  1. You have a really good list of schools but I would reconsider a few of them unless they're your #1 or #2 choices! EdFind is great but the ranges aren't always helpful without the means. OSU is likely the most competitive school in Ohio, I think their mean gpa is a 3.8 cum. University of SC and MGH both get a lot of applications. MGH isn't as competitive but University of SC is looking for a 3.75+ gpa. I wouldn't discourage you from applying to these schools if you really like the programs - I know my stats aren't anywhere near what FSU wants but it's my dream school so I'm applying. But if you're just applying to apply, I'd replace them with schools like Grand Valley State.
  2. I just want to say in regards to #s 2 and 5, I wish I had chosen an accelerated program or at least a combined undergrad and masters. If she finds this program intense, it will be intense whether grad schools guaranteed or not. I would check into GPA requirements for the programs but I imagine they wouldn't be extremely high. It's more likely she'll actually be able to enjoy her undergrad if she isn't stressed about getting into grad school the entire time.
  3. I don't know anything about USU specifically but in looking at the course catalog I would categorize COMD3400 as required knowledge for this major. It looks to be the equivalent of physical bases of hearing, or part anatomy of hearing and part hearing science. Even if this actually isn't a required course for the programs you're applying too, there's likely no way around it. Since its a prereq the following course will be building off it. Neither of those courses are particularly easy at most schools so I'd just take it. :)
  4. I am! Cutting down my personal statement was almost impossible, but I started with about 500 words that I'm either expanding or cutting based on the school. I was confused because their prompt doesn't quite match what they ask for in the FAQ, so I just went off of the FAQ answer (posted below) but also tied in the prompt. "The 'statement of intent' should include a concise summary of the applicant's professional goals, specific interests within the chosen discipline, and relevant experiences to date. Committee members view the 'statement of intent' as an opportunity to gain information about individual applicants that goes beyond the more traditional indicators such as letters of reference, grade point averages, and GRE scores. The committee relies on multiple sources of information, both subjective and objective, to reach an admission decision. An applicant's 'statement of intent' is evaluated for clarity of writing and form. It is also an essential vehicle for understanding the applicant's professional goals, specific interests within the professions (e.g., adults, children, infants, toddlers, hearing impaired, etc.), and special experiences that may have generated initial interest in the discipline."
