    Ann Arbor, MI

Anyone else looking for a place to live in A2 right now? I'm out of state and hoping to go up there next month to look for a place to live. Any ideas on where to look other than the obvious (craigslist) are appreciated. I'm looking for a quiet area not too far from campus (def don't wanna live in Ypsi). What areas are recommended? Will be attending class in the North Quad. I appreciate any help/suggestions!
  2. Going to UMich in Ann Arbor. Stoked! Congrats to all.
  3. secured funding and is going to UMich. :o)

  4. Not a peep... Looks like I'm gonna have to go w/ UT just because out of state tuition is outrageous. I'm not willing to go 40-50k+ in debt for my MLIS.
  5. For UT--I asked about funding earlier this week, and basically received a canned response equating to, "if you had received a funding offer, you would already know about it." For UW--If you received funding, it would have been in your admissions packet. Funding situation is looking bleak.
  6. Did you get any funding? And Jus10--Was the 4k offered to you in your acceptance packet?
  7. I second this. Has anyone heard back regarding funding decisions? My inquiry goes to masters applicants. I have only heard back from UM, and they basically said that they have completed the first round of tuition awards and have notified all recipients (I was not one of them).
  8. Hey guys, Thanks for the help! Now the only problem I'm having is finding the RIGHT person to contact. Obviously, it varies from school to school, but I'm kind of at a loss. Can you recommend a good way to find the proper person to contact? I don't want to contact the wrong person. Edit: I've read through the titles you've mentioned, but I'm not really finding people with those titles.
  9. Hi all, It's official. I've received acceptance to every program I applied to! I'm simply ecstatic. I worked hard on my applications and got them in early, and it has paid off. I wish the best of luck to everyone else who is still waiting. While I am very excited about acceptance, I am still waiting to hear about funding from all schools. Five of the schools I have gotten into are ranked as the best in the country for what I am pursuing (Masters, Library and Information Science). My question is, can I use my acceptances as leverage? I want to inquire about funding without seeming pushy, but obviously funding plays a big part in my decision. What is the best way to inquire about funding? Any help would be much appreciated. April 15 is just around the corner. I've been having a very difficult time sleeping at night thinking about this. I just want to know what's going to happen!
  10. So far, I've been accepted to 5/6 programs I've applied to (waiting to hear from one more... should be any day now), but I haven't heard anything about funding. It's driving me crazy. If I don't receive funding, I will probably have to attend my last choice because the others are just way too expensive without any financial assistance. It's not even a bad school, it's just that their program isn't really tailored for what I want to focus on. It's financially feasible, though, because it's in-state. When is it okay to ask if funding decisions have been made, and what's the best way to word such an inquiry? I don't want to be pushy, but it's getting closer and closer to April 15. I'm on edge!
  11. Wow, okay... Nevermind then. That's kind of ridiculous imo, but whatever. I wouldn't accept either, unless they offered me some kind of funding. I mean, I won't even hear back from two schools until mid-March early April.
  12. I've heard other people say they've asked for deadline extensions (and most schools grant them)... since April 15 is the official courtesy date, or whatever. UT wants me to do something similar, so that's what I'm going to do. Just let them know I'm still weighing my options and waiting to hear back from a few schools, so I'd like more time to make an informed decision. UNC mailed my decision on Monday, and I didn't receive it yesterday, so I'm guessing it'll be here either today or tomorrow.
  13. Yikes! That makes me feel a lot less optimistic. Did anyone here apply to UNC? I've seen two acceptances (one via postal, one via e-mail) pop up on the results search, but I have yet to hear anything. Should I shoot them an e-mail or wait it out?
  14. I applied to six schools (master's): University of Michigan at Ann Arbor (accepted)University of Texas at Austin (accepted)Syracuse University (accepted)University of North Carolina at Chapel HillUniversity of Illinois at Urbana-ChampaignUniversity of Washington at SeattleHave yet to hear anything on funding from accepted schools and have yet to hear anything from the last three schools. Has anyone heard anything on funding yet from any of their schools?
  15. Was this as a master's applicant? Would you be willing to shed any more light on why you decided to withdraw your app, and what exactly the e-mail said? Also, what would be the best way to inquire about funding from schools you've already been accepted to?
  16. Master's in Information. No Ph.D. for me, yet. Best of luck!
  17. I applied to UIUC--according to an e-mail I received after submitting my application, they are expecting to mail out decisions mid-March to early April. I think I have a pretty strong application overall, so hoping to get in. Definitely hoping for some kind of financial assistance from any of the schools I applied to, as I would be happy to go to any of them. I applied to the top five Library & Info Science schools, which are also top five in the concentration I'm most interested in (digital library studies/information preservation). UIUC was the only school that did not require GRE scores, and I'm grateful because my scores weren't stellar. Other than that, I've got a pretty solid GPA, some solid professional experience (over a year as an assistant archivist), what I believe to be a focused SOP, and some solid recommendations. Let me know if you hear anything from UIUC. I'm also curious to know when you hear anything regarding funding from any of your schools. I've been accepted to three/six, but haven't heard anything on funding yet. Not sure if I'm supposed to expect to hear something later or if the acceptance is all I'm getting. Good luck!
  18. Idunno how 'worth' it it necessarily is, but I do it daily. It's how I found out I was unofficially accepted to UT. I received a letter a few days later confirming what was on the website. I still have to be officially approved by the Dean of Graduate Studies, but I'm confident that I'll be accepted. For the other two schools I've been accepted to so far, I first received an e-mail followed by a letter via snail mail confirming my acceptance. Checking the three other school's websites compulsively till I get anything via e-mail/snail mail. It's unhealthy and obsessive, but I can't help it. Just received an e-mail from UW saying they won't be mailing out letters till APRIL. Ugh. I wish schools wouldn't wait that long to let you know. I believe UIUC won't be mailing out letters till approximately mid-March/early-April according to an e-mail I received from them. Not sure when UNC will be letting their applicants know (apparently someone has already received word via this website... been checking the mail hoping to receive word). It can be worth checking, but I wouldn't consider it official (unless it's a rejection, then it seems unlikely to reverse).
  19. People with small [girl] hands are at a serious disadvantage (mostly w/ Guitar Hero b/c expert is ridic). If I could rock the vocals, then I'd be all for it (only on Rock Band, though... Guitar Hero's vocals are sooo picky).
  20. Thanks, guys! Pretty much all of the schools I applied to for the most part consider you for merit-based fellowships and funding once you've submitted your application (as long as it's before the early deadline, which mine all were). For example, from UM's website: "SI scholarship decisions are made by the faculty serving on the master's admissions committee and are based on the full set of application materials; no additional forms are needed." meg, your post was particularly helpful. I've heard similar things from a few other people, but I've been panicking a bit lately. None of the sites really say when funding decisions will be made, and I don't exactly want to just pop the question, as that seems a bit presumptuous. Obviously, it's still early, and the full picture/pool explanation (though maybe not accurate for all schools) certainly makes sense. I know for Ph.D. programs, schools seem to like to lock in the best potential candidates. My [optimistic] understanding with regards to master's programs is that the funding may be determined a bit later on down the road. jose--I'm not sure if it's necessarily a program in which you'll necessarily receive help, but there are definitely awards to be given at the schools I've applied to (which are all supposedly the best in the field and for the concentration I'm most interested in, with the exception of UT--my back-up in case I don't receive any assistance as I live in Texas). Thanks for the congrats, acs Best of luck to you all. Thanks again for the responses.
  21. Hi all, New here, so I apologize if this topic has been discussed previously. I used the search function and couldn't find an answer to my question. I have applied to six grad schools in Library and Information Science master's programs (or a similar discipline such as Information Studies). So far, I have heard back from three grad schools and received acceptance to each. I have not heard anything regarding funding, though. I was wondering if anyone could shed light on an issue that's been bothering me. It's harder to find information than one might think, or perhaps my Googling skills need polishing. Basically, I'm wondering whether or not I should be worried about not receiving any funding offers along with my acceptance letters. Is it possible that I will receive funding offers at a later point? I understand that it may vary from school to school, but I was wondering more specifically about people's personal experiences regarding this issue. I am really hoping for some kind of financial assistance, but I understand that it might not happen. So, in short, do most people receive funding offers with acceptance? Keep in mind that I am applying for my master's, not my Ph.D. If it helps, these are the schools I have applied to: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (waiting to hear from) University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (waiting to hear from) University of Michigan at Ann Arbor (accepted) University of Washington at Seattle (waiting to hear from) University of Texas at Austin (accepted) Syracuse University (accepted) Also, from the schools that have already accepted me, should I inquire about funding opportunities, and what might be the best way to go about it? Of course all schools have general information on funding on their respective websites, but that is why I ask. Thanks so much in advance for any insight/advice.
