Don't have any yet either

Thanks! I'm not sure if this helps, but I was told a few days ago that I was "somewhere around 10th" on the waitlist at Syracuse. Good luck and hope it works out for you!

Accepted FSU's offer and removing myself from the waitlist at Syracuse and Loyola-Chicago. Rejected from Notre Dame's waitlist.
-
Thanks! Hopefully I'll be able to soon.
-
That's great! Maybe I should do the same..

Congrats on coming to a decision! Did you call UNC?

Unfortunately (for my mental health), I'm still waiting on two more places
-
Rejected from IU's waitlist. Just received an email from them that they are unable to admit me.

I know how you feel. I'm mostly worried that I will not be provided with any sort of meaningful update by the time I've been asked to respond to my current preferred offer.
-
For what program, if you don't mind me asking (Texas?)?
-
Yes, I'm talking about ND. From what they've told me, it seems like there's a very good chance they will. Good luck!

I was told that there is a "very high chance" that those who are waitlisted will, eventually, be admitted. In recent years, they have typically exhausted nearly their entire waitlist, even needing to admit initially rejected applicants on occasion.

You're completely right. Thanks and I hope things work out for you too!

Well yes, I only applied to schools that I would be want to attend, but since I was unsure of my application's strength/quality, or lack thereof, and am supposedly the first person to be accepted to a philosophy Ph.D. program from my 'no-name' undergrad, I didn't know if it would even be worth applying this year. After learning about this forum in early February, I thought that I would be rejected everywhere, and to be sure, I'm genuinely excited and grateful for my one acceptance. I think that after getting an acceptance and a few waitlists, my expectations became rather inflated. I only contemplated reapplying because of the surprising amount of consideration my application has *apparently* received at some places. Regardless, I don't think I'll actually end up reapplying either way.

I meant could I go to FSU and then reapply after a year or two and would that be an acceptable thing to do? Or would it be better to do the MAPH?

For the most part, it looks like I've heard back from all of the programs I applied to, and given these (expected but still disappointing) results, I'm unsure what I'll do. I've been told it's 'rather likely' I'll receive an offer from Notre Dame and was "just outside the initial admit group" at Davis, and I'm particularly hopeful about ND. Barring some miracle from UCLA and if I'm not admitted off ND's waitlist, I would seriously consider reapplying because I was almost laughably unprepared for the application process in the Fall. For a variety of reasons (really just me being oblivious), I didn't prepare the way I should have and wrote my writing sample the week before my first application was due, took the GRE on four hours of sleep, and did not get to refine the other components of my application. Now that I know how this process works and what I should have done, I'm inclined to try again and make my application as strong as possible. I've also been told by a few places, one being Johns Hopkins, that they had an unusually high number of applicants with an interest in Kant this year–one of my interests is in Kant's theoretical philosophy. So I'm wondering whether (i) is waiting and reapplying next year a bad idea? (ii) if not, what should I do? (iii) how is the MAPH at Chicago?

In a similar position and wondering the same thing. I did a quick search and couldn't really tell if the MAPH at U-Chicago provided an advantage to people pursuing specifically a PhD in Philosophy.

So I recently just became aware of this site a few weeks ago (I go to a small, fairly undistinguished private school and recently learned that I'm the first person to ever be accepted into a Ph.D. program in Philosophy from here, so I guess I'm a tad out of the loop). I'm currently on five waitlists and have one acceptance. I have been keeping an eye on the results page, and from what I've seen, it looks like rejections vary quite a bit. On 2/29 UCLA emailed me saying that they had sent initial offers, and while it is unlikely I'll receive an offer, it's "still possible." I think I saw a few other people post that they had received the same email as well. It doesn't mention anything about a waitlist, so it sounds like I'm on a "waitlist" for the actual waitlist. Does anyone know what this means? Seems more or less like a rejection to me.
