  1. Thank you! I'm not sure of exactly what decision to make now because I was already accepted by an in-state program (3 years of grad school is a lot, so in-state tuition and potential aid is a big sell). I'll just have to wait to see if I get any funding from Purdue before making a decision. I expected my application to be tossed too because their portal didn't list my transcript as received. :x asdfghjkl; I'm so happy
  2. I just received an acceptance from Purdue! I'm floored. I really considered this program a reach. ;-;
  3. That's great! Congrats!
  4. Hello! Congrats on your acceptance! I was considered applying to Duquesne but decided not to because they were only accepting a handful of students this year (the department head I emailed over the summer said somewhere around 2-3!). From what I can tell, it's a very tight-knit program. I also get the impression that their undergrads make up a substantial portion of their graduate students since they weren't accepting graduate applications this cycle. I don't know much else, but I'm sure someone around here can give you more info. Pittsburgh itself is nice, too, and has really improved over the years. I've only been there a few times, but you can probably find out more about Pittsburgh in the City section of these forums.
  5. Just out of curiosity, is there anyone here who is attending the department tour at SUNY Buffalo next week? I plan on flying in for the weekend and spending a night or two exploring the area.
  6. @np22 I've been checking my portals every now and again. I will say that I saw a rejection last week from one school in my portal that still hasn't been mailed to me. In one other case (UVa), I received an unofficial response via email that has still not been posted on my portal. I'd say it's worth it if you're anxious like I am, but you will definitely get an answer sooner or later!
  7. That's wonderful! Congratulations to the both of you
  8. Was making stir-fry when I received a surprise acceptance from UVA! So pumped.
  9. Decided to check my portal on a whim and saw a rejection letter from UNC Chapel Hill. Pretty disappointed since I thought it would have been a great fit, but there are still more programs to hear back from. Congrats to those who were accepted!
  10. @ThatSpeechGuy I was one of the early accepted students (Feb 8th). It's likely that they're just responding in batches! I would be surprised if that were not the case, since from what I can gather not many people have been accepted so far and past cohort sizes suggest they will accept more applicants. In other news, it looks like UNC Chapel Hill hasn't sent any other responses out since Wednesday. Hopefully, more of us will hear back next week.
  11. Yes, good luck to all of the Emerson interviewees today! I've been watching their videos on the website and reading papers coming out of the labs I'm interested in so I can make the most out of my chance to ask questions. I'm also working on 30-second versions of answers to the popular questions like "Tell us about yourself", etc because I don't want to ramble or put my foot in my mouth. Though knowing me, it'll probably happen anyway.
  12. I haven't heard anything from TC as of yet. If previous years are any guide, they should start sending decisions out by 1st or 2nd week of March.
  13. @MrsH Hmm, strange. Maybe they're bugging me because I sent them scores / consented to recieving grad school emails after taking the GRE? Who knows. Also I just checked and mine was last modified on the 18th as well! I guess this means they're going through them now!
  14. I'm applying to the NY/NJ schools listed in my signature. Of these, I've only heard from SUNY Buffalo so far. Is anyone else still getting emails from Montclair about their open house / tuition fee waiver deal? I swear I get one almost every week. It's terrible because my heart jumps whenever I see the address, but then it's just this silly open house email again.
  15. I've grown to dislike weekends because it means the likelihood of hearing back from programs decreases considerably. Ahh, what's happened to me? I can't wait for the application season to be over. :') As far as a PhD goes, I've really been considering it. I've enjoyed doing research in undergrad, so I wanted to get more experience and complete a masters thesis to set myself up for that next step. However, I think I'll take a year or two to gain more clinical experience and tackle my student loans.
  16. Hi @CMyesAnd. Welcome to the forum! I thought this place was amazing for guidance when I found, so I'm happy it can be of help to you too. Sorry to hear about that experience with Chapman. I think it's definitely worth contacting them to try and reschedule since if they gave you an interview it's only fair. As far as the other schools, I would check the grad cafe survey to see if anyone has posted results for the schools within the past month or so. I have a friend applying to Temple and she hasn't heard back. Most come in by around March. Good luck!
  17. As I understand it, Ph.D. programs in all fields (including SLP) usually offer full funding and a stipend - usually for a period of up to 5 years. I would be wary of any program that didn't, since it's usually considered a red flag if they can't support their students. Unfortunately, masters students are left to fend for themselves. For example, in the cognitive science department at my school MA students don't receive full funding and need to rely on loans, scholarships, or a graduate assistantship/campus job for support (unless they attended here for undergrad in which case tuition is 50% off). The Ph.D. students, on the other hand, are fully funded. However, like you said we're pretty much guaranteed a job in the field once we graduate. Many other fields usually use the MA/MS in order to gain more experience and prepare themselves for pursuing a Ph.D. or med school.
  18. I just received an interview time from Emerson! Looks like they're still sending them out, so don't lose hope! Does anyone know if they have a strong preference for Skype vs. going in person?
  19. Hello, everyone. Congratulations on the acceptances thus far! This is my first time posting in these forums though I've been around for a few months now. I'm an out of field applicant currently pursuing a B.A in Cognitive Science. I just found out today that I was accepted into the graduate program at SUNY Buffalo for the Fall (this definitely makes up for my not having received an interview offer from Emerson, heh). I was wondering if anyone else is applying, or has heard back from them? It seems like a great program, but I haven't spotted much discussion about it around here.
