But how have none of us heard anything? I haven't gotten any kind of information via email, the website (which says that it will be updated when decisions are made), or regular mail.

GSE Berkeley

Does anyone know if PhD students in Berkeley's GSE are automatically fully funded? Some of the programs I applied to made it very clear that all PhD candidates are completely funded for a specific amount of years, but I'm having trouble finding that on Berkeley's website.

OH! Whew! That's good to know, that it wasn't GSE Berkeley, I mean. I feel like this application process has turned me into a neurotic mess! Congratulations on your waitlist status, btw! I can't believe I forgot to put that in my previous post!

Thanks! I'm starting to get really anxious waiting! This is the last decision that I'm waiting for. I've been rejected by the other three universities. Was it a bad plan to only put out four applications? Maybe. Honestly, though, pursuing a PhD involves packing up my life, leaving my career, and postponing a few pretty significant life goals, so I decided to only apply to places that I would drop everything for.

@juanmesh Can I ask if they called you or emailed you?

It looks like Berkeley sent out a ton of decisions today! None from the GSE, but the variety of departments that the notifications are coming from make me feel optimistic that we could hear back in the near future.

I think this is a great idea for a thread! I plan on emailing professos after I hear from the last school. I'm not really sure how to word that email, though! Everything I've come up with so far screams "why wasn't I good enough?!?!" and I feel like that may be a bit off putting. One thing that I've noticed from lurking is that many of us (those who are reapplying) didn't have much in the way of publications. I think that publishing could make our applications stronger. I keep telling myself that this experience builds character, but I still just want to crawl into a blanket fort and hide.

Not yet. It's making me crazy! I tried calling a couple times yesterday, but no one answered. I applied for the PhD in LLC.

I'm in the same boat I've been skipped for interviews by at least two schools, so almost all of my hopes are on this program.
-
I've heard that they sometimes admit students without interviews, but I don't personally know anyone who's been admitted like that.
-
Thank you so much for sharing this! I'm going crazy with all this waiting around!
-
I'm not 100% sure. I told the person I spoke with that I had applied to the SHIPS program, so it's possible that this information only applies to that. However, it sounded like it was for the whole GSE.

For other 2016 applicants, I called Stanford's GSE admissions office today. They said that there is no formal interview process and we should get our admissions decisions by mid-February. I can't decide if not having interviews makes me more or less nervous...on one hand, interviews are extremely stressful, but on the other there's no way of knowing where you stand until you get their final decision. Good luck everyone!
