Barber reacted to Tjarrells in MFA 2016 All Art ADMISSIONS freak-out forum!!!!!!!!
I understand that money isn't everything, but the difference in funding between Tyler and OSU is very sizable. Tyler wants me to pay $15000 for the first year and is offering a $7500 a year stipend. OSU is offering $15000 plus a full tuition scholarship for all three years. I know Tyler's reputation but their stipend isn't even enough to pay living expenses. I would need supplemental income. I've told Tyler what OSU is offering. If they can give me a full TA that's where I'll go. Otherwise I am doing OSU. It's a fine program with a lot of funding opportunities. I really appreciate your input though. I agree, sometimes you should take on the loans for great program. For me though, the risks outweigh the gain in this instance.

Thanks guys, My professors have been pushing for OSU also. I'm going out to Columbus this weekend to see the place before making the final call but I think OSU offers the most. I mean, you can make great work anywhere as long as you put your heart into it. I feel like if I have to worry about putting money together and paying bills all the time at Tyler it will ultimately affect the quality of the work I'm making. I just want to spend my grad school years being selfish and totally focusing on my work.

Holy crap just got a full ride to the University of Delaware plus a stipend. I'm still mildly in shock.

Barber got a reaction from altiplano in 2016 MFA Interview Thread
Man I'm really glad this thread popped up because I didn't want to clog the freak out thread with this (even though I am freaking out about it).
Okay, this question may be mildly stupid, but I have a burning need to know, WHAT DO I WEAR TO THE INTERVIEW??? Please don't think I'm some sort of special for asking, but I have no professional art world background and honest to god wear a suit everyday (I'm a FED), but that somehow seems kinda inappropriate to wear to an MFA interview? Since so far both of my interviews are in person, I don't want to look like either the Men in Black nor ridiculously under dressed.
So basically, full suit or no?

Hey there everyone wondering about Alfred. I received two emails from Alfred today - one was an interview invitation asking me to choose a time for a Skype interview with the faculty committee on either Feb 23 or 24. The subject line of this email was "Alfred University MFA Skype Interview" or something of the sort. The second email was the general one about the campus visit, which I think all applicants may have received. I applied to Sculpture/Dimensional Studies and am not sure if interview emails have been sent to other departments (or even if all Sculpture interviews have been sent). Good luck all, fingers crossed for everyone!

Yes I did, but I wasn't sure if it was a general tour type thing, or an actual interview request. I emailed admissions just to check, but haven't heard yet.

Best interview advice I ever received — "Just Don't Suck".
Your interview invitation means your work with your statement are strong enough for their program.
Congratulations!!!!!!

I was wondering this yesterday. I may feel a bit awkward showing up empty handed, but I'm interviewing for Sound so I'm not sure what I'd bring anyway . . .
Also it seems from years previous they send an email w/more details to those with scheduled interviews 1-2 weeks before the interview. So we'll see.

When you receive a notification that you are being invited for an interview, the school will provide details about what you should bring. Painting and Photography students are sometimes asked to bring prints or samples of artworks. Sculpture students might be asked to being small pieces, or samples of materials - you are definitely not expected to get on a plane with large artworks that don't travel easily!
However, it might be a good idea to make some larger prints of your documentation and bring them in a simple plastic portfolio. That way your interviewers have something to easily flip through while they talk to you and don't have to fuss with slideroom or digital images.
