  1. Got my rejection letter from SAIC (printmedia) today. It's the exact same letter they sent for painting! As in, word for word. Couldn't they at least be more original by department? Anyway, I'm not too sad about it. I was kind of anticipating it. Even if I got in, I would think very hard about going anyway because my main genre is painting, printmaking is just my secondary thing. So there's that. But I don't think I would reapply to SAIC again, maybe my work just doesn't fit in there. Wish they notified me sooner.
  2. I feel the same way too. I got 3 rejections in a row last month for painting: Yale, SAIC, & UC Berkeley. Berkeley felt like the biggest blow. I started to feel really depressed and my confidence went down the drain. I was thinking of just reapplying again next year. I wasn't really expecting anything anymore. The only positive thing that happened a week after that, was an interview offer with RISD. And now, I'm still waiting to hear from these schools: Columbia, UCLA, CCA, & SAIC (printmedia). Now I wonder if I should have applied to more schools.....
  3. Ughh I hate waiting. Everyday I get up from bed, I check my email and wait for the mail and everyday, it's always nothing. No news and just a bunch of irrelevant emails. I'm starting to get cranky. Still no word from these remaining schools I applied to: Columbia UCLA CCA SAIC (Printmedia) Should I even still wait or is it pretty hopeless already at this point?
  4. Thanks Michelle SF is a nice city, I love living here. But I'm curious about the east coast too. Good luck to all of us. I wonder, is anybody here from the west coast interviewing at RISD? Also, did anyone else apply to SAIC printmedia? And have you heard anything??
  5. Hey Michelle, I feel you, I am going crazy with this whole process as well. About RISD, I have an interview too on March 24th. From what I know, they said 45 are going to be interviewed for 10 spots. *sigh* I'm soo scared. I am waiting to hear from SAIC too (for printmedia, I already got rejected from painting). Good luck with your SFAI interview.
  6. But I specifically asked about MFA Visual Arts. Hmm..I don't know what to think anymore.
  7. okay, I called Columbia and they said, just because you haven't been asked for an interview doesn't mean you're rejected. They said they don't interview everyone they want.
  8. Congrats on your Columbia interview. When did they call you? Did they call on a Saturday? I didn't know admissions are open on the weekends, I never get any news on the weekends. Does it mean we're out if we don't get an interview w/ Columbia?
  9. Congrats, Sophia! Btw, how do you log on to the webadvisor thing? How do you access it?
  10. Congrats on your acceptances! Now, I'm worried about CCA. I heard nothing from them. Do you know how many people they're accepting and do you know if they interviewed everyone they wanted? Did they give you any info? I wonder if this means I'm out..
  11. Thanks, littlenova. Now, I'm super nervous. I've never done an interview like this before and I don't know what to expect. This application process has been taking its toll on me. I've been depressed, impatient, my confidence went down the drain, I've already accepted the fact I'll be rejected everywhere, maybe it's not my time yet. Lol yup, I've gone crazy..
  12. Thanks I don't know if you're out yet, check your email and your junk mail. I'm not sure if they emailed everyone already, or called others...Sorry, I'm new to this application process so I'm not really sure how it goes.
  13. They emailed me this morning. At first, I thought it was a rejection email, I was ready to cry. I scanned through it waiting to read "we regret to inform you..." but it was for an interview. They said they're only selecting 10 incoming students....I don't know how many are being interviewed. Now I'm super nervous.
  14. Just got an interview with RISD! I can't believe it. Okay, I know it's just an interview..but after 3 rejections in a row, this just made my day.
  15. Got an interview at RISD! Wow, I so did not expect this.
  16. Thanks, Michelle. You shouldn't view your being out of school for almost 5 years a negative (I wish I had that "life experience" they want). But if things don't go my way this time, then I can use a year to "grow." Anyway, I saw your website. I really like your figurative paintings on panels. Good luck w/ your SFAI interview. That's where I got my BFA. The instructors I worked with there are really great. Has anyone heard back from SAIC's printmedia? Do you guys know if they do interviews?
  17. Hey Sophia, sorry about Berkeley. I got rejected too. I found out before I even got the email. I checked their website and it announced there that they already called their 7 people (out of 200+ applicants). Anyway, I saw your website, I really like your gouache paintings. I work with gouache too but I never tried on black paper. What kind of paper do you use? I love painting on Arches hot press but I've never seen a black one..
  18. Found out my 3rd rejection today (UC Berkeley). I didn't get an official email yet but I checked their website and they said they already called their 7 people. I called to make sure and talked to this really nice guy from the art grad dept. He said out of the years he's worked there, he's never once seen someone straight out of undergrad get in the MFA program. I'm straight out of undergrad (last year) so I wonder if this plays a big role with the decisions I get. They typically want people with more "life experience." But anyway, I think their program is good but the location of their grad studios is in a very dangerous city, far away from the main campus.
  19. I got the exact same emails from CCA updating me that they have all my info and I should apply for FAFSA, so I don't really know what it means. I haven't seen anyone get an interview from CCA yet (in the painting dept.) here.
  20. They said around mid-March. Wow, I didn't know they already made some decisions though..Are those for painting or for other programs?
  21. I noticed you asked about CCA. I haven't heard from them either. I called and asked if they interview qualified applicants, and I asked if I am basically rejected if I wasn't offered an interview yet. They said, that is not the case. They only interview you if there is something questionable about your work or something. I don't know if this goes for all the departments, but I asked about painting.
  22. Check the Visual Arts forum, there are lots of updates over there.
  23. I got 2 rejections so far out of 7 schools I applied to. The first one WAS my top choice (Yale). I was very disappointed but I didn't cry. It took me a couple of days to get over it. I emailed the program director to ask for advice from the faculty reviewers on how to improve my portfolio if I apply again next year. Unfortunately, they won't even give any feedback. All she said was, "you should go to the the open house and meet with instructors and grad students." Actually, I went to that last year. I traveled from California to New Haven to go their once-a-year-only open house for their MFA program. I couldn't help wonder if she meant I should "make connections" and "suck-up" to the instructors and current grad students as a way in? That's just not my style..Is this how it works with Yale? Anyway, today I got my 2nd rejection from my 2nd choice. Kind of cried a little. Just a couple of tears though, when I was able to stop myself and realize it wasn't worth it. I thought, maybe I should mix myself a cocktail. But I'm already broke from college applications and all it took to prepare for all this. Plus, I don't want to gain any weight from this experience. Then I thought, maybe I should paint something. But my studio's a mess since I turned in my grad apps and portfolio. And I can't bring myself to paint for now after these rejections. That's all.
