  1. I haven't had any interviews for SLP grad school, but for my prior master's, I made sure to: Project confidence- look up power poses (or positive posture for sitting and standing), firm handshakes, eye contact Have a good answer for 'What are your weaknesses?' and 'What challenges do you anticipate?' It should be truthful, but also not harm their perception of you. Practice stalling for time without sounding foolish. This can be through rephrasing the question to make sure you understand correctly or breaking the question down into smaller components and then answering them.
  2. I don't think the schools here are known for favoring their undergrads. I think it's just super competitive because it's a big market and attractive to people from other places. (And also, the CUNYs are one of the best financial deals in the country, from what I understand.)
  3. Have you considered any of the private schools? I think they have acceptance rates in the double digits.
  4. It seems like there's one of these threads every year.... Anyone else want to talk about the insane competition in our overpriced little corner of the world? Schools? Interests? Coping mechanisms?
  5. I'm not sure if it will be available in the summer, but ENMU is very reasonably priced. 3 credit classes cost between $600-700– I forget how much, exactly, but it's affordable.
  6. Regard #3&4– as others have said, the name really only matters if you want to pursue a PhD (and possibly not even then). Thus, my answer is to follow the money. Since attending NYU doesn't give you a leg up, you are better off considering which schools will leave you with the least debt. SLPs are not guaranteed higher salaries, so you might as well make it easy on yourself.
  7. In terms of percentile, a 154 on the new GRE is equivalent to a 690 on the old GRE. Neither of these correlate well with your SAT score, but I don't think it's worth sweating.
  8. Does anyone have any advice for making a connection with the professors at your target schools by email? So many people have mentioned emailing to determine whether you would be a good fit for a school, but somehow I feel nervous about it. I did it with one school and was promptly informed that given my circumstances, I could not apply (which was obviously helpful, but still off-putting). Any tips?
  9. So how are you all finding Mizzou? Like jgconforti, I am a returned Peace Corps volunteer, and the Coverdell fellowship is very attractive. I don't know if I'll be able to visit, so I'd love to hear from current students.
  10. Yes! Thanks for the suggestion.
  11. Sorry- I meant Child Language Disorders. Thanks anyway!
  12. Longwood, maybe? I have a similar request– does anyone know of online leveling courses that offer Child Language Development on an ad hoc basis? New Paltz offers it, but you need to enroll in the post bacc program first.
