It's a top notch program, totally understand!! Rowdy is fun, as long as it doesn't seem nasty-which it doesn't. I am surprised so many results have appeared before Feb.!

Disclaimer** I HATE talking about my stats because I either feel pathetic or douchey. So upfront, I apologize for either way. I am almost 27, I had a V153, Q150, AWA 6. My letters, statement and thesis are strong. I have two pubs and four pending review. I have presented at 5 conferences and done international research. Plus other research and teaching experience. I'm horrible at tests. So do my strong points are definitely all my extras. I think everyone has more to offer than test scores. Critical thinking comes from a lot more than answering a fill in the blank question. Just my two cents!

Not yet, I still have 5 apps out with no decision, so I am waiting a little longer. But UCF did nominate me for a graduate fellowship, so I'm just weighing my options. I didn't think I would get into this many and have to decide. Good problem to have. For the record, my acceptances/funding options show that GRE is not everything!!!

I have heard this too. The idea is that going to a different school for at least one is that it shows you can succeed elsewhere, and not just because you were with the same faculty/people for all of it. I think also going multiple places shows you can get through applications and study under a variety of people. I don't know that it really matters, I've seen faculty who did all three at the same place just as professionally and academically successful as others.

Yes. I agree, it would be a dream. But I also have huge doubts I will ever accepted. Luckily I have been accepted to some crim programs. Did you apply to both?

@goofylemon sorry, poor wording. What I meant was, since a grad student told you unofficially that you were rejected, is it possible that they gave you misinformation/ thought you were someone else/ etc. Since you said you had nothing posted on portal yet....just thinking maybe it was a error on that students behalf telling you! Hope that makes more sense. Either way, I think you will end up somewhere great!

Thanks PhdinCrim2016! I will do that for the schools I haven't heard from! Just figure a few accepted pubs was worth mentioning. But who knows- worst case they just use my other cv.

Ahhh. Thank you for the info! I mainly applied to crim/CJ programs but met a prof. from Harvards soc program at a conference who suggested I apply. But I know very little about how soc programs are, just that he studies what I have/do/want too. i am sure you will be fine! Your stats are impressive!

Thanks! I hope past years are an indication of how it will turn out vs. how I feel. I am glad I have other accepts so I know I have somewhere! I just hate the stress of knowing if I don't get in, it was likely because of this. Wah wah, going to drink some wine to go with my whine.

@DaisyGamble I also only applied to one soc program that is a total reach, but fits my interests. I am highly doubtful I will be accepted (especially after seeing the boards today) but still would regret not applying! I think your experiences sound like the would be beneficial to a program! I applied to other non soc programs that are up my alley, and have heard from 3. I am going a little nuts waiting for all the apps to come back with decisions!!!

I may see y'all there too. And I am not sure, I am not declining any offers I have had until I hear from most of my other schools//funding. I have funding informally but with no monetary value listed and I don't want to decline until I hear about that because it is a big factor for me. So I will probably wait until late Feb to decline other offers. Is there a standard? Also, does anyone know what is acceptable for sending an updated CV? I submitted all my apps in early November and have had two accepted pubs since then, among other small things. Is it bad to send an update to schools who are already likely reviewing applications?

I am freaking a little too, Harvard is the only Soc program I applied to, as a complete long shot, I was not aware they interviewed// do most Soc programs interview?
