  1. I heard today that at least one person has received an invitation. I'd assume they've all gone out, but I don't know that for sure.
  2. The interview process at NEU is super relaxed. You'll never get grilled with questions or even feel like you're in an interview really. It's mostly just chatting with professors; as I said before I think it's mostly about fit at this stage. One specific piece of advice I can provide is that a million people will ask you what your research interests are, and it will make your life easier if you have a 1-2 sentence answer prepared.
  3. I don't know how to evaluate whether or not Northeastern is hard to get into, but I can give you some background info. If I'm remembering correctly, they told us there were about 100 applicants last cycle. They selected 12 applicants to come out for an interview weekend (though they won't call it that). The description of the MSU interview earlier in this thread is consistent with my experience at NEU. Of those they accept 6, and then the remaining 6 were put on the waitlist. I think that at the interview stage it's more about fit than anything. I know people who got into places like Cincinnati and Maryland who weren't accepted to Northeastern. On the bright side, turn around on apps should be pretty quick. Visiting week is in late February I hear.
  4. There's gonna be a huge variance among your list of schools of what they're looking for. Just do the best that you can. For reference though, this article has admitted students gre scores, but it's for PhD students and a bit out of date: http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/10511250601144258
  5. An interactive variable is a variable that affects the relationship between two other variables, and the direction or strength of that effect varies by quantity/quality of the interactive variable. So if C=1, A has a positive effect on B. But if C=2, A has a negative effect on B.
  6. Claiming a SUNY Albany acceptance. It's my first one and it feels sooo good to know I will be going somewhere in the fall!
  7. Same. So far all I've gotten is a rejection from Wisconsin and an interview with the Northeastern criminology department. It sucks cause every school I've applied to except for one has started accepting people, and a few are on their second wave already. Would just like to get all the rejections over with, already convinced they're coming.
  8. Bingo. One of those was me, received an initial email last sunday and got all the info today.
  9. Anyone else going to visit Northeastern at the end of the month? I was convinced that it was gonna be this big formal interview, but if it's only an hour of 1-on-1 meetings and we get to choose who we meet with, I'm thinking it's probably not gonna be that big of a deal? This is the only school I've heard good news from so I'm starting to get pretty nervous already.
  10. Nope. It's as small time as it gets, only open to students at the mid-level university I recently earned my BA from. I'm glad to get the experience, but I don't really see it impressing anyone.
  11. That makes a lot of sense. Keeping my fingers crossed that the first wave has yet to go out. I got word today that I've been selected to present at my department's annual conference in March. I already mentioned on my applications that I had been nominated, is it worth emailing the programs I have yet to hear back from? It probably won't make that much of an impact but maybe it's worth it?
  12. Is that one acceptance the only reason that people have been anticipating a response from UW? They sent out an email saying that they wouldn't have a decision until February, but people on here have been talking about it for a week or two now.
  13. Wisconsin emailed me about my personal statement 6 times and they all went into my spam box. The 7th time it went into my normal email and I got it all squared away. I haven't really worried about it since, but I was pretty pissed initially.
  14. The only crim program I applied to was Northeastern, where I have an interview at the end of February. Kind of wish I applied to more, but it's too late for that. Where are you hoping to end up?
  15. Sampson? My interests are similarly between soc and crim, and I think working with him would be a dream come true.
