  1. Right here! I'm also an HDE applicant. Love seeing a few other HDE applicants here in GradCafe! ?
  2. Hi @CaitlynM While it is possible it could be different his year for HGSE (and with COVID, I guess anything is possible), I just went back and checked though the old HGSE threads here on GradCafe and confirmed that it has been the 1st Friday in March every year since March 2013. Fingers crossed HGSE keeps up the same timeline for sending out decisions.
  3. Congrats on the UPenn acceptance! What program did you apply for at HGSE?
  4. Congrats on the acceptance offer from NYU, @CaitlynM! So exciting! Fingers crossed for more good news from HGSE and the rest of your applications soon!
  5. Given that I will be 39 when classes will start in the fall, I'm hoping I'll be able to help balance out the average age of the group for all the bright young minds that will be there (like you, @Trytryagain) ?
  6. It definitely was tough not having a really clear outline of each program and concentration (though I was glad to they posted some information on the website in December). It'll be interesting to see how they mesh the different programs with the concentrations.....but hoping that we'll be able to see how it is done in person at HGSE as students there this fall! ?
  7. Seems like a fun idea, @chai time! Mine might be different as I only applied to one place and one program, but I'll bite and offer mine here: I DREAM that I'll get into HGSE with a generous grant and/or fellowship offer. I HOPE that I'll get into HGSE, but only have loans offered to me....leaving me to carefully weigh my options. I GUESS that I'll get wait-listed at HGSE, and I'll be on pins and needles until I hear one way or the other in the late spring or summer.
  8. @Beezkneez08 Did you apply for a concentration too?
  9. It is so true that February feels like it is incredibly long! But (hopefully) we will be finding out the news in less than a month! @chai time, Thanks for sending that Peterson's information! Fingers crossed we are all on the positive end of those odds!
  10. I can't see HGSE doing this over a typo. Keep the faith! ?
  11. I feel the same way, @chai time! I applied last year to SSP (because I didn't really feel like my goals fit well in any one of the other programs), but my interest are at the edge of several of the old programs. Being able to apply to the HDE program AND the HE concentration lets me (hopefully) focus my time at HGSE effectively.
  12. Hey all! Just wanted to remind everyone that the priority deadline for submitting forms for financial aid for HGSE is coming up fast (Feb 12th). Just finished doing both the HGSE form and FAFSA here and it didn't take too long to do them. Just don't want any of us to miss out on whatever aid HGSE may be able to give us. Good luck to everyone! Fingers crossed for myself and everyone else on this forum!
  13. Thank you so much! From what I've heard, HGSE seems to like having a well-rounded group of individuals in the cohorts (perhaps an alum or two can confirm this). Your stats look impressive and competitive to me. Hope to see you in the fall on campus! ?
  14. Sure thing. I applied for the Human Development and Education Program (and the Higher Education Concentration). I posted a month or so ago in this thread all my stats (just checked....posted it on December 8, 2020). Would love to hear your thoughts after you read it. ?
  15. As a fellow applicant....fingers crossed for us both (and everyone else here)! Good luck!
  16. Thank you for confirming this! Glad they'll have a similar number of accepted Ed.M. students. ?
  17. I am curious about this too. I imagine (hope?) they will stay about the same....but haven't heard anything concrete about this.
  18. Good luck to everyone! Proud of each and every one of us brave enough to apply! Fingers crossed for us all.
  19. Hello again all! Been meaning to post my stats for some time (like others, I'm hoping to help pay it forward regardless of how the process goes for me). Any thoughts, suggestions, and/or critiques are welcome. Concentration/Program: Ed.M. in Human Development and Education (planning to take the concentration "Higher Education")GRE: V: 158, Q: 156, AW: 4.0 (Took it last year, not planning to re-take)Work experience: Several years working research (some in biomedical, some in education). Previously worked as an editorial assistant on an academic journal. Also previously worked as a data analyst at a university. Currently working as a program coordinator at a university.Undergrad: BA in History from a public university in the United StatesUndergrad GPA: 3.2 (over a decade since I finished my undergrad degree) Graduate: MA in Biomedical Sciences (from a private university in the United States), MS in Counseling (from a public university in the United States), a few other graduate courses after completing both of these degrees. (Over a decade since I finished first master's degree, 5 years since finishing more recent master's degree). Graduate GPA: Between a 3.5 and 3.6 (haven't calculated it exactly between the two different graduate degrees and the other classes I've taken)Research: Several years of research in various areas (mix of biomedical research and education research). Over 30 presentations (both at different conferences as well as other invited presentations). A handful of publications (mix of both peer-reviewed journal articles and book/monograph chapters, though only one of these as the first author). One manuscript currently under review with a journal. A couple of other works currently in progress. Research thesis for one of my previous master's degrees. Have received a couple of small grants from professional associations for previous research.LORs: 1 from a faculty member who I did research with (some of which has been published), 1 from a different faculty member who has invited be to be a guest lecture in their doctoral class the past 3 years, and 1 from someone that I serve on a professional board with (they are the chair of that board and a VP at a university).SOP: Talk about my past experiences and how they've brought to me to my current interest (specifically looking at how students in higher education environments learn and develop outside of formal classroom environment). Also talk about what I feel HGSE can offer me and what I can also (hopefully) contribute as part of the community there. Other schools: It is HGSE or bust for me. Fingers crossed for us all on this journey! I've found the community helpful the other times I've applied to HGSE (this will be my 3rd application now in the past 6 years), and happy to help out however I can. Good luck to us all!
  20. Hey @Yoobo! I'm planning to apply to the HDE program (with a higher ed. concentration). Nice to see someone else looking to apply to the same program. To me, sounds like you'll be an excellent applicant! Happy to chat more if you like. ?
  21. Hey everyone! Glad to be jumping in with this group! Found the groups very helpful in previous years when I applied. I worked with @graciasadios to update the admissions data file he created to include the most recent 5 years of data from what people have posted in various threads in GradCafe. Hopefully people find it useful. Definitely saw some interesting data as I was going through the different threads and filling out this sheet as best I could (in terms of admitted students, students that were not admitted, and financial aid awards). I'm planning to apply again this upcoming cycle....will be the last time I'll be able to apply as it'll be my 3rd application. Waiting for work to settle a bit before digging in to do my application, but eager to be on the journey with all of you. I'll post my stats/program I'm applying to as I get further into the actual application. Good luck to everyone!
  22. One option might be to see who has published in journals focusing on this area. Off-hand, I am aware of at least one journal that focuses on veterans (Journal of Veterans Studies). Looking at who has previously published in this journal could be a good start to identifying who is doing this work (or similar work). One other point to consider it to echo what others have said here and to slightly broaden your search in terms of departments/Ph.D. programs. Student affairs administration and social work are a couple of fields that come to mind for me as places that would likely have faculty working in/around this area. I texted a colleague that does some work with student veterans, and he shared this upcoming conference information with me that he said may be helpful (depending on your timeline). https://www.naspa.org/events/naspa-symposium-on-military-connected-students2 Hope this helps. Good luck on your search! Can't wait to hear about your success in your search and beyond! ?
  23. Thank you very much for the compliments! I appreciate them. Obviously disappointed with the decision I received, but I'll keep trucking along. Perhaps HGSE is meant to be down the road as opposed to now. We'll have to just wait and see.
  24. It was a no for me. Bummer. Congrats to all that got in!
  25. Just logged into mine and not seeing anything that wasn't there before...….? Just to check....is this the same application login where we all applied? Or is it another portal?
