  1. Hey so I'd concur with what was said above about adding Texas A&M, Colorado State, and Purdue if you're interested in Bayesian stats (not so sure about Iowa State, Michigan State, or Michigan though). In addition I'd add UT Austin, UConn, and UC Irvine. I don't know if any of these would be safeties per se but I'd imagine you'd have a good chance at Colorado State and UConn. But really to see which schools have professors doing bayesian stats research/ research that interests you, and that aren't just top 10-20 schools, you should probably just go through a bunch of department's websites. If you get an A/A- in Analysis 1 and get 85+ percentile on the quant section of the GRE you should have a shot at some of the bigger programs in the top 20. There aren't any really safety schools when applying to grad school. If you'd be ok applying to biostatistics programs you could probably crack the top 10 (the math requirements are a little more lenient), there are some departments that have research doing bayesian stats (off the top of my head UNC, and Minnesota, with Minnesota being the big bayesian biostats department). I'd agree with the advice above about applying to as many schools as you can. @MsHypatia @statbiostat2017 I think a difference in MH's profile and mine might (not sure obviously without comparing our CVs and transcripts side by side lol) be that while MH has more research experience than me, I have more breadth (depth? idk) in courses? I have 3 semesters of analysis (1 of which was grad) and MH only has 1 (the rest of our math background is pretty similar), and I have a whole cs major worth of courses (not sure how many MH has taken). I think the cs courses might be an asset for be but I can't be sure. I'm not sure if undergrad reputation has much to do with our different outcomes as my math/cs departments are unranked/ only math has a grad program.
  2. Idk how much it was in previous years (though 22k-fees sounds right I think), but the funding offer I received was 24k-fees
  3. Just to add to this here are the US News rankings split up between stat and biostats:
  4. @MsHypatia I wouldn't necessarily take me not hearing back as a good thing haha @ecomath your guess is as good as anyone elses! From their admission statistics (https://secure.rackham.umich.edu/academic_information/program_details/statistics/) they usually get around 300 applicants and usually take 15, so I'd imagine they'd end up sending out like 30-40 offers, in which case I think there's a good chance that more than just 2 people who come to gradcafe will get accepted.
  5. Ah ok, doesn't sound great, thanks for the info though! And yeah I'm hoping for Berkeley too. Good luck to you!
  6. When you say they finished their admissions for the joint programs do you mean they've sent out all of the acceptances? And Berkeley stats usually comes out mid to late February so I'd say to expect something by the end of next week possibly.
  7. @statsislife Was it to say you were admitted? If so, congrats!
  8. Two waitlists posted for CMU so I guess that means rejection if you haven't heard back yet :/
  9. @Robbentheking You're right it does look like they've staggered them in the past, hopefully they'll do the same this year! @statsislife Thanks so much for the info (: They'll probably be staggered then if they're sending personalized emails
  10. Yeah and a second michigan acceptance just got posted :/ I wish more people would write a little something in the results search (personalized email, email to check website, etc.) so the rest of us would know whether or not to expect to hear anything (personal emails probably get staggered, emails to check websitea probably go out at once, etc.)
  11. Ugh there was another CMU acceptance posted :/
  12. Nope, the phd decisions are usually out sometime in mid-February but idk about the masters, I'd try looking in the results search
  13. @lynntoujours Phd, there was an acceptance posted today. But there were also 2 acceptances posted for the masters a few days ago
  14. Congrats to those that got into Berkeley and UCLA Biostats! Has anyone heard from CMU stats? Someone posted an acceptance earlier and I'm getting kind of worried
  15. They haven't sent out offers yet for stats (which includes biostats), @ghjk is talking about industrial engineering (look at his other posts)
  16. Hopefully not but that's a likely possibility :/
  17. Damn I'm surprised pretty much no schools released decisions today (or this week). I guess everyone is just running on a later schedule this year.
  18. Congrats to those accepted to UT Austin! One of the posters said they sent out 6 offers and 4 of them were in the results search
  19. rip it looks like there were waitlists and acceptances posted for duke stats. I guess since they sent out the interviews a few weeks ago it means waitlist/rejection if we haven't heard from them yet
  20. @Frankenstein12 it looks like they send emails to check the application website, and from past years they send out most acceptances at once for both masters and PhD and then send out rejections/waitlists a few days later
  21. Someone posted a Harvard Statistics Masters acceptance, so those who applied to their Masters and PhD programs are probably gonna hear back in the next few days (they look like they release around the same time each year)
  22. Not really, but if you want to be less forward you could ask when applicants to your program should expect to hear back about decisions. It's a perfectly harmless inquiry, and unless you're pestering them it's not going to affect your application. Just make sure you're emailing an administrator and not a professor (since professors probably won't have time to answer you).
  23. @poopyhead Have you tried emailing an administrator to ask about the status of your application?
  24. @ghjk For the past few years they released decisions starting in mid February so I wouldn't expect to hear from them for another few weeks
  25. From what I remember, most of the advice in the past on this forum about situations like this was to take the phd offer. Even if you're in a situation to pay for a masters there's no guarantee that you'll be in a better position at the end, especially considering how short a masters program is (i.e. wasting 60k to end up at a similar level phd program to minnesota/ncstate/tamu in a year or two because you didn't really do much in the 1-2 years at your masters program). Minnesota is a top 10 biostats program and ncstate/tamu are top 15 programs, so it's not like you'll be shut out from academia going to any of them. I'd second the advice to look at placement records (if you can't find them online email someone from the program, it's a perfectly reasonable thing to ask for), you'll probably find there are a few students each year who go into academia from the schools you've gotten into. I'd also wait to hear back from other phd programs if you applied to any others.
