  1. MACK!!! you have eased my mind!! Thank you, I feel like a weight has lifted from my shoulders!! Best wishes and I hope you get off that waiting list!! Any news?
  2. Mack!! You are always here to make me feel better!! Thank goodness for our little online support group!! When did you convocate if you don't mind me asking? (apparently a degree isn't official until that ceremony...)and how did you prove to Waterloo that you had graduated? I know that sounds sort of strange, but i'm scared without the official degree convocated I won't be eligible.
  3. Hi, Thank you so much for your response, I needed to hear this. I was crying so much yesterday, my partner didn't know what to do. I have anxiety so I am really good at catastrophizing. I keep thinking that I will get into my dream school and this is what will prevent me from going. I just want to be a social worker so bad and I feel this process has been really trying... I will definitely go to my school convocation office monday morning and address the situation and plea my case.
  4. Hey guys, I am in a really bad position right now, I spent the last day crying. So basically, I applied to graduate about a month ago, but apparently the request didn't go through and now it is past the deadline to apply. I have read in certain areas of my school website that I can go and talk to convocation office about submitting after the deadline but on other parts of the school website it says that March 11th is the last day to submit. I am lost and confused, all of my credits will be done by the end of April. Therefore I should be convocating in June. However, what happens if I can't resubmit my application to graduate? UGH. Does anyone know what the rules are regarding this, can I enter a graduate/post grad program before I convocate IF all of my courses are done and I have been approved by my schools to graduate? The next convocation is October. Advice please... I am inconsolable right now...
  5. Hey Sam, I needed this reminder as well haha! I met with the University of Waterloo yesterday and have basically been promised a spot in their 5 term part time BSW program. However, I am feeling really, unsure right now as it will take longer than the full time program by two terms, but it is a sure thing. I am feeling pretty defeated about doing another bachelors degree but I know that this experience will enable me to go to graduate school. ( That is if all fails with the 2 year Laurier.) haha everything is so up in the air at this point.
  6. Just reminding everyone and myself, that we all have a path... this path will lead us where we need to go. Don't compare yourself to others. xx
  7. I am currently waitlisted for a 3 term bsw at Waterloo - the waitlist is tiny ( only 12 ppl) so I am mildly hopeful, also I am going to the school today to talk to someone about doing a 5 term part time bsw. You will definitely get higher paying jobs with a MSW and probably allot more opportunity. I want to work as a therapist and hopefully integrate art into my practice by running groups and such. However, a BSW opens doors, it will allow you to learn more about social work, get better/more suited references to apply to grad school with. Also you can get more jobs in the social service field in the mean time. I likely wouldn't depend on a BSW to build a career on, but I think it is a good step towards my ultimate goal of getting an MSW.
  8. No problem, i'm glad I could help. I am certainly already preparing to make my application better and apply next year. It is hard to know what each schools values but I think by either taking a 1 year BSW program and or gaining more experience I can be in a better situation. Although I would love to get in, I am kinda planning for the worst case scenario ( I tend to do that haha)
  9. Hey, I did not apply to U of T because to be honest Toronto makes my anxiety sky rocket haha !! But, I think your application sounds great!! Your GPA is unreal, and I think that your experience in a retirement home will serve your application well. Do you want to focus on geriatrics? Everyone is lacking something, very few of us are perfect, if my case I think my number of hours is mediocre but the experiance is great and unique! I come from studio art so I had no chance at getting research experiance. This might hurt me, I am not sure! However, I think they accept people from all different backgrounds because they do want different types of social workers! Don't be hard on yourself, where there is a will there is a way
  10. Does anyone know if Laurier also has rounds!!?
  11. amazing!! Thanks for asking, not excited to keep waiting but now we have an idea of when we can expect to hear back. So is that the week of April 5th? Or the following week... april technically starts next Friday, so it is still a little confusing!!!
  12. Hey Guys, if anyone is rejecting an acceptance to u waterloo for BSW let me know so I can feel better about being waitlisted !! <3 haha
  13. Does anyone know how behind u of t, laurier usually is in giving offers ? You would think that it would be a disadvantage to be so far behind all other schools...
  14. Congrats !! I think I will cry if I get into Laurier as well, but I still have some waiting to do! Dreams come true!!!
  15. UGH, I am losing all patience now haha! Hoping 2 year laurier releases decisions early, but doubtful
  16. yay! thats amazing, it says they accept 60-70 students!! So that is less than half!! EEEeee!! I am trying not to get my hopes up haha
  17. Hey thanks, I know that the waiting list is 12 people, its for a one year bsw, so I am kinda hoping allot of people reject that as well because they will likely get accepted into 2 year msw programs! What is considered a small waitlist if you don't mind me asking
  18. Congrats on the waitlist!! Where did you find out that they accept most waitlisters? I am really trying to hold onto hope to my waitlist at waterloo haha,,.
  19. omg, I feel like I have been waiting for laurier for foreeeveeerrrrr!!! The waiting is the worst part of applying. I wish they could just tell you if you don't make the cut and rip off the bandaid fast haha!! I've already been waitlisted for Waterloo and to me that just feels like being asked to wait even longer hahaha
  20. Congrats! where were you accepted? That must be a nice relief! Maybe contact the schools and tell them the situation, let them know that they are you first choice ( if they are) and you would like to know your status at there schools before accepting or declining another offer. OR contact the school that has accepted you and ask for an extension... that might go over less well.
  21. Does anyone know why schools do "rounds" of admissions?
  22. Hey, Thank you for your kindness. Unfortunately since the art classes I have taught are not very long (1-2 hours) I have only accumulated a limited amount of hours in this, I hope that doesn't look bad on me. There is so much to consider!! Your experience sounds great!! WOW, what is your undergrad in? I have had a really hard time getting jobs in the field because my degree is in Studio Art. I think they are really looking for people with Northern perspectives ! Amazing that you are moving toward art therapy, I have really never seen a therapy that works better with the people I work with. Even the most severe cases of schizophrenia that I have seen have responded amazingly well to art therapy. Maybe ( fingers crossed) we can work together at Laurier developing alternative therapies haha!!
  23. Sorry to answer your question, they state on their website that "a competitive applicant will have over 3500 hours of social service experience"
  24. Hey yay! You have made me feel allot better, thank you! I have heard they are REALLY hours focused... last year I read all of this stuff about them not accepting less than 4000. But, as you said that seems kinda short sighted... considering some people applying are coming straight from undergrad. I am a support worker at a residential home, I provide emotional support and distribute medication to individuals who suffer from schizophrenia, I also teach therapeutic art classes to individuals who suffer from severe mental illness and have shadowed an art therapist who worked with women who have endured sexual abuse. I am not sure if that counts as being "in the field" haha. What is your experience like?
  25. amazing! Do you have any advice for future applicants?
