Waitlisted at JHU, it's the only place I'd heard back from in any way, and I've heard from everywhere else.
Pretty close to taking myself off the waitlist though, I've got another prospect that will likely be better for me and my family in the long run. If I do, it'll prob be at the end of week after next (need to have a meeting about my PhD proposal first). -

At Columbia, we were told that the department would have to justify any acceptance of their own past students extremely well to the grad school and so needed particularly strong applications from such students in order to accept them. But I know of at least three people (one a long time ago, two recent) who got in in spite of that. Also don't know how common this policy is.
Don't suppose you were also told when offers might be coming out??

When'd you get that? I'm going to assume I was rejected since I haven't heard anything from them yet.
I hope there's still a chance for you! -

I saw one lone Johns Hopkins acceptance, can anyone claim that?

In response to a personal e-mail to a faculty member, I just received the news that Columbia rejected me. This sucks so so much. Can't believe how much it hurts.
Sorry to hear - don't suppose they'd have told you when they intend on releasing their offers?

Does anybody pay to get the premium features? I wonder if they are worth it.
I do - my motivation was the thing with McGill that happened last year, and I figured that if something similar happened I'd need to have more info to calm my mind. It didn't help, mostly because my academia account is pretty dead - the few new things I can put on it I'm not allowed to for a little while longer..
Overall, I don't think they're worth it. I intend to cancel my subscription as soon as I get the last rejection

To add to the existing Academia.edu anecdotes, I had a profile view by someone from UCLA in late January, and I was accepted to UCLA last week!

McGill visited me last year. McGill rejected me last year

It never really ends, it just lies low for a while. Applying for jobs is exactly the same way, and the publishing process isn't all that different either.
The publishing process is more fun, I reckon. At least you (usually) get told why you didn't get in

Since 2012, Toronto has always released their first (non-fellowship) decisions on Fridays. Because they did not release any decisions today (to my knowledge), I am inclined to informally shift my prediction to Friday, February 24th.
Thanks for the info, Sam!

Cool - thanks for the info!

I think that the poster was from somewhere in Asia (under "status" the poster listed I for international), rather than gradcafe's default time zone being in Europe.

Australia is the most likely choice. Lots of us applying to US grad programs.

Yale and Toronto are both expected this week. Would be nice if they were a bit early.....

Not expecting to hear from anywhere until the weekend next week. That said, UGHHhhhhhhhhhhhhh

To the person waitlisted at DePaul - did you have an interview as well?
-
I work full time at my university's research office. The job is helping academics apply for grants (writing/editing, whatever they need)

Congrats necessaryandsufficient!
What is the Facebook group to which you refer? -
I don't want to post this in the rejection thread, because I hope I'm wrong, but looks like my first rejection.. (DePaul - no interview = no offer, yeah?)

Wow. If this is right, they are meeting to review the final apps right now! And, that Skype meetings are next monday-wed. So...does this mean that theyll notify potential candidates today?? (I hope)
I also hope..
There is another meeting for all full time faculty right after, so i assume the Grad Director will be there. If I'm not wrong, it's 4 o'clock there now. So.. if we're going to hear back today, it'll start in about an hour.. (but then, he'll probs want to go home at 5, because it's friday and fuck working late on a friday..)

I've never checked my email's spam folder so regularly in all my life.
The worst thing is that sometimes you might get spam emails that say something like "PHD OFFER"
And you get excited, and you click on them, and really, they're just an ad for a shady online pharmacy

I don't actually remember what my GREs are..

That's one of the benefits of living outside of North America - no telemarketers from there will be calling.

most people who really question the value of what I do usually work in really shitty corporate jobs that slowly destroy their souls day by day. I usually say that I do what I love and get paid well for it (stipends in Australia are tax free, so it ends up being super decent). They tend to get quiet after that.
