  1. For those still looking for housing, the community housing page has been extremely helpful.
  2. I never received a decision from UW. I decided to go to another school, but I find it extremely inconsiderate that after spending time and money on an application, they would not even let me know about my admission status.
  3. I did too, and I declined their offer a few days ago...
  4. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to write a letter that declines an offer?
  5. Any suggestions of places within walking distance that are cheap (less than $1000 per person)?
  6. @Windmills It should be in your offer letter- the letter you got when you were accepted
  7. To current grad students- what types of things do you wish you had known/ asked when you were deciding what school to attend? Thanks!
  8. @geophys UT's prospective student weekend was a few weeks ago, so they should begin sending out the second round of acceptances soon as people turn down UT. Good luck!
  9. Oh, I thought you were a regular MS student, and my advice was directed at that situation. Best of luck!
  10. @Windmills When I visited, they told me that MS students defend. If you've been accepted/ waiting, you should email your potential adviser to get the details.
  11. There is a grad student in my department who did his undergrad in anthropology (he is doing a PhD in petrology now). He took a year off and took a bunch of geology and science/ math courses. I think that would be the best IF you don't get in.
  12. Anyone going to UCLA's prospective student weekend? Any advice from previous attendees?
  13. Michigan has sent out their first round of acceptances.
  14. @ScrewLeucite UT Austin got 750 applications this year, which is higher than normal. When I talked with my potential adviser, he said that there are a higher number of applications this year because of issues with oil.
  15. Hi guys, I will be visiting a grad school on Thursday and Friday. I am currently trying to compile a list of questions to ask while there, and I wondered if you guys have any suggestions. I have the basic ones, but can you guys think of any more specific to geology or ones that people don't normally ask. Thanks!
  16. The same thing happened to me, and I was just admitted to the program but I will be co-advised by both of them. Where is it? In general- is this a normal thing to happen?
  17. @GeoInsane I've had that message for a few days- I don't think it means anything important. Kind of weird that they put it up though.
  18. @klippe @SickSlickensides Alison Duvall is, unfortunately, not taking students
  19. Hey, how do you know there are a lot of apps at Austin this year?
  20. I actually applied to Washington... haha. Anyway, your GRE scores are average for Austin, at least according to the things I found published by UT. I also applied at UT; who do you want to work with? This means they probably won't help or hurt you. As for your letters of rec, most professors say nice things. And your letter of intent, what issues did you think you had?
  21. You can also apply to national fellowships like those through NSF and the DoD.
