I think it is fine as long as it is the same institution and the same agency (SSHRC in your case). This is based off correspondence with the UofT student awards office.

From what I gather, your department might not know. I think they submit a list of people they nominate, and then it gets adjudicated at the SGS level. At least that seems to be true with my department...

I'd love to know that as well. Are you SSHRC or NSERC?

Whom did you receive an email from? Is it the department? Or SGS? Also, which one of the tri-agencies do you belong to?

Just for the environment alone I'd strongly consider UVic over Lethbridge Go have a look at Google Maps and you'll know what I mean.

Thanks for the info. I think this might vary a lot from school to school, then. Conceivably the high ranked schools will have much fewer people rejecting their NSERC offer, unless they're going for even higher ranked schools (eg in the US). Darn.

Anyone know approximately how many alternatives a school typically keeps for each NSERC CGSM award given out?

Do you guys think the schools give them out as they go along, or wait till end of submission deadline and then start reviewing?

I did! And they declined to tell me. Did they tell you how many people are on the waitlist at your university? As a percentage of number of awards given out?

Does anyone know how one might find out the ranking if you're on the waitlist?
