  1. Maybe tomorrow~~~~
  2. Hmm, I don't remember off the top of my head. It seemed pretty late, if I remember correctly.
  3. Mhmm. It's a bit difficult at my current school because there's no one in my field of study, so they can't give me any specific advice on grad school. There's also no real rankings for what I'm interested in studying in grad school. Lately, I've been looking at generic degrees, like the MPP, etc, or Middle Eastern Studies degrees, but there's just so much out there and it would be nice to talk to someone about what if anything it all really impacts in this field of work.
  4. I'm so keyed up... I have a feeling it won't be tomorrow, but I don't know how I'll stand it if it isn't tomorrow... Haha. To those who won in the past/recent awards, all of the fellowships seem to offer some sort of mentorship but I was wondering how good/involved that was? Especially as an undergraduate applicant, I'm curious if there would be help in looking at and choosing grad programs. @kbui Did you ask or did anyone give you advice on which school to pick? Or anything else like that about grad school?
  5. I think it could be any time from Monday to Friday (April 1).
  6. Is anyone else having trouble getting all of this medical paperwork done on time? It's a real hassle. I understand why it's such short notice, but it's hard to get to doctors when you're away at school... Oh well, I think I figured out most of it today so I should be on time!
  7. Oh my gosh. I HATE you, @kbui I saw that yesterday and was so upset! I couldn't think of anything to say because I was so upset myself so I decided to take a night to try and find something encouraging. BUT THEN THIS! I just can't believe it! I mean, I truly did have a really good feeling about it, and I tried to put out a lot of positive thoughts and talked you up to everyone I saw, but still it's so incredibly amazing! I'm so so so happy for you! It's funny, thinking back to when it was just you and I chatting, I just had the feeling back then that you had a chance. And look at you now? Congratulations, really, really! You deserve this! Now I just gotta freak out about the Pickering and see if the rest of us on this topic can't produce a clean sweep~
  8. Actually, you know, I'm not sure... I thought we had group orientations, but I do think we go from orientation together as a language group to the site... So that doesn't really make much sense.
  9. I think we are. I think we all go to the same orientation... Or at least that's what I heard, even though some programs start earlier/later than others. When does your site program start?
  10. YAYYY~~~~ @pdh12 !!! I'm so happy for you! Perseverance pays off! Any other alternates bumped up today?
  11. I was an alternate for summer funding for Turkish once and ended up receiving it.
  12. Ohhhhh. I just am so happy for you. I have such a good feeling about today, but it's so nerve wracking! I'm sending all my positive thoughts and well-wishes your way, @kbui
  13. Tomorrow you might hear, right? Woooo~~~~ Yay! I am so excited!
  14. @kbui Are you going in soon for your interview? I thought I remember it being this week. I've been sending all my positive thought your way this week! I'm really really happy for you! (Also the wait to the end of this month for the Pickering has gottene excruciating.)
  15. @Horb, there's no official list that I know of. I think you just have to find summer programs and check to see if they have FLAS. You might have a hard time though, I know most FLAS programs don't fund French or German. A master list would be super useful though!
  16. @kbui It won't let me join for some reason.
  17. Please send me the link, I might not be able to participate but I might get lucky with bus internet.
  18. Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! OH MY GOSH! CONGRATULATIONS! Waaaahh, you're so amazing! A surprise email is the best! Wow. You're all doing so well! This is a lucky year for us, I think. Really, sincerely, congratulations @awayfromhere ! There's so much to look forward to!
  19. @ZebraFinch, CONGRATULATIONS on the SAIS acceptance! :333
  20. I will be travelling then, but I'll try to see if I have internet on the bus.
  21. @chethedoctor, welcome! So I haven't received any of these big fellowships yet, but I did do an internship with the state department where I needed a security clearance. And I've travelled a lot, both as a child and as a university student. Lots of travel will certainly lengthen the time it takes to get your clearance, but it's not an automatic denial of any sorts. I think the big questions are more: During your travels did you work with or associate with questionable people? (Questionable can be vague, I'd imagine). Are you married to or in a relationship with a foreign national? Do your family have ties overseas? These sorts of things make the process more difficult, but, for instance, my family has a lot of ties overseas, two of my cousins even have dual citizenship with another country, but I explained clearly my relationship to them and what that all meant and was eventually granted clearance. No one can say for sure, but if it's just that you've travelled a lot, I wouldn't think that would be a big deal. Though it will be tedious to write it all down because they ask for EVERYTHING. Let me know if that helps or not.
  22. @awayfromhere, you find out tomorrow? That's so quickly! Ahhh, I have my fingers crossed for you and I'm sending all my positive thoughts your way. <3 It's so nice to hear that the finalists were supportive and kind, you get worried that it will be an intensely competitive atmosphere. But judging by this thread I think most people who are selected are of a similar caliber when it comes to being supportive. The whole interview with blank-faced panelists is kind of freaky, but it's just a chance to share your story, I'm sure you did great! Are you allowed to say anything about the written test? Was it very policy-based? Were the questions super specific? And congratulations on the Fulbright! Where would you be going? Could you defer the Rangel to do the Fulbright if that were to happen?
  23. CLS says its between 5-35 people at each site depending on the language/popularity.
  24. Hmmmm... That's a hard question. They're both great, clearly. I agree with ZebraFinch, a lot of times a program sounds awesome but the class offerings are what are really important.
  25. It's between Harvard and Columbia? For what specific degree?
