  1. I'm sure your ramblings are more endearing than you think they are. Plus, I feel like that denotes a sense of authenticity. Wishing you an acceptance!
  2. What a time for misdials! Los Angeles came a ringin' only to be an eyewear boutique. Heart is racin' and it wasn't even UCLA.
  3. Just received a receipt of application letter from UNM. I was terrified to open it because it was a small envelope situation. @nikcav I suspect you'll receive one, too. Does anyone know if this is a new procedure, or is it pretty typical to get some sort of confirmation by post?
  4. @Pulsar Just found this: Cross-School initiatives include collaborations with Steinhardt’s Department of Media, Culture, and Communication, Stern School of Business, and Tisch School of the Arts. Offsite collaborations include PERFORMA, the international Biennial of Performance Art, the International Center for Photography, and the Urban Glass Workshop in Brooklyn. Community based initiatives in studio art, art education, and art therapy are complimented by an extended network of internships and field placements with outstanding artists, museums, galleries, publishers, filmmakers, schools, and hospitals. http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/art/about/
  5. Hmm...I'm not sure that you would be offered that opportunity. I'd like to say that it could be a possibility given the structure of the program, but I don't want to make any falsified claims. I reckon you could give them a call and they'll be able to sort it out. Let us know if you find out any further information Contact info: http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/art/studio/mfa/apply
  6. NYU's deadline is February 1st. You've time, if you're interested. I'm sure others know of a few more. Cheers!
  7. Signatures should automatically show beneath the respective member's post (assuming you're logged in). You can turn off all signature preferences by clicking the x and dropdown arrow just below the rating buttons on the right-hand side of the page. Maybe you've accidentally hidden all signatures? If so, they can be reenabled in your account settings.
  8. You've been blessed with the first acceptance of the forum, congratulations! Hope the TAship interview goes well.
  9. I freaked out just reading your post, haha. That's interesting that they would send something by post and not just an email (good sign, I hope!). I'm going for a walk to my mailbox!
  10. I think you'll likely just have to follow up again. If you have a confirmation email from your undergrad registrar's office (or third party service), perhaps it would be a good idea to include it in a follow up email. I had a similar thing happen to me a day after I submitted one of my apps. The confirmation email seemed to solve the issue/they found the transcripts. Hope everything works out in your favor!
  11. Solidarity, JW. I understand Nice list of schools--I hope that you get accepted to your top choice/best fit school!
  12. Where did you apply JW? Working on your website is certainly a productive means of distraction!
  13. Good luck with Rutgers, gtakaoka! Seems like a marvelous program. BICEO, I'll link ya if I ever come across one (re binging on Judge Judy).
  14. Hey all! Not sure if there are any programs with deadlines beyond the 15th of January, but I wanted to congratulate everyone for submitting applications. If you're still working on finalizing submissions, best of luck! I hope you all are fairing well in regards to staving off anxiety and anticipation. I almost read every post from last year's freak out forum, which perhaps wasn't the most calming thing to do before bed...I think I need a therapy dog. Perhaps this will do for now (found while reading the archives): http://www.zooview.tv/ Otherwise, I just learned that there are 5425 episodes of Judge Judy. As an aside, any other photo people out there?! Cheers!

Oh, that short story gets maddening to read after awhile. I'll send you a PM!

Hey Nikcav! Thanks for the suggestion about InDesign. I ended up using a combination of Word and Preview (thanks again Painter1 and Relm)! I had a gander at your work and really liked the cyanotypes. Those plus your thesis work make me think you might be inspired by Francesca Woodman (I adore her work). Best of luck with your applications!

Ahh, wonderful suggestions. Thanks for the options! Good luck to you two!

    PDF Portfolio

Hi all, Good luck with submitting applications! I am submitting my final two applications, but have come across a bit of a hiccup. My final two schools have asked applicants to upload portfolios as a PDF document. I was able to get Photoshop to do this pretty easily but it lacks functionality for me to add notes (i.e. title, medium, dimensions, date, brief description) or a cover sheet. Have any of you other applicants used any other program to create a PDF portfolio? I'm thinking Word is probably the next choice, but would love to hear about any other options. Thanks!
  19. Thanks for the helpful replies, everyone! I'm doing my due diligence and drafting some questions that I plan to ask each program. Best of luck to all of those 2016 applicants out there!
  20. Hey gradcafe world, Question on doing research about funding: do you think it would be bad form to ask the programs I'm considering what the avg amount of funding awarded to admitted students is? what's the best way to figure out the financial feasibility of a program? Thanks for your input!
  21. Hmm, I shall look into this further. A friend of mine just recommended that I look at Purchase as well, so I probably should! Thanks for the suggestion!
  22. Hi all, The process of vetting schools is so darn difficult! I feel like I have a new first choice program every other week. I was recently in touch with my undergrad advisor who mentioned that I look into smaller name programs that offer strong funding packages and good overall experiences (access to faculty, assistantships, facilities). She said that she was pleasantly surprised by UT Arlington and U Houston. Are there any other hidden gem programs (either photo specific or general studio/interdisciplinary) that I should look into? To give you an idea of what programs I'm looking at, this is my list (which could use some rounding out via smaller programs): UCLA, ASU, U Washington, U of A, UNM, RIT, MassArt, RISD, Yale, Columbia College, Rutgers, UT Austin, and potentially U Houston
  23. Drat! Probably wouldn't have been able to afford it anyway.
  24. Thanks for the suggestion cpw0021 and maidenvoyage. The only dual degree program that i see listed on the SAIC website is a combination of arts policy and art history. Perhaps i overlooked the proper page so I'll look into it further.
  25. Hey all, I'm interested in taking a closer look at dual degree programs (MA-Museum Studies or the like and MFA), but haven't found many options. Seems like SFAI and CCA are the only two that offer such a program. Are there any others that I've not yet found?
