And now my waiting is complete...Vandy interview invite this morning for 03/04! 

OMG ITS FINALLY HAPPENING! ACCEPTED TO WUSTL DBBS!!!!! 
I actually can't believe my ears. Just got a call from my favorite POI congratulating me for getting in and hoping that i'd actually join and work in her lab. I am, then, actually going to go to graduate school this fall. I need to sit back and let this sink in completely 
Ahh such a confidence boost. I'll be heading to other interviews with such peace of mind that I have something in my pocket. Onto Yale now.

OMG so excited.  I love that they do rolling acceptances because now all the other schools are competing to wow me as much as Vandy did.  Amazing school.  I'M GOING TO GRAD SCHOOL

I just discovered a new first world problem... I got a phone call this morning with a caller ID that read St. Louis, MO. I had a mild panic attack thinking it was WashU. But then I remembered I live in St. Louis and it was just Walgreens calling to let me know my prescription is ready. I need a sedative now. 

Good thing I'm going to the pharmacy. 

Anyone else wake up this morning and check their email, as if an invite might've gone out overnight?

Well in your situation it will look poor because you asked for the alternate, and are now switching not because you originally had a conflict, but because now you do have a conflict with a new school. They might realize this, but they might be okay with changing it up as long as all the spots in that original interview date aren't filled. Either way, trying to change it at this point won't harm you as much as it may make the admins handling the stuff a bit more busy.

An update about Stanford Biosciences: I called up to the main office and they said that most departments are finalizing their reviews this week so if you don't get anything this week from your department, it's not unlikely that they will send out invites next week, too. 

Total guess, but they probably just have people who can't attend the second date and have filled the first date already, so they want to try to get anyone they can to switch to even out the numbers.  I wouldn't be worried. 

For anyone who applied to Baylor IMBS... I emailed the program administrator and the person told me that applications are still being reviewed and final decisions will not be made until the end of January. It sounds as if I'm somewhere in the waitlist, since I didn't get an invite in the first wave, nor did I hear a rejection. Anyways, there's hope! 

It was me! Yay! Haha.

Thanks for the info, I haven't checked the results database in a while.. doesn't look like many/any other international applicants have heard yet either . Congrats to your daughter on the interviews!
On another note, I just received my first interview invite! It was in the form of an email from a professor at the University, arranging a skype interview and asking when I'd be available. Any idea of what kind of interview this will be? will I have to read up on his publications etc? It wasn't anyone I mentioned in my SOP, so is it likely just to be a more informal chat kind of deal?

Just called the office for regular immunology (not microbio), she'll tell you readily whether you got invited or not based on first name (I got invited...so pumped, dream school). Look for the number under "program manager". Best of luck!

Spoke with someone in the Biology Department at MIT yesterday afternoon, she said that interview invites should go out by the end of this week, and that the program will suggest one weekend of the three due to faculty availability, research interest, etc.
Also with regard to the timing of submission... I submitted all of my apps Nov. 30th, and one of my letters was received after the due date. It hasn't seemed to have negatively impacted me.

OH FFS. I just called my boss (I work at a Seattle biotech company and he is well connected and wrote a letter of recommendation) to talk business and he answered with "Hi Doctor!" to which I said something like "HJVHJVHGYTVHGDGR DO YOU KNOW SOMETHING" and no, he does not know anything. NOT COOL MAN
