They don't know, because you only send the set of scores that you specifically choose to CSDCAS.  Just make sure NOT to select the sending scores option to the schools each time you actually sit down and take the GRE.  If you do that, they will know.

There's definitely one happening in a few weeks because I follow Karen MacIver-Lux on Facebook and she's been promoting it. Conferences often have a reduced registration fee for students and they're not always advertised. I always contact the sponsor to find out if there are any student discounts. The one drawback is that sometimes the student rate will not qualify for credits towards AG Bell LSL certification the way the full price registration does.

I'm interested in auditory-verbal therapy for the deaf & hard-of-hearing and that is something that can be done with either an Aud.D., M.S.-SLP, or M.Ed. I joined ASHA SIG 9 (Hearing Disorders in Children) and asked on their forum. I got a ton of great responses from professionals working in a variety of fields.
Audiology is a 4 year program (occasionally 3) vs. 2 years for SLP or Deaf Ed. I'll be in my 40's before I start grad school so the sooner I can start earning an income and the less debt I have when I graduate the better. There are scholarships available for SLP and Deaf Ed students interested in auditory-verbal therapy but if there are similar ones for AudD. students, I haven't come across them.
Purchasing the sound-treated booth and the equipment required for audiology testing to have my own practice can easily run $60k. There are start-up costs for a SLP practice as well (all those assessments aren't cheap), but not remotely in the same ballpark.
SLP's often have the easiest time billing insurance companies for AVT.
SLP is the most flexible degree if I decide that I want to shift gears and work with a different client population. If I get burned out doing AVT at some point, I could easily retrain by just doing a few CEU's.
I took the observation class early in my 2nd bachelor's sequence and spent a lot of time observing both audiologists and SLP's who work with the deaf. I found that a *LOT* of what audiologists do on a daily basis is pretty dull.

I don't think so! I consider myself more introverted, but outgoing if I'm in the right setting. I just prefer having a lot of me time too. I'd say my cohort is a mix of the two.
As for your original question, the one thing that turned me off from audiology was shadowing someone who spent most of her time fixing hearing aids. Didn't look that enjoyable. But if you do enjoy audiology you will get to do hearing screenings occasionally so you still get a little audiology exposure.

You should go check out the Student Doctor forum on audiology. I had to do an observation with an audiologist for one of my classes and I became curious about audiology, but that forum turned me off immediately. SLP is so flexible and vast and in-demand. You can work with a million different populations in just about any setting you want. Also 100% employment rates aren't bad either!

Hey everybody! When I got a call from Western this morning, I asked the person calling a bunch of questions: (a professor who I am sorry to say I cant even remember the name of, I was so shocked to get the call):
Here is what she said about the focus of Western versus Toronto: Western has always had a reputation of being strong in child-language while Toronto, speech and motor. Western has 3 profs right now doing child language and autism research alone. She also said though that they have great profs and classes in the all the other field areas.
In terms of how they pick applicants: They take GPA very seriously, especially prereqs. She said that most applicants are arts students and are strong in their ling and psych, but they also want to see good grades in the sciences (human phys and anatomy) because medical SLP is tough. They look very closely at the clincal references and she even mentioned a few details from mine = shows that every question they ask your references they actually care about. They also care about the academic references because she said that they dont want students that only have high grades, but also those that profs can speak to about their strong overall character and people skills. Lastly, they look at your letter of intent to see if you have strong writing skills, which they want, and if you seem to have a sense of what you are getting yourself into haha, her words. They dont want students to be accepted and then really struggle she basically said.
So ya! I know all of you know the admission requirements, which I pretty much just listed here, but I thought her details on them were helpful and will help someone else out!

Pretty sure they sent it out to everyone because I got it too (and I already set mine up).

Has anyone else received an email reminder today from Western to set up their student identity in order to receive notice of their decision on Friday? I thought I already set mine up, so I'm wondering if I either missed a step or if maybe they sent out a blanket reminder to everyone?

Same here. I don't want to get my hopes up in case it's bad news! This is my second attempt and I am already starting to find this process very frustrating, but will keep trying if that's what it takes.

Is anyone else going absolutely crazy waiting for April 1st? I thought I'd be able to play it cool in all the time leading up to the decisions, but this week has been excruciatingly slow. I really just want to know what I'll be doing in September so I can start planning my life! I'm so distracted at work every day

There's another thread called "Accelerated Audiology" that has some more insight on their program. I was also offered a 90% tuition remission (out of state) plus an ASL assistantship worth $11,000. It was hard to turn down, but I did it because of the reasons you stated. For me personally, I don't think I would be confident enough in my skills after just 2 years, to start a full time externship. Yeah, I'm a little older and loved the idea of being done at 31 instead of 32, but I think the extra year spent working with preceptors, mentors, with supervision and guidance will make me a better practitioner. I've historically struggled with self-confidence in work settings so this is very much just a personal preference.
Also, I want to be a pediatric audiologist, and the opportunities at IU just didn't seem as strong as other programs I was accepted to.
The "Accelerated Audiology" thread has comments from a current student; I would DM him/her for more insight! Good luck in your decision!

I'm a CDA and I definitely think it was helpful. Maybe not for schools in Canada, but for schools in the states and for gaining experience in the field, it was definitely helpful.
As for the CDA programs not having a course syllabus or set curriculum - that's not true at all. In order for students to graduate with a Communicative Disorders Assistant title and to be eligible for membership with CDAAC (Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada) the program needs to go through a program advisory committee where employees work with executive members of CDAAC going over required courses, the number of hours spent in each course, the number of direct and indirect hours with clients during the two 8-week practicums, etc. in order for it to be approved by CDAAC. I believe the program is assessed every 1-2 years during the first couple years of the program is running, and then every 5 years or so thereafter. It was a great program, I went to Lambton and absolutely loved it. I learned a lot and have heard that some schools along the border set aside a few unofficial spots for Canadian CDAs within their program. Whether or not that is true, I am not sure. A girl can only hope!

I don't know too much about the different CDA programs in Ontario other than Georgian. I have heard some negative stories about St Lawrence and their program (not enough insurance for students so they could not complete certain placements), and more positive stories about Durham's program, but I don't know that much about the reputation of each program. Sorry that I couldn't be of more assistance!
