  1. Thank you everyone for the advice regarding loans. It's a difficult decision. SAIC Low-Res was my top choice because I could maintain my full-time museum job during the regular school year and I feel unbelievably lucky to have got as much aid as I was offered. So while I make around 40k a year, plus whatever I can get through art - I'm terrified of loans. I have no debt currently and the freedom that has allowed me cannot be understated. I am beginning to think I may pursue residencies and low-cost opportunities and reapply in the future, although I realize this is probably the best offer possible for me from SAIC. Adulting is hard.
  2. SAIC with half tuition and 15k grant - so around 60k in debt all told - worth it? Having a hard time swallowing that price tag.
  3. I received a big blue envelope... telling me to submit another document. I'm glad to hear someone else is still waiting, I was beginning to sweat it thinking I didn't get anything.
  4. She just told me information would be in the packet with the official letter. I kind of assumed that if I had received a scholarship they would have mentioned it during the phone call - could be wrong though. I will let you know what's in my letter once I get it. Here's to hoping we both got something great!
  5. I hope you hear something soon! I was told today decisions were made a few days ago. Hope you get good news too!
  6. @k-khalid Thank you so much! Hope you get some news soon too! Sending good vibes your way.
  7. Just got the call - Accepted SAIC low-res!!! Sooo excited! Packet with letter and financials in the mail. She said decisions were made a few days ago.
  8. Nothing on my end from SAIC. Starting to get antsy... Hopefully we will hear something soon, especially with two other departments trotting out interviews.
  9. Woo, that's a relief. Don't be so hard on yourself - no one has heard anything from them, so you're still on equal footing with us all! Good luck!
  10. In other news - I see my MIT application has been "reviewed by staff and sent to admissions committee for consideration" - so that's terrifying.
  11. @k-khalid When did you get the interview call? I haven't heard anything from them, which really bums me out since I thought I had a solid chance after talking with Lee and her being so enthusiastic about my work and even giving me a waiver. Oh well safety school. And congrats on the first interview of the forum!
  12. Obviously every school probably handles LoR differently, but I know I am short one for MIT (I've contacted her several times, but had 2 out of 3 received at time of submission) and they went ahead and reviewed my application with only the two letters. Now if this affects my chance at admission is another thing, but it did not keep them from reviewing my application. Perhaps the same can be said for Bard and Yale?
  13. Submitted SAIC Photo this morning. I didn't realize they would give you until the end of the week to complete unfinished applications (in case anyone else is torn about applying to multiple programs).
  14. I see SAIC is giving a grace period on Slideroom applications, makes it oh so tempting to apply to another program.
  15. @Poodle-Doodle Agreed! Just had a mini heart attack getting an email from CalArts... that reminded me to apply for financial aid. Oh the torture!
  16. Finally have all my applications done. Now for the awful months of waiting... Anyone else apply to CalArts after the deadline? I'm torn between thinking it hurts my chances or realizing they probably have a soft deadline for a reason.
  17. SAIC's portfolio day here in Austin was dead. I saw 4 other applicants and the person ahead of me on the schedule didn't even show. Totally worth it though - got a waiver for my application fee today!
  18. Started applications officially today and am already freaking out since the first deadline is a month away! Where did time go? How are you selecting your recommendation letter writers? I've been out of school a few years and find this a perplexing decision. I know residency staff are an obvious choice, what would you think about peers? Particularly those that attended the school to which you are applying?
  19. I'm attending SAIC's portfolio event here in Austin next weekend - I'm pretty curious to see what the turnout will be after reading this. Speaking of, have any of you ever attended one of SAIC's portfolio events? Any advice? I planned to bring my laptop to show them work and have a list of questions ready to go (although most have already been answered by attending one of their seminars)
  20. Glad to see someone got the forum going! I lurked last year in anticipation and am excited to start the process myself. Anyone else looking at MIT? I had a one-on-one visit in March that was a lot of fun (nerd alert). Other options I'm considering: Cal (dying to work with Charles Gaines, my hero), SAIC Low-Res, Texas, USCD, and Yale. If anyone has any good theoretical interdisciplinary programs I'm overlooking, please let me know.
  21. Rejection here as well, same email. Looks like it's Anderson Ranch for me this summer.
  22. I'm waiting on Anderson Ranch to release decisions on the Tom Sachs workshop, 23 Days at Sea, and the Sharpe-Walentas studio program.
