  1. I feel like this is kind of a vague response that might need a bit more context. Each school has different cut-offs to consider applicants, and different competitive GPA based on how strong their candidates are. I know that lots of Canadian programs end up accepting students with very high GPAs because even though their cutoff mark is low, the quality of their applicants are very high. I wouldn't say that GPA above a certain mark is negligible... but yes, similar to what was said, there are other factors that are seen as just as relevant if not more than GPA. (ie: reference letters, research experience). Bottom line is that this whole GPA business is school/program dependent and you should contact the schools for the most accurate information.
  2. There are some schools in Canada (specifically Ontario) that really wants to see applicants' abilities within research methodology courses. From my experiences, OISE (UofT) really stressed how important it is to do well in statistics and research methods during one's undergraduate studies in order to be competitive in some of their programs. This is especially true if you are interested in more research oriented PhD programs (ie: OISE for SCCP, McGill Clinical) in comparison to more clinically oriented PhD programs (ie: Concordia). However, there is always room to explain your situation (no matter what you consider to be a "good" reason or not) in writing or through communication. I also think that if you can show your level of work in other stats courses, you should be fine.
  3. One thing that I have experienced. If you are going through applications for Grad schools ever again, I would suggest emailing the profs very early on to inquire about whether they plan to accept students or not for the upcoming year. This year I emailed around September and made changes to my apps accordingly. This isnt seen as rude and can be very helpful
  4. If you would like to talk about the Canadian School application please let me know, I found that talking about the stresses associated with this process very helpful!
  5. Hi I was just notified about the York Clinical Open House. I believe invitations have been sent out by individual PIs. Just wanted to let others know as I have been seeing that there are others inquiring about what York has been upto.
  6. Hi, It's really great to know there are other individuals interested in children's mental health. I will message my POI information to you, and if you have any questions regarding what I have gone through, please feel free to ask more. I hope everyone's application process on this forum has been going okay.
  7. Hi I just wanted to share my experience with the application cycle this year. All information and opinions are strictly regarding to my experience, and I recognize that many people here may have had different experiences. Just wanted to share mine so that it may be helpful for anyone interested in the information. I applied to : Queen's: Clinical Dev York: Clinical Dev OISE: SCCP Concordia McGill I have received an official offer from Queens, and have interviewed with McGill. Different supervisors at Queen's notified me that they wanted to interview at different times (therefore for Queen's there doesn't seem to be a solid interview day). McGill also doesn't seem to have a specific date for interviews, but let it be up to the supervisor to organize their own. It isn't rude to reach out to the supervisors to let them know that you put them down as potential supervisors. They are all receptive and will let you know their timeframe. For OISE, the professor let me know that she will review around Feb-March, and for Concordia, they are also around that time. If you have questions, I can share my thoughts and opinions, but since this is my first year applying as well I can not say that my views are based on the full experience.
