  1. I'm a recent grad and just turned 22 a few months ago. I had an internship during undergrad, a couple of volunteer experiences, but tons of research projects and presentations. I'm a southern guy from Tennessee, so I definitely think these programs value a diverse cohort.
  2. I received my scholarship from NYU this morning. Very pleased. I have a decent GPA, an internship as social work experience (I'm 22), but lots of diversity to offer. They really look at all elements of the application. Best of luck to you all! And thank you @AMcCoy for your help yesterday!
  3. For the folks who are accepted as of now, how long did it take to receive your financial aid letter?
  4. Once you receive the letter I'd say sometime next week. I received this letter at the end of last week and got my acceptance today. Best of luck!
  5. This means your application is being reviewed. No need to stress. My application was complete on the 16th and I received my acceptance today. I think they're going in order of when they receive your application. I think you'll receive a letter sometime this week or next!
  6. I received my NYU acceptance letter today! Hopefully I'll receive $$ info soon.
  7. @emylauren2794 Hey! I definitely do think you have a chance of getting in. I think they look for many different qualities in applicants, so I would encourage you to apply. My only suggestion would be to get some volunteer experience in beforehand. I think it's important that they see you are contributing to the SW profession somehow, even if only a little. Also, make sure you write a strong personal statement. I'd recommend going to professors for guidance or even just to have a second pair of eyes. I think having a strong personal statement speaks volumes. I'd also have good references who can back up your coursework and your ability to do graduate level work. Good luck! Keep us posted.
  8. @LAT Portland is making me incredibly anxious. It sucks knowing they've made the decision yet you have to wait. I called the PSU grad school on Friday and checked on my application and they said they hadn't received the MSW decisions yet. The wait is killing me.
  9. @tudor3x8 Definitely not a bad idea. Most people have been receiving their package the day after they receive their acceptance. Good luck! I'd say it's automated. One person received theirs at 11 pm and someone else got theirs at 6 am. Strangest thing.
  10. @tudor3x8 Congrats on the acceptance! Hopefully they offer you a good financial aid package. Also, isn't it weird that NYU has been notifying people super late at night or very early in the morning? It's odd!
  11. @AMcCoy Congrats! I'm excited for you! I have a feeling I'll be hearing back soon. I applied on the 8th and my professor had to resubmit the evaluation on the 16th. So nervous.
  12. My last name begins with an "H" so I'm hoping this isn't the case! Haha. But congrats on getting accepted @nymsw!
  13. @AMcCoy congratulations! That's awesome! Super excited for you. Do you mind saying when you applied and if you got a financial aid package?
  14. The wait is painful. Luckily, I got accepted to Univ. of Michigan but NYU is my top choice and this wait pains me. I noticed a few people already got accepted. One got accepted one week after submitting and the other was accepted two weeks after submitting. Super fast notice, so here's hoping to sometime this week or next!
  15. That's a crazy fast acceptance. Awesome, though! I'm hoping to hear back from them soon.
  16. Be sure to post whenever you guys hear back. Any day now!
  17. @aramirez Also, did you receive your welcome from the dean in e-mail yet? I heard that once your app. is under review, you'll receive that e-mail.
  18. @aramirez Good luck to you! Truthfully, I don't think the GPA carries a heavy weight. I think they will look mostly at your statement of purpose, experience, and what your references said. I think experience and who you are / what you want out of this experience plays a big role in their decision. I submitted my app. to NYU on the 8th but it wasn't completed until the 16th because my evaluator's form didn't submit. I'm super anxious about it because this is my top / dream school, too. Someone who submitted on the 8th heard back a few days ago. They applied for the 2 year program. Here's hoping for an answer soon!
  19. My application was submitted January 8th and completed the 16th. I applied for advanced standing. Some who submitted the 8th have heard back. I'm very anxious about this one!
  20. I've read from two threads that Univ. of Chicago scholarships can be generous. The two people that posted had 2/3 of their tuition covered. I would apply for anything you're eligible for. I haven't heard anything regarding UIC yet. Good luck!
  21. Hey guys! I am also applying for MSW programs. I have applied to NYU, University of Michigan, Portland State University, and the University of Denver. I graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in December 2015 with my BSW and have applied for Advanced Standing to all of my programs. Undergraduate GPA was a 3.6; SW was a 3.95. Experience: I completed a 1 year internship with an LGBTQ advocacy organization known as Tennessee Equality Project (TEP). I created a TEP committee during the internship and organized monthly meetings, community events, and developed trainings for LGBTQ advocates that joined the committee. Aside from this, I have presented research at 10+ national conferences and compiled a data analysis for a local agency. I'm worried about getting into some of these schools because I'm a recent graduate and only 22. I haven't experienced a whole lot in the SW field yet. Rec. Letters: A PhD SW professor at MTSU that lived in NYC and advocated for social justice for 3 years, the Field Director at MTSU, Executive Director of TEP, a PhD History professor that sponsored my research for every conference I attended, and a PhD SW research professor. Concerns: Not enough direct SW experience. So far I have received an acceptance letter for the Univ. of Michigan (super excited!). I'm still waiting on the other three. I've seen some people receive their letters from NYU, so I'm getting anxious. Univ. of Denver won't send out until mid-late Feb, and PSU has made decisions and they will be e-mailed within the next 2-3 weeks. How's everything turning out for you guys? Best of luck!
  22. Hey! By any chance, have you heard back from PSU yet? I received an e-mail on Monday saying decisions have been made, that we should be receiving notifications over the next 2-3 weeks. I'm in a similar boat as you. I just graduated college with my BSW and only have an internship in the human services area. I've presented 10+ research projects at national conferences and led an organizing committee within my internship's agency. I'm extremely nervous about PSU. On a side note: I do think you have a chance. The experience weighs heavily, but you have valuable experience elsewhere and a strong academic background, as well as strong community-based skills. They do not accept a lot of students, but from what I've heard it all depends on the applicant pool and what each applicant has to offer. A PSU student informed me that the personal statement could get you in if you don't have tons of SW experience. Best of luck!
  23. I found out last week via e-mail that I had been accepted to the Advanced Standing MSW program! I'm super excited considering this was my "aim high" school. I'm still waiting to hear back from NYU, the University of Denver, and Portland State University. How's everyone doing? Any recent acceptance letters? Wishing you all the best! This process is stressful.
