JDeane reacted to Lucky14 in Petroleum Engineering Fall 2016 MS/PHD Profiles
TAMU actually pratises "holistic" admission policy. They don't merely look at your GPA or GRE scores. Trust me! I would have been rejected if they just looked at my academic performance in college. I believe they will read your Statement of Purpose, your letters of recommendations and consider every supporting documents (Well, that's what an international student like me experienced).
Maybe you should contact your department/ program coordinator. They are very professional and helpful. The one that assisted me to apply for Fall 2016 is working in College of Architecture. Your AIS status are from "Office of Admission", they will change it as soon as your department accepts you. Don't sit around and assume, compose an email and ask your coordinator. Honestly I was very interested in one program at TAMU and I applied to that one grad school ONLY (brave, I know!!!). I was blessed to get admitted.

@JDeane For TTU, as far as I know they have really limited funding for incoming Master students. However, all of the Phd students here have some sorts of fundings (TA or RA). And yes UT is my top choice, but I will attend any school if it gives me funding.
@Pete_Eng2016 I don't think GRE scores matter that much once you have research and working experiences. My GRE scores are low too.

@alligator @JDeane just saying; I was applying for MS spring 2016 at school of mines and TTU I got accepted at both with no funding.
TTU is very hard to get fun and CSM is impossible

JDeane reacted to Aeroeng in KAUST applicants - Spring 2016
Hi guys,
I have applied for PhD in AMCS program. Had both interviews and a candidate professor who wants me deeply. Last week he gathered some info saying that my HR skype interview was negative but do not know why.
Has anyone had a decision yet ??

JDeane got a reaction from DBIN in KAUST applicants - Spring 2016
Yes, I can definitely agree with that! POI is only a first and small step in the process, as the administration is the big decision makers. But this has been quite lengthy, and I will most likely accept an offer here in the US if results are not posted very soon.

Yes, I read on the website that those who are not far from Istanbul will be gathered for face to face. But this should be seen as advantage, as that is a better way to make an impression than skype! Western hemisphere (e.g. USA) will not get such interview.

JDeane reacted to UET_Applicant in KAUST applicants - Spring 2016
Hi there
Good luck for all those who had there second interview and for us too who heard nothing yet from KAUST. I think the only selection criteria for any scholarship is your luck. I have 7 years of experience in my field and have four international journal publications from which 2 are impact factor. Also one book written by me and available on amazon. Still got a hint from POI of not to have any hope to be selected. 7 band in IELTS. Gold medalist in my undergrad, but the only thing I didnot have was a good GPA in MS which was 3.2/4 in 2010, just because got married at that time and had kids so couldn't concentrate on my studies. (I can't imagine that a research University (KAUST) with high research standard can reject on the basis of just GPA that is just on the basis of the marks which you get in exams, they didnot count my gold medal, my impact factor publications, my 7 years of experience. What can be worse than that. I wanted to join KAUST just because of my strong affiliation for Makkah and Madeena, and there was no other reason for joining KAUST, as there are a lot of world class universities in the world. I am rejected because I am a female and females are not a part of diversity I think).
My POI (USA no. 1 professor) told me that he strongly wanted to hire me and I also got emails from his side that he has selected me. The only authority over there is the admission committee. POI was very surprised when he wanted to move my case further and he came to know that my application was dropped.
I shared my experience just to tell you all what happened to me. I dont want to discourage you, maybe you are the ones whom KAUST is looking for. What do you all suggest should I apply again for Fall 2016? as for that too I can't change my MS GPA. Please share your experiences as well.

That is good DBIN, hopefully you will get decision soon! Was your interview via skype? You are in Germany right?
-
JDeane got a reaction from salam11 in KAUST applicants - Spring 2016
Yes, it seems that the professor sponsorship is the first step, and then the final and major step is the KAUST administration. They get the final word, even if your professor gives a high recommendation. And even getting the personal interview does not mean a guaranteed admission, as I am still waiting from September until now.

I hate waiting
I'm trying to be patient. However, I cannot handle that! I feel that my motivation decreases each day! In addition, I cannot concentrate to my classes!

JDeane got a reaction from abohammed in KAUST applicants - Spring 2016
Abohammed,
I know what you mean, but don't worry too much about it. There is plenty of universities and we will all be placed at where is best for us insha Allah.
However, I would like KAUST to move faster, even if rejection. It is nice to just know and move forward!!
-
JDeane got a reaction from DBIN in KAUST applicants - Spring 2016
Yes, I think the on-boarding process is faster than that. And HR interviewers did not mention anything about forwarding my application to Fall. Maybe that was that particular student's experience, ???
