  1. Hey no problem! I assumed that this was after you submitted all the apps. If the application isn't due yet, then you should definitely contact potential POIs! It could lead to door opening pre-interview phone/skype calls!
  2. Hi, I had one application that asked for a writing sample. You should probably aim to submit the best one closest to the research interests you outline in your PS. If it helps to know, I just submitted my 2 pg research proposal for something (mainly since it needed to be either 1st or sole authored and it was short).
  3. Personally I wouldn't unless you've had previous contact with them before. It's also late in the game and if you didn't get an invitation, it could just lead to awkward conversations.
  4. Hey, just curious but who is your POI for this? You can PM me if you'd like! Also, they'd probably understand that it's easy to overlook emails during the holiday. Don't sweat it!
  5. Hey guys, not sure if someone already asked this but how are you preparing for visiting weekends? What kind of questions are appropriate to ask the POI and current grad students prior to the interview?
  6. Hey Congrats on NYU! Would you mind sharing who your POI is?
  7. Who got the official invite for Dartmouth? Would you mind sharing who your PI is via PM?
  8. Hey congrats on your invites! Would you mind sharing who your POIs are?
  9. Thanks for starting this! I guess I'll be the first. Who got the Dartmouth PBS interview? Anyone want to claim?
  10. Who wants to claim that Dartmouth interview?
  11. Hey congrats! Me too! Who is your pi?
  12. Honestly I don't think you give enough information for anyone to advise you on what schools you should consider. Phd programs in psychology are very specific and competitive. That is, you usually have to have a very clear idea of what your research plans are and who you want to work with and so much of it is about fit. You might also need to get more research experience and more academic LORs.
  13. Depends on the school. I have a mix of both but I never listed more than two.
  14. This is some general advice on picking PIs based on research interest: Start with a recently published paper on the topic you're interested in. Look at who cites it, who they've cited. This is one of the easier ways to see who's currently doing this line of work. Check out their lab pages, check their google scholar page.
  15. I'm doing social/cognitive neuroscience programs. I think I posted (some of) my schools in one of these threads. We don't have any overlap with programs but I can maybe guess who you are applying to at Columbia. You can PM me to talk about who I want to work with etc.
  16. @VentureIntoNothingness That was fast (your response and your school)!
  17. @VentureIntoNothingness When was your application deadline/when did you submit?
  18. Like an hour each conversation? Sorry for asking so many detailed questions but I'm starting to get anxious about the process. I don't have the best academic background but I do have great research experience. I'm thinking it's not enough to make me a competitive applicant though.
  19. Can you be more specific when you say avg GRE?
  20. I don't think you need to worry for a masters program. Most people get their masters to boost their undergraduate GPA or if they majored in something other than Psychology, etc. People can get into most masters programs with GPAs less than a 3.0.
  21. Anyone applying to social neuroscience programs?
  22. Darn I guess having longer conversations with potential PIs prior to real interviews mean nothing? How were your skype conversations? I've had a few sykpe/phone calls and now I'm thinking they won't really help my chances!
