Well, I had assumed that all notifications would be sent out at around the same time, maybe with a slight gap. I can understand the frustration -- especially since I felt the same way on Friday. In any case, I clearly didn't anticipate the level of scepticism that followed. I guess we could have pulled off such a troll if we really wanted to, but it seems unlikely and would be a pretty nasty thing to do. I'm pretty sure it isn't alphabetically by name since I doubt I would have been notified in that case (of course, I can't support it without posting things that I don't want to).

That seems hard to believe, especially given the downvotes on posts by those who won the award. Anyone who thinks this is an elaborate setup by trolls is just being paranoid. That said, it does seem possible that some award notifications have not been sent yet.

Actually, you can accept both. The way it works is you use the NDSEG for the first 3 years while using the two reserve years of the NSF and forfeiting the the third year of the NSF, Then you use the remaining 2 years of the NSF so it works out to 5 years of funding.

I am sure that grad student apartments are a lot better than a dorm. However, you still need to be careful since some apartments near campus (like mine) can still be noisy due to a combination of the following factors: Idiots screaming late at nightNoisy garbage trucks that wake you up at 7:00am more than once per week (don't get an apartment at the end of the building that the garbage truck comes to)Sirens (try not to be close to hospitals / emergency services / busy roads; nearby pubs are also a problem)Thin walls / noisy neighbors who come and go at 2:00am or even laterInept management that is unable or unwilling to address noise problems and is dishonest until after you have moved in (remember that the management may have an incentive to lie when you visit)An ancient building that was constructed in the stone age and has no air conditioning when it gets to be 100 degrees during the Summer Beware! University run apartments are not immune to these issues. You also should take the time to find somewhere good rather then selecting a place in a hurry like I did and ending up somewhere you hate until your lease runs out. Good luck.

Yeah, the GRE search service is pretty much worthless... When I registered for it I was mostly solicited by places of a lower calibar than I was looking for despite my high scores. A lot of the solicitations were even for diferent fields than the one I wanted to study! If I did it over I wouldn't bother with the GRE search service.

Seems their ranking is based on reputation and "statistical indictors" http://www.usnews.co...e-numbers.html. Anyway, if you are going to look at rankings its better to go with a ranking that has some chance of being done properly than one we know is wrong.
