You're right, Cognitive programs are pretty diverse and this was tripping me up a bit during my application process as well. Not only do they vary quite a bit between programs but vary within programs as well. My program at Notre Dame (Cognition Brain and Behavior) varies quite a bit depending on your advisor. Some do behavioral work, most do EEG/TMS/eye tracking/fMRI. Classes also vary depending on your research interests, with a heavy emphasis on quant methods (even encourage our students to get a quant minor).
If this helps anyone, a number of faculty in my program will be recruiting this year. If you're interested or have any questions, feel free to PM me.
Here's a list of faculty I know will be recruiting (If you're interested in memory, this is definitely for you!):
Bradley S. Gibson - attention & working memory
Joshua Koen - memory & aging
James R. Brockmole - visual attention/memory
Jessica Payne - sleep/stress and memory
Good luck everyone!
