  1. KnowVac, I applied to the following schools: FSU, UF, UCF, USF, GSU, USC, George Mason, Harvard, UTDallas CrimQueen: my George Mason portal says the same thing.
  2. KnowVac, thanks for the info!! I have heard both the standard, "we got your app" and other emails from all schools I applied to (except USC). Most of them asking how funding packages would be preferred, signing docs about funding and telling me when I will hear back from them. BUT none of that was acceptances or guaranteed funding. And I have heard from two schools requesting skype interviews now. I have heard informally about funding from UF. Partinrn, congrats!!! FSU informed me that funding decisions will be made mid-Feb which is pretty common for them.
  3. Anyone (KnowVac?) know about USC (South Carolina)? Deadline was a while ago, but have not heard anything from them. They are the ONLY program I applied to that I have not heard even an email from. Curious about the timeline. I know past years people heard early Feb. but if anyone has any information I would be interested to hear it!
  4. Ugh I feel for y'all. I hope everyone here who applied to JJ gets an interview. fingers crossed!!!! I can't imagine waiting that long to hear from a top choice school of mine. But patience is not my virtue.
  5. I also received an informal acceptance from UF, about a week ago. From those in current and past cohorts at UF that I know, this is pretty standard for them- so try not to stress (easier said than done). Congrats!!! Do you think you will go visit? UF is one of my top choices so I am definitely going to visit. BUT I'm stressing until I hear from everywhere I've applied.....can't help it.
  6. Partinrn, I don't know too much but I do know they do their comps after the first year and the girl I know who went there a few years ago did not pass comps. Apparently the faculty did not really help her at all and she was expected to be a work horse but was not given any guidance for comps. I don't know how founded this is as this was out of her mouth after she did not pass on both attempts- so take it with a grain of salt. I know IUP is also much more teaching focused and less research focused. Sorry I have no idea if this was helpful or not, but just the only information I know about IUP.
  7. Congrats, Partinrn! Its a good feeling knowing that we have somewhere to go! I did not apply to Albany so no idea KnowVac, hope you hear good news soon!
  8. ThesisTerror, completely understand that! Orlando is crazy. Im glad your interview went well! Fingers crossed you hear soon, but I am sure you will be ok! I agree, waiting to hear may be more stressful than applying.....I've heard from two places but I applied to nine so I'm anxious still. Hope we all hear soon!
  9. Personally, though I am definitely biased, I do not think you will regret furthering your education. Not only will it give you expansion on what you already know, but selfishly having someone who is a practitioner in the field being able to give ideas and suggestions is great. I always remind myself that education is one of the few things in life that once you earn, no one can take away. Cincinnati is a fantastic school and program and I think it speaks volumes that you applied and got accepted. If money is the concern, have you looked at if your department will sponsor you? Otherwise there are a good amount of grants for active government agents to apply for. I say go for it! : ) If you want any information on where to find grants for service members, PM me and I will send you some links! Good luck!
  10. Partinrn, it shows right under which semester applied for but above your transcripts and test scores. It may be that because I applied so early, they are doing rounds of looking them over? I turned in my applcation in early November, so I don't know if that has any bearing on the quick decision from the deadline.
  11. how did the UCI interview go?! And is there any reason you did not apply to UCF?
  12. Oh nice!!! All great schools! I'm sure you'll get in, if you want any info on living in the IN area PM me! That's around where I grew up. I hope we all hear soon, but from prior years it seems late Jan thru Feb is more likely.
  13. Totally understand. Same here, checking my email constantly!! Yes, I was. No word on funding yet though, which is a large part of my decision. However, I am glad to know I am in somewhere! Arent you going to UCI interview this weekend? Good luck if you are!!! I'm sure it will go great!
  14. KnowVac, I turned mine in early, but I am pretty sure (95%) the deadline was Jan 1. for FSU. Did you end up applying to FSU? Have you heard from anywhere else?
  15. Sorry for the double post, I just wanted to let everyone know that FSU's application status page has decisions.
  16. Good luck ThesisTerror! I'm sure the interview will go great. I also applied to UCF, being a new program I think the chance of being funded is more likely. I know everyone last year (first cohort) got fully funded. Every faculty I talked to from UCF was really excited about growing their program and even sent follow up emails. Just the waiting game. again, good luck at UCI!
  17. Very cool! I presented at ASC this year and found it very interesting but also very overwhelming. The size is so much bigger than the regional/ACJS but I'm glad I went. I do not have anything to add about biosocial, but do have a friend at Penn State (see reference above) who studies biosocial criminology. Sounds like a great area!
  18. Penny: yes it is nice to know that everyone gets funded with enough to live on without a lot of stress. I did not apply there. The majority of you all have slightly higher GRE results than I do, so I am a little more nervous. Did anyone attend ASC/regional conferences this year?
  19. I just found this thread. I have applied to a bunch of programs and have heard from UTDallas and George Mason that I should know a decision the second week of January. I have not heard from anywhere else yet. Just a FYI for Penn State, everyone is funded (it is one of their strong points) and the person I know who is new to the program received over 23k a year, full tuition and fees, plus extra stipends for conference attendance and summer. So to me that doesn't seem small, but I guess it depends what you are coming from/where in location/etc. Good luck to everyone! I hope we all hear soon!
