  1. I've gotten more money to BC, Case, and Chicago than WUSTL, but those are all super expensive schools so the savings aren't big enough for my to go to them over WUSTL. And cost of living is a lot higher (maybe not in Cleveland but the others). I still haven't gotten my Pitt scholarship in the mail, but I'm guessing that will be the best financially. But I just don't see myself there...
  2. Congratulations!!! In my heart, I think I've already committed to WUSTL I am going to spend all day March 9th visiting the school and hopefully sitting in on a class, etc. I think it's the perfect school for me and it's only a 5 hour drive from home, which is really nice. The loans do scare me. However, after talking to more people, I think working at least part time is realistic so that will help me during school. My loans won't be 6 figures, so that is one difference, but I think for me at this point I'd rather go to my dream school even if it's not the most viable financial option.
  3. Just checked online and I got in! No email yet and I don't see any scholarship information. I don't plan on going but I'm happy to at least have all my decisions in!
  4. Congrats! That means they must really want you!
  5. I haven't gotten a call...at least not yet. And not sure about Monday's email...hmmm very mysterious. But I'm glad we should be getting our scholarship offers soon.
  6. Meeee! This isn't my first choice, but I think it's a great school and will probably end up being them most financially viable. I'm hopefully going to visit after I get my scholarship information and then make my final choice!
  7. Thanks for posting that information, MorningJunky. I'm torn in my decision making... Program-wise, ranking, and location, WUSTL is the best choice for me. But it isn't the best choice financially. I have some hard decisions to make! Hopefully I'll get my pittsburgh scholarship offer and michigan acceptance/rejection soon. I am planning on visiting a few schools during my spring break in March and I think visiting the campus/city will help in my deciding factor.
  8. Also, very few programs require the GRE. The ones you mentioned do not.
  9. First of all, I don't think Yale has an MSW program? MSW programs are not very selective. I think Columbia accepts something like over 70% of the applicants. You shouldn't have a hard time getting in anywhere. The more experience you have volunteering is great, so if you have a chance to do a volunteering placement over the summer that connects with social work, that would be beneficial. Other than that, don't worry about it. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that Columbia and UPenn offer very little scholarship money for their MSW programs. I ended up not applying to either because I knew I couldn't afford to go. You can see the ones I applied to in my signature. Good luck! You'll do fine.
  10. From what I've heard, you probably won't know you've gotten a GA until you've already committed, might not even be until this summer. So that's annoying. However, there are a variety of positions available. I know of GAs at the Women's Resource Center, Montserrat Coalition (organization for low income students), and BC Neighborhood Center. I'm sure there are more. I'm not sure how competitive they are, but the sooner you contact them, the better (I'm sure).
  11. Ha nevermind, they must have gotten my message! Just got in
  12. Also I still haven't heard from UChicago. I was supposed to know last week...called today and left a voicemail for admissions. I think they've forgotten about me.
  13. Pittsburgh Update--I spoke to the admissions person and she said they're still planning on getting the scholarship letters out by Feb 15th or sooner. When you gets yours might depend on when you applied, but I'm assuming everyone who got their application in by the priority deadline will get their scholarship offer soon.
  14. Yeah, I don't think I'd be willing to carry debt around with me for that long. Ugh this process is hard!
  15. I've heard it's really hard to get the public service forgiveness so to not count on it. I wish the program were more affordable.
  16. Seriously?? UGH I WANT TO KNOW NOW.
  17. I know, it's very pricey. I am looking at direct practice, particularly in trauma. WUSTL's violence prevention program looks amazing and is one of the reasons it's my first choice.
  18. Hey! I would love to connect with others who are considering WUSTL for their MSW It's my first choice program-wise, but would be a major stretch financially. Has anyone visited?
  19. From what I've heard, MSW is more nationally respected and MFT is more accepted in certain parts of the country (West Coast). I think you could do well with either, but I would probably go for the MSW.
  20. Thank you so much for this info! It was really helpful. I haven't received my scholarship info yet (they said I would receive it by 2/15). As long as I get a good scholarship, it will probably be the most financially viable option for me. But I am in love with WashU in St. Louis so it's going to have some competition. I hope to visit Pittsburgh so I can see what I think of it for myself.
  21. I got in and received a scholarship. However, I think I'm probably crossing it off my list. It's not my top choice and even with scholarship, it would be a stretch for me financially. But really I don't know enough about the program! The head of the mental health concentration did call me and he was really nice.
  22. Oh my gosh I am so stupid! I saw their tuition on their website and thought that was per semester, not per year. Wow, their program is seriously so much more affordable than all the others! I haven't gotten a chance to visit either, yet. I've actually heard good things about living in each city, but don't know firsthand.
  23. Ha, spoke too soon! Just picked up my mail and found my scholarship offer! It was better than I expected but still not enough to make me stay.
