  1. Never mind! I just was contacted to do a zoom interview with Juilliard. Sending positive vibes to everyone here who applied.
  2. Hey all I just wanted to chime in and say I was a finalist at Juilliard the last two years and they did not do interviews. Not sure if that was a pandemic choice or if it’s a permanent decision. So I wouldn’t necessarily expect that they’ll do interviews this year. I’ll let you know if I hear more.
  3. Hey all. I’m a current student at Ohio. To answer the financial question. Every OU student gets tuition remition. And most students get a teaching position with a stipend. If this is something you care about, let Charles know in your interview. I was upfront with him that I wouldn’t go to OU without a full stipend and while a gamble, it worked out for me. And he always makes sure that whatever offer you got your first year does not decrease while you’re there. Hope that helps. Feel free to reach out with any questions.
  4. Thanks everyone! Congrats @TalkingChickpea on finding the right program for you!
  5. Hey all. I just wanted to let you know that I have officially accepted my offer at Ohio University. I'm so excited to be going. Thank you everyone for your support.
  6. I don't know about any scholarships. Maybe reach out to current students and see how they are managing? Good luck!
  7. @SeaLou I just got off the phone with Charles. One person declined their offer. I hope this means good news for you! Keep me updated with what happens.
  8. Congrats @N578 on your Yale acceptance!
  9. Hey @SeaLou Charles did offer me a spot. He couldn't speak to funding yet but said that he would know later this week. He also said that he would know if the other students he offered admission to were accepting later this week. @faro555 from my talks with Ohio this is very typical practice at state schools since funding is subject to change due to government funding. I think the best thing you can do is talk to current students and see if their funding has remained constant. And/or ask UCLA if anyone has gotten X funding one year and not the next. They should be honest with you.
  10. Hey @SeaLou I e-mailed Art at Iowa and got this response today: We receive a large pool of applications and can offer admission to a very small fraction of the pool. We have made offers of admission to three candidates. The process is highly competitive and unfortunately must exclude a number of talented and accomplished candidates. Also I know that Ohio has offered to 2 students already. I have a phone call with Charles today. Not sure that I will get the 3rd offer but I feel really good about it after my visit over the weekend. That being said, I know that neither of the other 2 offers had accepted as of yesterday. It's possible something has shifted since then. Best of luck! I would love it if we could be classmates there.
  11. Anyone have any info on hunter? The deadline was a month earlier this year so I wonder if they will notify earlier this year.
  12. Thanks! I'm visiting this weekend. I hope I walk away from it feeling exactly how you did about Rutgers.
  13. Yay, so happy for you @TalkingChickpea. Congrats!
  14. @Pugs I have to respectfully disagree. If @TalkingChickpea is planning on living in Brooklyn then I think they will still have access to nyc connections. For me the nyu name is not worth tens of thousands of dollars. But that's based on my financial situation. Obviously everyone has different needs and priorities.
  15. Hi @writr at this moment I'm only considering Ohio. I decided not to apply to nyu or Rutgers due to financial concerns. @TalkingChickpea That's a tough choice. my two cents is that if you feel you will be happier at Rutgers you should take that without worrying about reputation. What matters is which program you think will help you reach your potential as a writer. My guess is that if you did get into nyu you would be paying much more than 13k a year. So if Rutgers feels like a good fit, i think you should go for it!
  16. Hey @TalkingChickpea welcome and congrats! Can I ask what's the funding situation at Rutgers? Just wondering how that factors in when comparing with NYU.
  17. I wish @TBA1982! Sorry! I had a really great talk with Charles at Ohio. He started off asking if I was still interested in the program and was surprised when I said yes. He said that he thought I'd have three other offers from other schools by now and said that's a testament to how much he liked my work, which was really really nice to hear. Honestly we spent most of the time with me asking questions and him selling me on the program, which he definitely did. It sounds like it could be a perfect fit. At the end of the interview, he brought up how small the town was that the school was in and asked me if I thought I could live there for three years. I said that I definitely could but that if he offered me a place, I would want to visit first before accepting. He responded by saying they are definitely interested in having me in the program and that I should visit. So I am flying out next week, to see the last madness of the year and hopefully get some clarification. I wish I had asked him if I'm in. It sounds like my shot is good but I have no idea how many people they are talking to and inviting out there for the three slots.
  18. Just got this e-mail from Charles at Ohio "I have been reviewing applications and am particularly interested in your material but have a couple of questions for you. Do you have time for a phone conversation either on Friday, April 31, or sometime next week? " I have so many feelings. What does it mean?! But beyond all, thrilled to get some response from a school that isn't a cold rejection.
  19. congrats @CocoBeans So happy for you!
  20. Sorry, I don't have any info about Carnegie Mellon. Just rejected from Brooklyn College via e-mail. Good luck to everyone still waiting.
  21. Congrats @lrb0192! That's awesome!
  22. Thank you @TheEveHarrington Thank you @SeaLou and everyone else here. So very grateful for this community
  23. Hey @TheEveHarrington here's the link: http://www.applyweb.com/cgi-bin/ustat i was frankly really disappointed that no one had the common courtesy to respond to my email that I sent Monday. Especially because in past years Erik has sent out really thoughtful rejection emails. It just feels like there is a false sense of caring for rejected applicants. I probably won't be applying to brown again if I do this another year. Sorry if this sounds like sour grapes but if I can't vent here I don't know where I can! good luck to everyone still holding the torch of hope!
  24. Thanks for the info about iowa i just got my brown rejection via the portal so I guess that's the answer to my email.
  25. Hey @Cordialflower I didn't apply to those residencies. But best of luck! Is anyone waiting to hear from Brown still? I'm debating whether or not to just go ahead and contact them.
