  1. You can check out this site for some good essay resources on sociology. They have a large collection of essays on different subjects that can act as good learning material.
  2. A lot of wonderful ideas towards teaching!
  3. I wouldn't think too much at first and just start putting my thoughts to words. Once you get the monkey off your back by having a rough draft, it is time to logically arrange your write up. Soon, things would start to make sense and you would be done with your second draft. After a gap of few days, read the entire write up and make changes to make it perfect. If you go after perfection in your first try, you will obviously be overwhelmed and wouldn't know where to start.
  4. I see it as a test of relationship. Even though it is said that long distance relationships don't work, you got to push through and make things work. You gotta at least try. I know it would be tough to maintain a long distance relationship. But if you could actually successfully manage it, then I think you guys are meant to be. Take it as a challenge and see how much can you sacrifice for the sake of your relationship.
  5. I can totally understand. Addressing a class full of students can be intimidating at times. I am also sailing in the same boat as you. I have just embarked my teaching career and more often than not I end messing up my lectures. Initially, I was very embarrassed of my shortcomings as a teacher. But off late, I came to realize that there is a certain leaning curve in teaching and you only learn when you make mistakes. Making notes prior to the lecture, practicing your lecture in front of the mirror, running through your lecture among friends can help big time. The key is to not get nervous and having self belief. I know it is easier said than done. But eventually everything will fall in place. Be ready to embrace your failures. There will be quite a few goof ups in your initial lectures and you have to be brave and patient enough to go past them. I recently read this essay on public speaking and it did help me. Hope it helps you too. Good Luck!
  6. I think you should go with the letter of recommendation from the German professor, not just because you are applying to German universities but also the fact she knows you really well. Her letter would be more personal and honest, giving you an edge over the other applicants.
  7. Using numbers in your headlines ( like in listicles) and using interrogatory words like Why, What, Who etc are a few tricks that I know about coming up with great headlines. But Picture caption contest is actually a cool and unique way to develop headline writing skills.
  8. My advice to you is to get in touch with your professor and ask him kindly to explain what was wrong with your idea. Don't get disheartened or agitated until you hear his reason to shoot down your idea. This will not only help you understand the flaws in your idea but will also help you in dealing with criticism better.
  9. Check these sites out: Argument pool and Issue pool. And then, there is this and this. Hope you find the links helpful. Good luck! PS: It'd be wise to be prepared for surprises. These things are mostly unpredictable (5/10 times)
