  1. I'm wondering if St. John's would at least have to give the people they've accepted two weeks to decide before the April 15 deadline. So I guess the latest would be April 1.

EdFind shows that they typically have 134 admissions offers but where are all these people lol. I've barely seen any posting for St. Johns on the results page for this year and previous years too.  I wonder if they accept most of their undergrad students. I missed their open house so I don't know much besides what is posted on their website. My colleague graduated from their SLP department a few years ago and she said St. John's notification came very late and she had to interview.

My portal for LIU Brooklyn still hasn't changed :(

My portal didn't change either but today I received an acceptance letter in the mail from LIU Brooklyn.

Still waiting on St. John's and Adelphi. I checked the GradCafe results page to try and gauge previous years but it seems like St. John's has a lot less results compared to Adelphi.

When I called Adelphi last week I was told my application had not been reviewed yet.

Hi, I attended as well. They said each cohort has 25 students so there's 50 full time students in total and I think 25 in Sunday program and 25 Online. So in total, 100 students are accepted.

Yes, one cohort would be start clinicals the first semester as in fall 2017. The professor said that some people feel overwhelmed and will ask to switch cohorts at times. It seems like they'll try to work with you if that is what you want since some want to start right away and are willing to switch.

They didn't mention when classes would start so I'm not sure about that.

    Hope this helps!

I didn't know Adelphi had an online cohort. I applied for the Sunday program but I would have considered the online program. When I attended the Manhattan open house Dr. Goldfarb only mentioned the Garden City and Manhattan cohorts. Is it on their website and maybe I overlooked it?

    I applied to:

    • Hunter College
    • Brooklyn College
    • LIU Brooklyn
    • St. John's
    • NYU
    • Columbia
    • Hofstra
    • Adelphi
    • Touro College

On the results page it shows that two people were accepted to St. John's and received notification today. According to them they submitted their applications toward the end of January. Did you apply to the Adelphi Manhattan campus or Garden City? I haven't seen anyone post results for the Manhattan center just yet.

I'm waiting to hear back from St. John's, Adelphi (Manhattan Campus) and LIU Brooklyn.

Ah! Sorry I am seeing this late. But yes my deadline was pushed all the way until April 28. I called multiple times and explained that I wanted to make a decision only after knowing all of my options and I didn't want to hold someone else's spot if I didn't commit. Hope it worked out for you!

WOW April 28th! They only gave me another 2 weeks.

I'm also bummed by what I read in their Intent Letter. I thought this program would be more flexible for working students but The Intent Letter you receive once you have been accepted says that you must be available for clinics/externships (3,4 and 5) from Monday - Friday during normal business hours. It also states these cannot be exclusively done in the evenings or on the weekend.

I didn't know this detail before I applied. When I inquired during the online open house this question was never addressed.

FYI to all those who apply to NYU.

Sorry to but in, but when I was accepted back in December I tried to get them to push back my deadline by 2 weeks and it was denied :( Sorry! Hope that helps.

Thanks for letting me know! Too bad ?

What cohort are you in? Are they making you take some of their prereqs? I feel like their whole acceptance process is kind of confusing..

No not yet, but I have outside majors (cognitive science and language studies) so I know I don't meet all the foundation courses. I think I meet 2 or 3 of them and submitted syllabi but haven't heard back. I have the core courses required by ASHA which should all be approved.

Also, I asked my admissions counselor if she would try to get my commit deadline pushed to the end of April  to wait to hear back from other schools, and she said she would try / it would probably not be an issue! I'll hear back next week, but there may be a way to avoid paying the deposit so soon.

Hi Lacuna, did your admissions advisor push back your deadline? My advisor told me she had to speak to the director Natalie but I still haven't been given an answer and the commit letter is due by this Thursday!

I asked my admissions counselor to move my deadline to April. Thanks for the suggestion! I hope NYU says yes.

Did you receive your official documents from Natalie Galindo? In one of those there were "Foundational Courses" listed but it never explicitly said if these were the classes I was missing. Still waiting to hear back on that.

Yeah, I am for fall. You just lose the money -- not refundable. Thankfully there's not an additional fund if you hold the spot and then ultimately don't go or something. But it is kind of ridiculous. I have the same deadline as you - so strange that they put this pressure knowing that people also are waiting to hear back from other schools. If I could have done it over I would have applied later to hope it would line up with all my other admissions decisions!

Did NYU tell you some of your prereqs do not satisfy their requirement? Kind of a bummer since I wan't to start Masters level classes in September.

I was admitted today and am super excited! I'm curious about the $500 deposit and deadline and am looking for more info. The other schools I applied to will not get back to me until April. Is it possible to submit this payment to hold my spot and ultimately not enroll, and is there a fee if I do that (withdraw after expressing intent to enroll)?

I'm in the same boat as you. Are you admitted for the Fall? I don't know if the $500 is refundable but I doubt it. I think we have to just pay the $500 and forfeit the money if we decide to go somewhere else. My deposit is due by 2/23, which is crazy, since they have given me less than a month to consider the offer. If you find out information about the deposit please let me know.

Do you know anyone else who got in, who has the exact same courses as you? A girl I knew got one prereq that did not satisfy, but we had the same class so she argued it and it turned out she did not need to take out. If you have 23 courses completed, I would be shocked you needed much else. I have my second bachelors from usu, so I only need to take Neuro. I start in may! There is also a FB group now that is very helpful. Maybe ask on there! the link is posted above

Who can I dispute this with? My admissions advisor?

I received my admit letter & Declaration of Intent but it doesn't make it clear what courses I am lacking. It lists four courses and two of which I am certain my prereqs cover. For example, it lists Intro to Audiology and Aural Rehab when I took both as separate classes. I think I will definitely have to take neuro and maybe science of language.

  12. Anyone else been admitted but told some of their pre-reqs don't satisfy? Kind of annoying since I have 23 speech pre-reqs.

Any information from those who are already in the program? How are the classes?

I have been admitted for Fall 2017 and although super excited I am a bit hesitant since it is so expensive (especially if I have to take pre-reqs through NYU) and my previous experience with online learning was more tedious instead of challenging.

    Thanks in advance!

  13. Hi,

I just wanted put it this information out there. LIU in Brooklyn is supposed to have an online cohort for a Master's in SLP. I'm wrapping my Pre Reqs up there and the advsior wants me to spread the word about this opportunity.

It is intended for working professionals who want to work in the NYC public schools, although you are not required to do so. They just received a NYS grant that used to go to the WKU online cohort.

Call the department if you're interested!

  14. This forum has helped me a ton with researching Graduate programs in NY, but I still have very little info on some schools. I would love to start a discussion about these schools.

Adelphi - I'm interested in their Sunday Manhattan campus since it will allow me to continue working during the week. I've read some stuff on LiveJournal about the program but not much.

St. John's- I know even less about this program. I was told the majority of the classes are in the evening and in Queens. Spoke to an advisor and a clinic director and both ladies were very kind and helpful. Buuuut why in the world is this program only 48 credits? It is ASHA certified, but the number of credits makes me wonder....also what kind of reputation do they have because of that?

Is there a reason why these schools are not as "popular" or talked about on this site? Are they not a highly regarded as other NY programs? The reason I'm considering these 2 schools is because they accommodate working professionals.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

  15. Hi,

Thanks for the info you provided! I registered for 3 classes, Audiology, Intro to Comm. Dis. and Anatomy and Phys. I'm really nervous because I haven't been to school in 6 years. I hope 3 classes will not be too much for my first semester. The good thing is that I only have to work the first 4 weeks of the semester, then I am on summer vacation and the Pre Reqs will be my sole focus.

Just thinking ahead, did you find it difficult to acquire quality letters of recommendation from the professors? Being that I live 2 hours away from the school, I doubt I will meet them, and I am wondering how I can stand out and make an impression on them.

Do you know what the general impression of the SUNY online program is amongst SLP graduate programs in NY? I spoke to a GA from Brooklyn College and she said that they have had graduate students who took Pre Reqs through New Paltz, so that put me at ease a bit.
