  1. People confusing these two has always been a pet peeve of mine and it's not even my focus.
  2. I just accepted my offer after checking out Purdue, and the town, and meeting my advisor! I'm so happy right now.
  3. That's AWFUL.
  4. I'm watching this thread with interest now too, and not just because I love buying school supplies... For filing cabinets, they look like they can be pretty pricey but craigslist typically has a lot of people selling them cheap or giving them away for free.

    TATTOOS

I've got six. Two on my hip which are never visible, one on my shoulder blade (rarely visible) one on my shoulder/upper arm (sometimes visible) and one on each wrist (always visible.) I've been lucky in life so far. They've never once been an issue. Among the anthro students at my school, I am probably one of the more "normal" looking ones so I'm not too concerned!
  6. If you go for the Kindle, go for the DX. That sounds best suited to your needs. I'm partial to the kindle personally but E-book readers do have their benefits! My biggest problem is that you can't look at two books you have on there simultaneously, which is something I do with my actual books pretty often.
  7. Anyone know when Purdue's Spring Break is? I'd love to take a visit and talk to my potential advisor and look for places to live.
  8. http://www.creighton.edu/groups/csas/annualmeeting/index.php Is anyone going? It's held in Madison next month!
  9. this is interesting! kind of sad for people still waiting.
  10. Agreed. If I recall correctly, it makes computers sound like this new and awesome idea?
  11. I won't be getting into any PhD programs this year so assuming my Master's takes two years...I'll be 23 when I start my PhD. I graduated high school a semester early and am finishing undergrad with two bachelor's degrees in seven semesters, so I'm ahead by a year.
  12. I just got rejected. Biological Anthropology here.
  13. What's worse than the irrelevant emails is when your school email account is down. "HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable." Thanks school! I have emails to obsess over.
  14. "So what are you going to graduate school for?" "Primatology" "What's that?" "The study of primates" "What's a primate?" OR "I don't believe we evolved from monkeys! Tell me they don't teach you that!" Yes. Yes, my professors discuss how humans evolved from monkeys *facepalm* Reminds me of my archaeology prof. Her daughter drew on the back of some of our homework assignments and our prof pointed out that she drew dinosaurs on everything. She said it was sad that her own daughter thinks archaeologists dig up dinosaur bones.
  15. I had a pretty awful GRE score. 33 percentile in quantitative, but a 98 percentile in verbal. I only mentioned it, in statements when weaknesses were asked for, by saying "Due to my lower quantitative score, I enrolled in a graduate level course in Quantitative Methods in Anthropology for the Spring 2010 semester." I feel like weaknesses are okay as long as you can address them/show that they won't be awful for you, which it sounds like you are able to do by describing your experience!
  16. Aw no need to do that! Your sig shows that you still have options! One year isn't that long. I don't usually sound like such a brat by the way. Promise!
  17. I am so happy that I got in to Purdue! I used to hope that I would only get into one place so I wouldn't have to make a tough decision. Now that it looks like that's what's happening, I feel like I want to at least have an option. I only applied to places I would be happy attending but a PhD program would have been nice.
  18. I think I would withdraw in that situation, just to potentially save the committees some work and let other people hear back quicker!
  19. Hi there! I heard back from UGA last...Monday I think. They contacted me by post in an envelope that was pretty beat up. That stinks that you have to wait more! Waiting's the worst.
  20. Being rejected from Boulder wasn't so bad because it wasn't a very good fit for me but after opening the envelope and reading it and immediately getting a text telling me I had an email from Duke...at least I was already negative so I didn't have that surge of hope! But wow it hit hard. Now spending my day stalking the forums here.
  21. At least they didn't keep us waiting too horribly long, right?
  22. March did not start off by being nice to me! I got two rejections within a three minute period. One in the mail and then one through email. I'm kind of a mess right now.
  23. Update: I got a huge packet full of information about the program and Purdue and just about everything else, but no word yet on funding. However, while Purdue wasn't one of my top choices (out of the nine places I applied for), I'm starting to get pretty excited about the idea of attending!
  24. Duke Evo Anthro applicant here. Just got my email to check website about three minutes ago. Rejected. I sort of figured, since so many people seem to want to work with Dr. Hare. I just thought I might have a shot because we have similar interests, and I majored in anthropology and psychology and so on. Oh well. Also rejected from Boulder, in the mail, about five minutes ago.
  25. I found out how to have my university account text me my emails, but it only texts the first two lines or so. I've been bringing my netbook everywhere in my purse just in case.
