  1. Hey, That is amazing!! I know that you were asking about the MSW program, I applied to the BSW program at Waterloo so hopefully this means everyone will find out a little earlier! The waiting is killing me!
  2. Hi andwewait, I am sorry to hear about Laurier, but it is amazing that you are about to start a wonderful new adventure in windsor!! YOU ARE GOING TO BE A SOCIAL WORKER! Be proud of yourself
  3. Hey LP3, I am also applying to Laurier and also have less experience than what they are after Only by100 hours!!! It is really difficult to get soo many hours. Your experience does sound pretty diverse and original though! I am also having a really hard time not selling myself short because of my lack of hours, but i would hope if we are the right people for the school they will make exceptions! Best of luck with your applications!
  4. Hi KatRousi, I totally feel your pain. I feel as if schools expect us to be perfect and do everything right while giving us very little lee-way to be human. I think that they definitely should have informed you that your referee did not submit the form. Maybe it was even a mistake on their end? With the system? Could you ask your referee to e-mail them if they said that they did submit it? IF your referee could verify maybe they would look at your application? I totally know how you feel though, I feel as if my luck with applications has been horrible. I feel as if I have been messing up at least once on each application. From what I have experienced schools are sometimes willing to make exceptions if you state your case. So maybe it would be worth a try getting your referee to talk to the school. Definitely double check all of your documents for other schools and if you see any problems contact them immediately!
  5. omg exactly. Thank you so much for understanding! I am totally annoying my friends and family with these thoughts... its wild. But yes, you are totally right. We NEED to focus on this semester, the here and now. Maybe we should just forget about it until April? Anything we hear earlier is just a pleasant surprise!! What are you applying for? PS. if anyone else is applying for the 1 year BSW at Waterloo, applications are being reviewed as we speak.
  6. Is this waiting game killing anyone else? I am having a really hard time focusing on my current semester I hope to hear something soon but I know that is probably unrealistic...
  7. Is anyone else applying to the BSW at Dalhousie or has anyone ever taken the online BSW? I am really excited about the application that I just submitted for this program. I think it was by far my best personal statement. I wish my Laurier personal statement was a little better..but what can you do? ahah
  8. Congratulations ! That is amazing! I am not sure whether they will care or not, I have heard they are really strict, but its worth a shot I guess? Basically Waterloo allows you to obtain a BSW if you have the proper perquisites in only one year! So a) I could get more experience through practicum and b ) I will be able to gain more knowledge about social work. I could also benefit from raising my CGPA a little, its decent but definitely not a 4.0.
  9. Hey, Laurier accepts roughly 90 applicants and 600 people apply. Acceptances usually begin in April we still have a long way to go!!
  10. Hey Phogan, For Msw I have only applied to Laurier, I would like to stay local and I love the concept of being in such a small program! The building is a cute old building in downtown, close to many social service agencies! However, I really don't think I have enough hours of experience I worked my butt off and I have only obtained roughly 3400 hours and I know that Laurier likes 3500 so I am feeling a little down on myself. I have also applied for two post degree bsw programs one at Waterloo and one at Dalhousie ( it is online which I am still unsure about.) I see you applied to a few other schools what is your first choice?
  11. Hi, no I am wondering about the 10 month bachelor of social work program at Waterloo. I know that this is a masters degree forum. However, I thought since we are all looking to study social work some people may have information about the one year bachelor of social work at Waterloo.
  12. Hi guys, I know I have probably posted this before but if anyone is applying or has attended the post grad bsw at Waterloo can you pretty please personal message me. I have allot of questions and I am finding it hard to find the information I need. Ie. When offers of admission will go out
  13. Wow Phogan, that sounds like allot of great experience. Were all of your positions full time? did you take time off between undergrad and graduate school. My experience is not nearly as extensive. I have been working at a residential home with individuals who suffer from severe mental illness particularly schizophrenia and bi polar for about 1.5 years full time. As well, I worked as an art instructor at a non profit organization for about 4 months full time (two summers.) I worked at various mental health organizations as a therapeutic art instructor and I have worked as a tutor through a counseling center for disadvantaged youth. Other than this, I was a camp counselor for two summers. I am thinking that I will need to take some time off to build experience, may I ask you what your undergraduate degree is in?
  14. Is anyone applying to Laurier 2 year MSW? What is your experience like? I am super stressed out about not having an adequate amount
  15. Does anyone know my chances of being accepted to U of Waterloo for a BSW in social work? I know that they only accept 30 students per semester but I am unsure of how many applicants they get for the BSW degree. Thank you for your help!
  16. Awe thank you for your faith! Do you know what your friend's average and hours of experience were? Its just so intimidating that they only let in 30 individuals per semester!
  17. Hi, Thanks for your input. I live in Waterloo Ontario, so I would be doing a placement in Waterloo or Kitchener I would hope. I have volunteered at various social service institutions within my community so hopefully I could find a proper placement here. I have applied to the MSW at Laurier and the BSW at University of Waterloo as well. Unfortunately these two programs are super competitive so Dalhousie is sort of my back up plan!
  18. Has anyone attended Dalhousie online ? I was just wondering about the experience of taking a bachelors of social work online. What was your experience with placement?
  19. Hi everyone I have enjoyed reading this forum and decided I would join in. I am applying to the 2 year MSW at Laurier as well as the 10 month BSW at Waterloo. I have a studio art degree and psychology minor. I became interested in how art could be used as a therapeutic tool as well as a mode to build self esteem in people with mental illness. I am feeling really unconfident, I feel I am VERY average my GPA in the last 10 credits is 81%. I have a 79% overall GPA, I did not do well in first year which lowered my average (like many others I am sure.) I have been working at a group home as a support worker for people who suffer from severe mental illness (mainly schizophrenia and bi-polar) for almost two years. I have experience as a therapeutic art instructor to people with mental illness (however with school and work I only obtained a limited amount of hours through this.) I also shadowed an art therapist who works with people who have been victims of abuse. I have also worked as a camp counsellor and a tutor for children who come from low income areas. I only have around 2400 hours of experience which I know is bellow Laurier's expectations. I am really hoping that my personal statement and unique experience and interest in art therapy will set me apart but I am unsure. I know this forum is for people who are applying to the MSW, but does anyone have any info on Waterloo's bsw? Ie. how many people they accept? Also does anyone know if laurier ever accepts people with under 2500 hours? I know i'm ready to become a social worker, I just haven't had time to achieve that amount of experience.
