  1. @ljo377 Yes! Most schools have to give you up until April 15 to make a decision. Here's what I read: http://cgsnet.org/april-15-resolution The University of Denver told me about it when I called a couple of weeks ago to check on my application status. NYU said I had to decide by March 18, Denver said otherwise and told me to look it up.
  2. @alyssak112 @tudor3x8 Hey guys, What you need to do is email silver.financialaid@nyu.edu and say that you would like to appeal for more scholarship money. They will reply to you with an appeal form and you'll fill that out and submit it. The appeal form they send you is a link, so it takes no more than 5-10 minutes.
  3. I don't think it affects your scholarships at all. I have extended nearly all of my accept/decline deadlines and that's all it is --- an extension. Most schools are required to extend your accept/decline deadline to April 15.
  4. @umichMSW I'm sorry to hear about your decision, but as the others mentioned, it may end up working in your favor. Keep your head up and do something fun / relaxing over the next couple of days.
  5. I'm not sure if this helps or not, but I have a friend who applied to the Nashville campus and she received her rejection letter last week. She applied in November, I think.
  6. Hey guys! I'm late to the party but wanted to ask a couple of questions. I was accepted to NYU but think, as of now, I'm leaning toward U of Michigan or U of Denver. I want to do macro / policy based social work and was introduced to Hunter recently. I didn't apply but I think I can still submit if they have any spots left to fill. I noticed they have a great macro track and are very affordable compared to NYU. My ultimate goal is to create and build an organization that focuses on LGBTQ needs, whatever those may be at the time. Would you all recommend applying to Hunter? My decision is *almost* made but I love the thought of living in NYC and wish I had looked at Hunter sooner.
  7. I was offered $12,000/yr but I sent an appeal form in a couple of days ago for more $$.
  8. @BSWtoMSW Hey there! I'm glad you decided to join the thread. I just want to let you know that it's very possible that you did get accepted. A few days ago, I was looking back at the Michigan threads from last year (regarding my GSSA interview) and noticed people were getting accepted in March and April that had applied in January and February. The ones who applied in January had basically given up, but sure enough they were accepted. Keep your head up. You also have a strong academic performance and they may be holding off a bit since you're graduating in a couple of months. Who knows what they're doing. I live in TN and my friends who applied in-state are just now hearing back and they applied in October and November.
  9. I'm still torn between my choices. DU offered the most $$, but they're my 3rd choice and I feel that out of the three schools I was accepted to, U of Michigan would be the best fit. I interviewed for a GSSA position today, so if I get that, I'll hands down commit. Without that, my financial aid package isn't enough for me to go there, sadly. NYU offered a decent package but between the tuition and cost of living in NYC, I'm not sure I can afford it. This is tough. I'm really hoping for the GSSA position because I love U of M, the program is fantastic, and this position would be a good fit.
  10. Haha just down the road from me! I was there last week for an anti-marriage resolution. But yeah, I'm thinking it'll be pretty basic and they'll just want to get to know me better. I just have that general anxiety. This position would be great and I really do want it.. I just hope I don't blow it! Haha
  11. So, guys.. I am in need of advice/tips. Have any of you done a graduate assistantship (GA/GSSA) interview yet? If so, can you give some advice? I have one tomorrow for the University of Michigan and have NO idea what to expect!
  12. I would ask NYU for an extension. They extended mine today until March 18. The e-mail is: silver.admissions@nyu.edu
  13. This may be weird to ask, but have any of you interviewed for a GSSA position with U of M yet? I interview tomorrow and have no idea what to expect. I've been prepping all evening and was hoping some of you may have tips! I'm also curious as to if they'll ask for an elevator pitch.
  14. 3.5 was my undergrad GPA. I just graduated in December and my only "real" experience was my internship. I'm 22. I really didn't expect to get accepted.
  15. I received my acceptance to the University of Denver today, too! I received a scholarship with it, but am hoping for more. As of currently, I'm set on U of Michigan.
  16. Have you heard anything yet?
  17. Has anyone heard from the University of Denver, by chance? I submitted on 1/13 and my application status is still "submitted". I saw that one person submitted 1/15 and heard back 2 weeks later and received a scholarship. I don't think I'll be going to Denver, but it would be nice to know so I can focus on NYU and U of Michigan. I called Denver on Monday and they said my application was at the tail end of the review process. But from what I've read on Denvee threads, your application status changes online from "submitted" to "complete" whenever they mail your decision out. I'm just freaking out and want answers! On a more positive note, I'm interviewing for a GSSA position this week. Here's hoping that seals the deal!
  18. For anyone who is waiting to hear back from Univ. of Michigan regarding the CBI program or graduate assistantships, I wanted to let you know that I was called to set up an interview for a GA position on Monday. I was e-mailed today saying I was not chosen for the CBI (community-based initiative) program. Maybe this timeline helps some of you who are wondering? I also got my financial aid last week from the SW department. This didn't include federal or anything else; just the SW scholarship. I applied on 12/1 and was accepted on 1/21. Best of luck, again!
  19. @umichMSW Thanks! As of right now, I'm leaning toward Univ. of Michigan. I received a phone call earlier this week to set up an interview for a GSSA position. If somehow I get the position, I will absolutely commit. I was really excited about NYU, but after looking into their program and Michigan's more, Michigan seems like the better fit. My interview is next Thursday, so I'm hoping I'll have a decision made by March 15!
  20. Congrats, @JessSW! I have a feeling you'll be hearing today or tomorrow @umichMSW!
  21. I'm tempted to give them a call today. They're the only school I'm waiting on. When did you submit your application? Mine was completely submitted on 1/13. I called last week and they said it usually takes 5-6 weeks, but I saw someone was accepted a couple of weeks ago and they applied around the same time as me.
  22. When did you apply and which program did you apply to? I would probably call.
  23. How's everyone doing in the decision process? Have any of you committed to Univ. of Michigan yet? I received my financial aid package from the SW department on Friday. Just want an update from you guys!
  24. @Mommy2boox2 It's totally okay. I knew it'd be a long shot without experience other than an internship. But I'm thinking the University of Michigan. I'd love to go to NYU but Mich. has the exact program I want (macro/community-based). I really like NYU's emphasis on research and policy, but as long as $$ is there, I think I'll end up in Michigan. I should know my entire financial aid package for Michigan by March 1, so I'll update then!
  25. @jwde2009 Hey! By any chance, have you heard anything from Denver yet? My application has said submitted for the past month, nothing has changed. I called last week and they said they were reviewing it and that I'd hear back by the end of the month. Once they get back to me, I can make a final decision. I've heard from a few people that they offer good financial aid packages, but I don't know. If there's one thing I've figured out about myself during this whole process, it's that I am extremely impatient.
