  1. There's nothing wrong with disagreeing with someone or contradicting their point, but when you use their application status - a subject that could already be a source of dejection - as a means to personally attack them, that is when you've crossed the line. Let's all keep a civil tone here. Yes, there are many purposes to this forum, but overall, this should be a place of respectful dialogue and sharing - not shameless bickering that tears others down.
  2. Perhaps this is a bit of a silly question, but in your opinion, how much does a school's name and ranking matter when choosing a Ph.D. program (especially when looking for teaching/curatorial jobs after graduation)? Is it better to choose 1. A program that is not very highly ranked but has good funding, faculty, and atmosphere or 2. A program that is more prestigious but not a great fit?
  3. It looks like they usually get back to applicants at the end of February and beginning of March, so I'm sure it will be any day now. It's hard to be patient sometimes though!
  4. I was one of the U of C applicants that was referred to the MAPH program. My situation is a bit peculiar, because I have a BFA and MFA in studio art. So technically I have a master's degree already, although it's in a different field.
  5. I have the same situation. So far, I've still addressed my POIs as "Professor ..." or "Dr. ..." to be polite. Even though they've been using their first names in their signatures, I think it's best to wait until they say in person that they prefer to be called by their first names to start doing so.
  6. @m-artman Yep, just got the email myself. Thought it was a good fit, but a bit of a long shot I suppose. Sigh...2 down, 10 to go for me! Good luck, everyone.
  7. Also, congrats to the Berkeley waitlist! Has anyone else heard from them?
  8. @therealdealpikkel As other responses have stated, I think interviews all depend on the school. So far, I've gotten accepted into one Ph.D. program without an interview, but I know that there are some universities that interview all of the candidates that they're considering. It's hard to guess sometimes! P.S. I've also been feeling the pain of the waiting game. I've been checking this site and my email at least ten times a day, and I've definitely noticed a few more grey hairs from this application experience. Hopefully we'll all get some responses within the next few weeks!
  9. In response to lasirko, it was Ohio State University. I also applied to UPenn!
  10. Hello all! Just joined the thread. I just graduated with an MFA in visual art but decided to pursue a degree in art history. I'm interested in studying contemporary art, specifically new media, and I've applied to 10 Ph.D. and 2 M.A. programs. Also...today, I just heard back from my first school asking me to visit for an open house with top applicants! Woohoo! Best of luck to everyone. Hope we all hear some good news.
