  1. For those who have not gotten emails (seems common for the HM crowd--I didn't get one and I'm also HM), you can email info@nsfgrfp.org and they will send it to you. I just wanted it for my own records, and because I was curious about what it would say.
  2. I got honorable mention. No one said anything negative at all about my application. Oh well!
  3. I haven’t gotten an email yet and it isn’t letting me log in :-/
  4. Eh, I think it is just something to identify and work on. I think that graduate school is a great time to identify traits/habits that interrupt productivity, and actively work to fix them. Everyone here is somewhere between undergrad and their second year; there is still plenty of time to work on how you handle stress, anticipation, uncertainty, etc. I think it's a bit soon to throw the baby out and conclude that research/science/academia isn't the field for any specific person here. And this is coming from someone whose productivity has not been impeded whatsoever by the NSF GRFP. But I can understand that some people are simply more anxious, and some people might have more riding on this than I do. (And somehow I completely screwed up the quotations in this comment!)
  5. It's all been leading to tomorrow morning, when you see that email in your inbox. I predict that I'll just stare at it for like 10 mins before finally opening it.
  6. Yay!!! Finally!! I’m ready, regardless of what the outcome is. I just want the wait to be over!
  7. I wonder how long ago they made the actual decision... like the decision has to have been made by now, right? Our grfp fate has already been decided and we’re just waiting for them to tell us.
  8. I dreamt last night that the results were released this morning, and everyone was in here saying whether they were awarded or not. But in my dream, I was too afraid to open the email. In reality, I’m so tired of waiting that I’m going to open that email immediately. I don’t even care what the outcome is so much anymore, I just want to know!
  9. I’ll be another to add that funding “desperation” has nothing to do with why I applied for the NSF GRFP. I already have a pretty nice funding situation because the PIs in the lab I’m in are great at getting grants. I want it for the accomplishment and honor; it is a great honor, after all. And, of course, getting one fellowship tends to lead to success with future fellowships. Finally, if I get my own funding, then obviously it is icing on the cake for my advisors because the money that’s been set aside for me can go towards funding a future incoming student.
  10. Have the results ever been posted without a maintenance announcement preceding them?
  11. Is it late enough in March to be considered “around” early April? That makes me think next week is more likely.
  12. Let me just say that regardless of what happens tomorrow morning, we have some excellent investigators in this thread. You guys are on it.
  13. Yeah, my mindset is that I’m most likely not going to be awarded. And I’ve already kinda mourned that possibility. I just keep reminding myself that I’ve had a lot of successes in my career thus far, so if I don’t get this one thing, it doesn’t mean I’m a bad scientist/academic. If I am awarded, I think I’ll probably fall over and have a heart attack, hah. I am eager for the results just so I can move on with my life.
  14. At this point, I think it’s anyone’s guess when the results will come out. And I don’t think anyone hanging out on Reddit or GC has “inside knowledge,” or any information other than a guess based off of previous years. Other than it being a Tuesday or a Friday sometime before mid (or late?) April, who knows when it’ll come out. I knew it wouldn’t be out this morning, but I was still disappointed when I woke up this morning to no email. I’m tired of waiting!! I just want to know. Sigh.
  15. I have assumed that “final status” will eventually contain information about whether you’ve been awarded or not, after results are posted. I don’t think it being blank at this point indicates anything about whether you are being awarded.
  16. And I think the person on Reddit is also referring to Tuesday 3/20, since that comment was posted today.
  17. Wait... I’m confused by what you mean. It’s Wednesday (at least where I am), so “this Tuesday” for this week has already passed. Next Tuesday is Tuesday March 20th, which was the Tuesday I thought you were referring to? What do you mean “this Tuesday”?
  18. Someone on the subreddit /r/GradSchool said an “insider” told them it’d be released Tuesday. So with your superstition and their “inside knowledge,” there might be something to it!
  19. I am currently preparing for a couple of interviews, one of which is at short notice so I'm cramming, and right now my main focus is on becoming very familiar with my POI's research. Knowing how to talk about your own research is really important, too. If you haven't gotten much practice with this at conferences and such, it would be good to try practicing aloud. It is good to feel comfortable discussing your strengths/areas in need of improvement because I've been told that interviewers sometimes ask questions about that.
  20. I'm also waiting to hear from WPA, hopefully we hear something early next year.
  21. Hi, I applied to the Behavioral Neuro program at UCLA, and I haven't heard anything so far! You should take a look at the Psychology forum; there is a Cognitive Neuroscience thread and some other related threads. I know in the Cog Neuro threat, there are posters who are applying to various different neuroscience programs.
  22. I'm definitely on the same boat when it comes to the email checking. I probably check my email at least once every 15 minutes. It's getting out of hand. It's to the point where I'm getting a little annoyed with other people for emailing me, haha. Like, why can't you be a graduate admissions coordinator emailing to say I have an interview?!
  23. Awesome, I was hoping a thread like this would pop up soon!
  24. The director of a research program that I am in has still not written letters for my 6 schools with Dec 1 deadlines. She is the most on-top-of-it, organized person I know, and she has written letters for me in the past and always submits them either the day before they're due, or on the day they are due. Nonetheless, it is nerve wrecking! I just sent her a gentle reminder this evening (the only reminder I have ever sent her about anything), and I'm hoping she doesn't get annoyed with me for it. I mean, it's pretty reasonable to send a reminder about 6 letters the night before they're due, right? Edit: Oops, just realized this was in the History forum. Hopefully you guys don't mind a random post from a psychology major.. Heh.
  25. @LWT Yeah, we're pretty much the same in terms of GRE and GPA, too. I'm applying to a bunch of the UCs (University of California), as well as U Washington and U Oregon. Judging by the list of schools you're applying to, I think U Washington is the only program we have in common. I'm not applying to Berkeley.
