  1. I'm an international student attending a US college and have a plan for applying Ph.D. But the thing that I transferred once make it a little bit complicated.I'm junior now and finished fresh and sopho in China, do I need to submit the original transcript for the former 2 years? The courses do appear on my current university's transcript but tagged with transferred and the grades appear to be "TR" (transferred).
  2. My GPA is not a stellar and the general education courses continue to drag it down ( I transfer from another country to US so I don't have general education courses and need to take them during junior and senior, and I already got a bunch of Bs in these courses...) And another question is if the former university's transcript plays a big role in the admission? I got like 6 Cs in some courses, p.chem 1&2, general physics lab 1&2, orgo 2 and one fitness course( okay, I have no problems in health and did pretty well in sports... just don't know why). If I got such bad grades in a US institution I think I should give up the thought of applying to graduate school, but someone told me if I transfer they really don't care about the former one.
  3. Sorry, actually I mean "Will the committee only look at the Major GPA? " for the title.
  4. Most of the people will talk about major GPA in this forum but I find most of universities won't print major GPA on the transcript. So how you guys calculated that? Simply eliminated the courses not on the degree requirement or only calculated the courses opened by this major's department? And will committees really look at it when apply for phd? Since major GPA is calculated by ourselves and doesn't appear on transcript.
  5. Yeah, I think I'll choose just some of the top programs which I'm interesting at most but definitely impossible to all of them. Yeah, research experience is a big problem, so I'm considering deferring graduation one semester. Which gives me extra one summer and one semester. And actually I choose the biochemistry pathway under the Chemistry program so the upper-level courses are all biochem related. And I do have a plan to take some intro grad level course in med school since they're open to undergrads, if the grad courses on curriculum will help a little bit? As to LOR, I'm not sure how to get LORs from other PIs, since if I choose to stay in my current lab and which I think is a better choice since I've involved a lot and interested in their field. So normally people get more LORs from summer research at other institutions or ?
  6. Undergrad Institution: Public University USNEWS top30, have some reputation in Biology I think Major(s): Double major in Chemistry & Computer Science Minor(s): Biology(Maybe, I not sure if I have enough time to finish) GPA in Major: 3.6 Chem and 3.8 in CS Overall GPA: 3.6 Position in Class: Totally not sure... Research Experience: A technical university in Beijing, Organic Synthesis, 1yr, no publication. My current school, Biosynthesis, 1 semester and this summer, no pub yet. I'm considering about deferring my application to 18 Fall because I don't have any pub yet which seems to be a weakness. Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Dean's List and somethings not that important Pertinent Activities or Jobs: Any Miscellaneous Accomplishments that Might Help: Some entrepreneurship activities in Enactus and took part in some business competition during the fresh and sop years. Special Bonus Points: Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: The PI of my current lab is willing to write a strong LOR for me and I'm not sure about the other 2.
