I've seen a similar thread in other areas of this forum, but as many in those thread have stated, the appropriate attire is program related. For example, clinical psychology interviewees tend to dress more formally than the experimental areas. I just wanted to start this thread to get an idea of what might be appropriate to wear for a visitation/interview weekend. I'm personally have this problem because I applied to Quantitative Psychology programs and have no idea what to wear. On one hand, I already own a nice suit but I also have business casual dress as well. Any thoughts?

I know there are probably few quantitative applicants on this website, but in case there are, please feel free to pm me and we can correspond about where we're applying, what we would like to study, etc. Unlike other subfields which have tons of information available, I feel as a quantitative applicant I really have no one (including faculty at my UG institution) to confide in through this graduate school process. This feeling has been magnified since I've started hearing back from programs.

I certain secretary told me that if you haven't been contacted yet that it's pretty much a no barring some wierd circumstance in which they need a second round of interviews. doubt it though

Has anyone heard back from Minnesota's Social Psych. program? When I talked to the admissions coordinatoor in December, she thought that the end of January would be about the time applicants would be hearing back.
-
Also, in the past week I've had 3 long phone conversations with POI. Haven't been extended official acceptance, but I'm in right?
-
I emailed the program director because their interview day conflicted with another I was invited to and I wanted to see if I was still in consideration or not. Also, I'm in Quantitative Psych.
-
UNC Chapel Hill Oh well, still have interviews at 3 other schools
-
Funding information was conveyed during my interviews with my POI. In other news, just got a rejection from "the dream" school....expected....but still stings a bit....
-
To the person who found out they were rejected from UNC Chapel Hill via website- Is there a website you can log on to check the status of your application?

Had something interesting happen...I had a Prof. email me requesting a phone interview but also extended an invitation to visit in the near future. I thought that phone interviews were usually aimed at determining if they wanted you to come interview? Also, it was a Prof. that I didn't express interest in working with in my statement of purpose....wierd....

Will the person who got the UW Developmental Interview please PM me the POI? Thanks and congrats!
-
I was planning on wearing a suit to an interview
-
Will the person that posted the Missouri Quantitative interview please send me their POI? Thank you!
-
I just have to say, I have had one email from a POI out of 10 schools and the wait is absolutely KILLING me. I think I'm going to break my computer mouse by clicking "update" so many times on my email account and that I've lost about a good five years off of my life.

I asked this question in the results thread on this page but I thought I might ask it again to get some additional opinions/ provide this info for any other applicants that might be wondering the same thing. Essentially, I received news that I had a couple of proposals get accepted at some conferences (APA and a smaller regional conference). Should I update my POI or program director with this information? I have some experiences at conferences but not anything as legit as APA.
-
I have a couple of presentations (one of which printed in the conference proceedings) but nothing as good as APA. Hmmm….not sure what to do. Would you email that info right to a POI or the program coordinator?
-
Exactly. Mostly, I want to let them know that I've been accepted to present at APA and a smaller regional conference. Is this something that I should let them know or is it really not that big of a deal?
-
Should you contact your POI or program coordinator have been accepted for poster presentations at APA and a smaller regional conference?
-
A WashU interview has been posted on the results page! If it's yours will be please pm the poi?
-
Also, can we agree that using the results board as a way to communicate with previous posters is a bad idea? I get antsy when I see a result come in for a school I'm waiting to hear from just to read in the description that they are looking for details from a previous poster and are not in fact posting a communication with a school.
-
I'm interested in this question as well, but with a caveat: Does the department's interview weekend have anything to do with it? E.g. If it is two weeks before the department's scheduled interview weekend can I call admissions coordinator or POI?
-
Is anyone getting "antsy" that they haven't heard anything back even though there has nothing been posted on the results board?
-
I just got offered a phone interview by a POI. What does it mean? Just being considered among a bunch of applicants (5?)? Am I admitted baring a terrible performance?
-
Thank you. This seems like a pretty good place to start. I too have a phone interview coming up that I'm pretty nervous about so anything helps.
