    Wait, you're choosing an unfunded masters program over a PhD program basically because of your boyfriend? Wow! You didn't say what your career goals are but, if they involve academia at all, I wouldn't pay attention to what's on LinkedIn. Also, no amount of networking is going to make up for the debt you'll accrue during that 2 year master's program.

    I agree completely. Above everything else, you have to do what's best for you. Turning down a program for a boyfriend, regardless of how "serious" it is is just not smart. If it's meant to be, it'll work out. Do you!

    I don't think you need to go heavy on the emotion. They should know its a possibility that you will choose another school or not go to grad school at all. I would just say
    "Dear Dr. X,
    Thank you for taking the time to talk to me and show me around the program. This program and the people within it are wonderful scholars and people. I'm emailing to inform you however, that I have chosen another school for my graduate studies. I look forward to future correspdonce and seeing you at future conferences."
    Sincerely,
    @ciistai

    Don't do PhD unfunded. Paying tuition for PhD is sort of like paying tuition for med school, except you'll quite possibly be unemployed at the end instead of making 6 figures.

    If you don't love New York, then maybe you shouldn't go to school there.

    My entertainment this evening consisted of two coworkers arguing on our work Facebook page until the general manager shut it down. I'd like to thank them for making the time pass a little faster tonight.
    Still no news on what could make or break my future though!

    For some reason I thought it would be clever to use Leslie Knope's last name but to take all the vowels out. I must have been very tired haha

    mschanandlerbong got a reaction from grad29 in How much in student loans do you have going into grad school?
    (1) Less than $2,000 as I'm finishing up my last semester. I've been very lucky to receive almost $20,000 in scholarships from my school's Alumnae Association over three years as well as to have received a healthy college fund from my grandfather when he passed away (it also helped that I was his only grandchild at the time, so I got all the money).
    (2) I'm hoping to go to a funded program but if I go to an unfunded master's program I expect to have to take out loans. I don't know how much, though. That's a worry for another day.
    (3) $0 in credit card debt, ~$2,000 in savings but I'm probably going to have to use that on rent over the next year. I work a part time job to pay for internet and basically just to get by.
    (4) $60,000 I think

    He just emailed me back saying he likes what he saw and a smiley face... I dont know if he's referring to my paper or the photo, but I can take a guess. Should I follow up with a pic of my asshole?

    I've been emailing back and forth with a POI. Today, he asked me send him a paper I'd written on a specific project we'd been discussing that was pretty similar to research he had underway on bioelectronics. So I attached the file to an email and sent it over. But about half a second after I pressed send, I got this horrible feeling. I went to my sent mail folder to check, and I was right - I had accidentally sent him a picture of my penis instead. How do I even go about apologizing for this? And even if I do, is this relationship salvageable? Fuck!!
