Wow..... As an international student who applied to Yale Biostat PhD program this is making me really mad.. Why didn't they let the applicants know of this earlier? If they had not planned to recruit any international students, they should have made it very clear from the get go. I feel like the least they can do at this point is refund my money for the application.

I applied for several Biostat PhD program for 2021 and have gotten interviews from a couple of programs. I was wondering what those programs aim to know about the candidate from this short 15 minute interviews. Is it to see if candidates are actually willing to enroll? Is it to check other credentials from international students? How can I better prepare for such interviews?

Anyone familiar with UC Santa Cruz's Statistics PhD Program? The vicinity to the silicon valley seems very appealing but I'm a little bit concerned about the department leaning heavily towards Bayesian. Is UCSC phd program a promising one?

I'm an international student with Biostatistics MS from the US who applied for a dozen PhD programs for Biostatistics. How do you expect the 2021 admission and funding situation to be like? Is it going to be much tougher to get funding now that a lot of people are going back to school with limited funding affected by COVID? Or do you expect otherwise?

Hi everyone, I'm an international applicant for Biostatistics PhD program. I hold MS from a pretty decent American institution in Biostatistics, and I'm planning to apply this year for 2021 fall admission. I have decent GPA (with good selection of math classes) and good GRE scores. The only thing that concerns me is that I seem to have limited research experience compared to some of the applicants here. I did work as a Student Researcher for a year in an imaging lab, but unfortunately the project I was working on did not lead to any concrete presentation or paper. I'm currently working on a paper (first author) with a faculty member from my Master's which is basically the extension on my graduation project for my MS. We're aiming to submit the paper by late October/November, but then again this wouldn't be a thing I can put on my CV by Dec deadline as the paper is unlikely to be accepted by then. Do you have any suggestions as to how to write SOP or CV for applicants with limited research experience like me? Should I mention those two research experiences regardless of the fact that it did not lead to anything tangible yet? Also, do some people put papers that are yet to be accepted, but submitted on their CV, or SOP? Any suggestions/advice would be very much welcomed.

Oh my god! You have a very similar decision problem as I do.. except it is between Columbia MS and Minnesota MS for me. I'm also leaning towards Columbia and have my concerns regarding the same things--Columbia not having an internal streamline for phd while UMN does, its notorious MS stat program, etc... Are you going to the admitted students' visit day for Columbia? I can't and it's a shame bc Columbia has such limited info on their website. I don't even know their student body size and all the relevant info to make my decision. Just gonna have to ask them via email...
