Canadian Universities MSW. The waiting game 2016 admissions
CalendarGirl replied to MSW&MD's topic in Social Workers Forum
Hey people who applied to Laurier what is your experience like? I feel my experience is REALLY unique and highly focused on mental health, but I am feeling soo down because I have 100 hours short of what they want. I am beginning to feel as if I shouldn't have even bothered getting my hopes up by applying. -

I think that is a good idea, I might treat it as a rejection as well...but allow it to give me a little bit of a confidence boost. I am going to ignore quest until April haha -

Hey I feel your pain, I was wait listed at UW! Do you know how big the waitlist is? You could still have a chance... there are only 12 people on my waitlist for UW! Maybe e-mail and ask? This means they like you, if you apply again I bet you will have a really good chance of getting in! definitely better than a rejection. But I know, now we keep waiting....*HUGS* -

Congrats!!! I am considering applying for that program next year if all fails this year!! Do you know what their focus is? I know some schools are better for clinical which is really what I would like to focus on. -

Found out that the waitlist for my program is "roughly a dozen" and I should know about movement in early April! Let us hope that yours is just as small... or smaller -

Yes, I agree... it could do something.... I want to know how large the wait list is! haha we will see if Laura answers my e-mail regarding that! She is not disclosing the ranking....do any of the schools disclose this? -

Hey guys, I was reading that certain professors and admissions staff suggest that if are wait listed you should try to write a letter to admissions of choice explaining how passionate you are about the school and any recent achievements. What are your thoughts? is this in bad form? Has this worked for anyone? -

Hey Mack, I am not sure! But I know that they are accepting applications in May for a January start! Maybe they are accepting 30 students per semester this time? I am really unsure of how this works. I find the Waterloo BSW website lacks allot of information! -

Thank you so much I truly appreciate it. I felt I had the weakest application for this one because they use my overall CGPA and I didn't write about my experience using art therapy which was probably silly now that I know how much schools value diversity in experience. I am really hoping to go to school next year! Thank you for encouragement! xx -

Hey Mack! Yes BIG HUGS haha waitlist is bittersweet, you know that they like you, you know that you are doing things right, but you are not in yet! haha I am weighing the cost and benefits of applying to the bsw for winter semester. It is nice that they have this option! I was also thinking it would give me some time to work on perquisites as well. Honestly, I believe that this was my weakest and most rushed application so I am trying to feel okay about it. Do you think I could contact the faculty before I apply to the winter semester and ask them which parts of my application were weak? -

I feel the same girl!! I hope we both get into laurier! Its such a hard place, to know that you are meant for this job but be in such a state of flux... it just feels so out of my hands right now.. but the more schools we apply to the more options we have!! -

IF all else fails you can always apply to waterloo this summer for the winter semester. Yes, waiting is horrid. I constantly slip between feeling hopeless to hopeful. -

Mack! Please do not be too down about being wait listed!! I am sure people WILL choose other schools and you will end up in the program. This means you were a strong applicant. The program only accepts 30 people, so wait list is still very impressive! -
