Do you know if will be acceptable to submit my statement of purpose separately (just in department application) after I have submitted my CSUmentor app. On the CSUmentor app it tells me I can type in "Statement sent directly to the department", but I have not submitted the statement to department yet. I will be submitting the statement after I have submitted the CSUmentor application (~1week later). It seems that it should be ok, just checking to hear if any of you have encountered the same thing.
  14. Thank you for the replies! U SC's MSW program sounds like a great opportunity, especially with a graduate assistantship. Massachusetts also sounds like a nice place to work.
  15. Hi, I have a few questions. I am looking into applying to MSW programs for Fall 2017. I currently reside in FL (Orlando specifically). I have lived in Orlando all my life and am eager to spread my roots. I see graduate school + fieldwork/observation hours/licensure as a large commitment. Ideally, I would like to attend graduate school in another state and give myself time to grow in a new area/setting. However, the tuition price difference between in state and out of state seems rather significant and I am having a difficult time weighing this decision. States I am interested in are Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, California and New York. I have combed through various websites listing "most affordable MSW" programs, but I would like any recommendations that you could offer. Any programs that you know of that are relatively inexpensive for out of state tuition? Is it an important factor to get your MSW in an area that you would want to live in post graduation? Finally, are there any states that value or utilize the social work profession differently than other states? Thanks for any help! Wes
  16. Thanks a lot for that reply stochastic! I just checked out edge.org, very interesting. Just read How the Brain is Computing the Mind article by Ed Boyden. I like the way he writes, his fluid approach to langauge actually reminded me of some early Ram Dass transcribed lectures haha. I am looking for a cross between informative and entertaining. I graduated with a bachelor's in Psychology a few years back and I am looking for some engaging books to "catch me up to speed". I'll start digging into those names you listed and then maybe work my way into some well written textbooks. Free online courses would probably be good also.
  17. Hello, Does anyone have any book recommendations that are interesting and informative with regards to brain, neuropsychology, disorders and behavior? I would love to see what current books people recommend, something that could catch me up to speed on neuropsych and also provide a good read! Thanks!
  18. Thanks for the response beyond! Better late than never! I appreciate you highlighting those issues. I am going to try to reach out and get a letter of rec from one of the research lab heads. Maybe I will be successful this time. As for the 3 year gap, I have been a teaching assistant at charter school for students with ASD, and then subbing for 2 years in regular and exceptional education classrooms. Maybe the ESE experience will help somewhat. I totally agree about going for MA first. I am looking at getting either 1 year MA or 2 year research masters in Netherlands or germany and then applying for phd programs. I feel I will be much more equipped to know what programs I am interested in and will be a much stronger candidate after that. There are several 1 year MA in netherlands at reputable schools , I know the 2 year research masters programs are more competitive and look better but I like the idea of 1 year MA then going into PhD. I see you are applying for Clinical PhD programs.... I really wish you the best!! One of the schools (Univ of central florida) is where I got my B.S. If you have any questions about Orlando or the school or anything, don't hesitate to ask me! Wes
  19. Hi, So it has been 3 years since I have graduated but I feel I now know which direction I would like to go in with regards to Psychology. I would like to join a clinical psych PHD (or MA) program. I am wondering what all I can do to increase my strength of an applicant for the fall 2016 admissions. I had 2 semesters I/O research assistant experience during my junior year of of college, however I have come out of touch with the research heads and do not have any letters of rec from that experience (aside from possible other research assistants who now have there MA or are working on PHD, but I know that is not strong enough). There is one professor I can get a letter of rec from because I was a TA and took 3 of his classes. My GRE score is alright, but my quant could definitely use improvement.... but I really dread retaking the GRE. I took it 3 years ago. So with the amount of time given, what do you think I could do to strengthen my chance as an applicant? I am looking into applying to current research labs at my old university as a RA but I do not know if they will take me now that I have graduated. Thanks for reading this and possibly contributing! Wes
  20. hey all, I got accepted to the 1 year M.Sc. Psych: Specialization - Organizational Psychology at Erasmus University Rotterdam. I'm wondering, do you think I will be able to gain entry into applied I/O jobs back home (USA) I pursue this degree? The program at Erasmus University Rotterdam seems pretty new. The school itself seems like a pretty good school in relation to the Netherlands and internationally. Here is some info about the program http://www.eur.nl/fileadmin/ASSETS/masters/BR_M_FSW_MSc_Psychology_UK_14-15.pdf http://www.eur.nl/fsw/psychologie/research/organizationalpsychology/ And here is some info about the program coordinator and professor (Arnold Bakker) http://www.profarnoldbakker.com/ https://eur.academia.edu/ArnoldBakker Thank you in advance for taking the time to look into my question. Kind regards, Wes
  21. Well, I cannot really answer which path is best for you. However, it appears you have a lot of field related experience to go along with I/O. So if you are interested in that kind of stuff it seems like you have a good start on that career path. Goodluck with whatever you choose! I am in a very similar predicament.
  22. Thanks Chubber! Neuro is what I am leaning towards at the moment. It might not come as easy to me (probably not as strong in bio as in social related topics) but I'm sure I will adapt. Seems like the faculty in neuro are focused on some pretty interesting areas in regards to psychopharmacology too.
  23. Well, I received my admission into a European (fully taught in English) Master of Science in Psychology program with a specialization in Neuropsychology. I am contemplating switching my specialization into Health and Social Psychology. The program is one year and the second semester consists of a research internship and writing a thesis. I'm wondering, which of these two specializations would be more well received in the US as far as finding jobs and also for applying to PhD programs for fall 2016 (PhD program in Clinical Psych most likely)? Would having either of these degrees alone open up any career doors in the US?
  24. I've also been curious about the transfer between US and UK in regards to clinical experience/education. I will look into the schools you listed. One school in London I ran across was this one, http://www.derby.ac.uk/courses/postgraduate/integrative-counselling-psychotherapy-msc/ Not sure how it compares to the ones you listed.
